Hearts, Thistle, deny fans disclosure

309

It must cause some cognitive dissonance for Hearts and Partick Thistle to use the excuse that as the Court of Session refused to hear their claim against the SPFL, they are not prepared to allow the subsequent arbitration panel’s judgement to be published.

In a joint statement, the clubs wrote: “Hearts and Partick Thistle always wanted this matter to be heard in open court in the interest of total transparency.  If the SPFL had not sought to have that court action sisted for arbitration then all hearings would have taken place in the public domain, including any necessary examination of witnesses, consideration of documentary evidence and full legal submissions.

“We do not believe sharing the judgement on its own would be appropriate.”

We are deep in Trump-populist territory here.  The SPFL insisted the rules were followed and the Court of Session agreed, neither the League nor the Court had any choice in the matter.

The clubs’ statement goes on: “The SPFL went so far as to tell the member clubs that if they even wanted sight of their Answers to the Court of Session petition, they needed to enter the court proceedings.”  They did not add that the SPFL were legally obliged to restrict distribution of Court submissions to petitioners.

The arbitration panel’s judgement is the only document produced; this is the only item that can be disclosed. All parties need to agree to disclosure, the SPFL, Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers all gave permission, while Hearts and Thistle – the losers, declined.

The rules state that is the end of the matter, no one from the winning side has any complaints about disclosure rules being enforced by the losers.  So why are Fran and Anna still digging themselves into a deeper hole?  “In the interests of total transparency”, they wanted the SPFL and Court of Session to conspire to break League rules and as that did not happen, they want zero transparency.

Is it any wonder Hearts finished well below Hamilton and Ross County, while Partick finished 10 points adrift of Arbroath with these two in charge?  A period of self-reflection might reveal these two were significantly culpable in their clubs demise, and are wholly responsible for whatever punishment is handed out for breaking the rules by going to the Court of Session.

‘They’ have brought players to stop 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and this current batch will be no different than their predecessors.Their will to stop TEN will be matched by our enthusiasm and zeal to get TEN.

  2. The Scottish Premiership will be won again by a team that is attacking and expansive.

It is all very well producing structured organised dispay’s away from home in Europe and also in elite domestic matches.

But the majority of the season for the big two in Scotland is about breaking down stubborn defences be it home ore away.

If Celtic are showing the odd defensive flaw because of their attacking style I will not be too concerned.

It is long winding struggles to beak down defensive domestic teams and only getting there by the odd goal that concerns me.

It appears to me that as an attacking ,expansive force with goals from everywhere in the team Neil Lennon knows exactly the correct recipe to 10 in a row.

For all the undoubted improvement accross the city they remain at their best sitting deep and being defensively organised .A tactic that will serve them well away from home in Europe but may get them into plenty of trouble domestically when to be champions you really need to blow the opposition away

Good to see Celtic still giving you such joy and Rangers putting the fear into you.

In my world Rangers have not signed a single player who would get into our team.

Rangers Just signed a guy who Kamberi (a guy they tried to keep) is replacing. Let’s get real here.

Roofe is a risk almost in the Prodan / Comper mould. Morelos is leaving and Defoe is not the leader of any line.

They are buying what is available for minimal outlay. We are continuing with our strategic purchasing plans which have served us well for 15 years excluding the ‘cheating period’ at ibrox.

Never good to be complacent in any walk of life but I can still remember my mum when they signed Colin Stein for £100,000 in 1969 telling (8 year old) me not to believe the Daily Express Who said it would mean the end of Celtic’s dominance as we were selling ex lions etc. .

Folk like you who only see bad in Celtic and good in what Rangers do have been around a long time. Winning 31 leagues vs the Huns 22 in my lifetime and a recent 9 in a row against the established order suggests We are getting more right than wrong.

Maybe you prefer to believe Craig Levein knows better than Peter Lawwell how to run a sustainably successful football club. It’s your option I guess.

  6. First of all I agree with JimTim. I thoroughly dislike terms such as panty wetters & nappy fillers,

There is no need to disrespect your fellow Celtic Supporter even if you believe they are over reacting.

So far, the Huns have brought in Balogun, who had a decent first game, Bassey who I don’t have a clue about,

Roofe & Itten. Most fair minded pundits would agree that at this point they are likely to have strengthened their team,

So far we have brought in Barkas but it is to replace Forster, we will do well if Barkas is a marked improvement on FF.

If this was the end of the window, I would definitely be concerned, but it’s nowhere near that.

It looks odds on that they will have to sell Morelos & maybe another couple as well, Defoe & Davis who were reasonable players for them will probably be bit players next year at best,

Klimala & Soro, were non runners for us last year but are now looking like guys that can contribute, Elhamed missed a lot of last year with injury, If we can keep him fit this year that would be the equivalent of a great signing.

Also we have some very strong Academy talent, that could fill in on selected matches to give our A team players a break.

Finally we are not done in the transfer market yet, I have absolutely no doubt that we are going to bring in a few but Like them, there is also a possibility that we might sell one of our stalworths,

AS long as it’s not Eddie we will be OK.

  7. We need a left sided centreback and an upgrade at leftback in my opinion.

We will not get a better right or left winger than we have already. Purchasing 1 of decent quality/ potential may however add a little depth which may be needed.

We will struggle to get better forward than the ones we have right now.

There is an arguement we could do with a fighter in the middle of the pitch in certain games. However, trying to play 2 against 3 never works againt equals and rarely works against lesser teams.

I would move on boli, ntcham ( to good for bench), rogic (never fit), shved and bayo to open up space and I would loan out fringe/ kids that are not ready to step in

..aye right ye are , the font of all football knowledge , change two letters of font and you’ll be closer to what that man is …

  9. Barry Fry shouting his mouth off about Celtic dithering over Toney this morning. He obviously doesn’t know Peter. Reading between the lines the lad is keen to come up and they will sell but i suspect that the valuations are probably too for apart for a deal to be done.

    Keane (Robbie)

All signings that were expected to hit the ground running. Mowbray was sacked a few weeks later. Only Ki could be considered a success. Keane was a short term loan.

Nothing is guaranteed when signing players.

    We will know in May.

why would we want the jam tarts player , he is not as good as our current left back

    ____

We wanted him before when he was our player. We didn’t release him.

He was promised first team football at Hearts and he got it. Aaron Hickey has just turned 18 years old and has plenty of opportunities to improve.

I don’t understand the negativity around the guy. The fact that he’s played a full season in the SPFL at age 17 shows he is ahead of most of his peers. There’s a reason why Bayern Munich are chasing his signature.

I’d love to sign him. He will probably go to Germany and play for Bayern Munich 2 in the German 3rd tier.

    Craig Levein is it?

Its a dark day when a Celtic fan quotes anything as relevant in connection with what he says about

Celtic, he can’t even get his story right.

Nobody on Gorgi Rd cares what he says let alone, in world wide Timdom.

Celtic supporters that react to Daily Dafty Rainjurz ‘transfers fees’ are tailor made for the internet and football Blogs , they are signing what is available within their budget which only gets you ‘a certain type of player’ and ‘undisclosed fee’ is manna from heaven for SMSM, and the new club.

The transfer window is newly opened but in your great wee black and white world where Celtic are always culpable, what dithering occurred in the 12 league titles won under Peter Lawwell some of which happened whilst another club were proved to be cheating?

If only we were a properly run football club. just think what we could have acheived.

    Very good post. Enjoyed immensely.

Despite our structural advantages and vastly superior performance in recent seasons complacency should and, I believe, will be avoided.

    As for the squad …

Forster, Hayes and Simunovic all made sizeable contributions to the first team last year.

    Forster replaced adequately.

Think a reasonable case can be made for Elhamed (if fit) filling the Jozo gap?

Our best football last season coincided with Odsonne and Leigh playing up front.

If Leigh gets fit, Klimala improves, Edouard stays, Bayo leaves and a good striker is signed … our forward line will be awesome.

That just leaves left back ….. ?

  17. Interesting reading the contrasting reports about the James McCarthy to Celtic story doing the rounds at the moment. The British press suggest Crystal Palace paid 8 million for McCarthy making 35 appearances for the club last season meanwhile the Irish press last evening claim Palace paid 3 million making 16 appearances – quite some difference here.

I thought McCarthy was playing his best football for club and country before he suffered that bad injury which kept him out of the game for a considerable time. The 28 year old could be a good signing for the club.

  18. Bournesoup

I think it is 13 leagues out of 17 won since Lawwell became CEO not 12. Despite the cheating.

That aside I agree 100% with your post.

Some folk can only see the bad in what Celtic do.

My old dad always said that alongside the much vaunted ‘escapism’ from the working week which shared success gave supporters Celtic were also something that some fans just like to kick and moan about to cover for other failings in their real lives.

  19. How does McCarthy solve the Brown conundrum?

It clearly makes the point to Soro he’s not up to it either.

I think it’s a made up MSM story. Half-expecting a “McGeady to solve Celtic’s winger problem” story soon…..or Chaz Mulgrew to plug the CH position…

Stop trying to punt Ntcham ffs !

He is to good for our bench and his own development is being damaged as a result. I recall christie, McGregor and ntcham in out team playing some lovely football when brown was injuries, as soon as brown returned he dropped out. Dont see why he would stick about, he needs 4 or 5 games in a row to get up to his top level and it simply never happens. best for him and it would free up some funds to improve other areas of the team I.e left centreback, leftback which are much more urgent issues imo!

  22. Agree with the poster who said they’re signing muscle rather than skill; to try bully us in the heads-to-head.

As far as LBs go, Andrew Gutman would be more reliable now than the Hickey lad might be in the future.

Is it simply that Gutman has no US national cap, which affects his ability to get a permit to play with us?

Hickey is 18 and you have decided that he is not good enough.

From what I have seen of the boy , he looks an excellent prospect.

Could play on the left hand side of a back 3

  25. Stephbhoy67,

“Please leave we are holding you back” isn’t a proposition I’d be comfortable with from the club. I’ve made my point on Brown less, Ntcham more but I’d also want Ryan to up his game and would comfortably see Ollie in that place threading balls through to Eddie and Toney…:)

We can never have enough good players and Ollie is absolutely class.

    ___________

Personally, I think the story is rubbish as well. It originates from 90min.com so hardly a reliable source. He’s on EPL wages for the next two years of his contract at Palace and the same report credits 4 EPL teams with an interest. If McCarthy was offered a 3-year contract at an EPL club he’d take it I’m sure.

That said, the comparisons with Mulgrew and McGeady are unfair.

He’s been operating at a higher level than the other two for years. Personally, I’d be delighted if he was Brown’s replacement. Celtic wouldn’t want McGeady or Mulgrew but they’d want McCarthy. I suppose that’s why it’s had more traction.

    Don’t see it happening though.

  27. weebobbycollins on

I agree about Ntcham. Huns would love it if he went, along with Edouard, Frimpong, Forrest, Christie, Broonie, Rogic, Griffiths, McGregor…………

Not only were Klimala and Soro non-runners for us last year, they weren’t even here. We only brought them in in January. 😄

Effectively, we have three new signings already, Barkas, Soro and Paddy. I know Paddy featured a couple of times but in his new persona, bulked up and menacing look, he’s effectively a new player.

I’m afraid you final comment sums up what is wrong , football is no longer seen as a sport for the masses but for self centred uncaring business men.. pretty disappointed in you comment tbh as I expedited more from an educated man..

Looking down our noses at those less fortunate than ourselves is not the Celtic way .

  30. Heard news earlier that Liverpool are preparing to pay £10m for Norwich left back Jamal Lewis.

£10m for a back up to Andy Robertson!

Although the numbers may be scary, it shows the correct approach. The balance of the team is impacted by taking out either of the wing backs at Liverpool.

Posters stating that Aaron Hickey or James McCarthy are no better than what we already have are missing the point.

We need to have cover in key positions ,either by having competent back-up, or by being able to shuffle the deck.

Apart from normal injuriesvCovid-19 is likely to have some impact on this season , we may have players having to quarantine.

Therefore we need as big a squad as we can afford.

I did tell us all last week that Toney wanted to come to Celtic.Told Peterboro from day one.The thing is,if it would take 6 million to sign him,and Strachan, who has been involved with him ,thinks we should, why don’t we?If someone DOES come in with a 35-40 million for Eddy, and he goes, what do we do then.If Toney was signed and if as expected Eddy moves on next year,we have a ready made replacement. My mates son,ST holder at Peterbro, says he is the best he has seen.Added to Strachans opinion,I would go with that.We are playing a dangerous game here with Eddy.I am worried someone will stump up the money.
