  1. Anyone had any updates recently on the Lisboa 51 night in The Kerrydale on the 25th May ?

Not heard anything lately, and not saw much talk about it on here.

    AULDHEID @ 12:06 PM,

Agreed, TBB @ 10.27, his blog article (as usual) is excellent. Do the sums! Always great advice. And when you see them laid out and Professionally analysed, it brings it all into total focus – hat doffed!!

Interestingly (prescient or not;) that TBB gave an overview of the pros and CONS of any Sevco share issue!?

Your reply on TSFM to DBD was excellent.

It has always struck me that the use of SFA Article 14 to transfer the SFA Rangers Membership to a new entity was an abuse.

Of course the way the clause they utilised was worded gives them carte blanche (deliberately!?) but yet I still thought that it could be challenged.

Of course after Sports Direct challenged the SFA (on other issues) and the Judge, though partially going with Big Mike, basically said it’s their (SFA) rules to interpret as they please, I thought, maybe the cautious were right.

However you raise a good point. Is the way the SFA interpret the Article in line with UEFA rules??

Now I remember, in the aftermath, Mr Doncaster stating that such a thing happened in England (possibly refering historically in Bristol!?) But he was being disingenuous.

When I first came across Article 14 I wrote an e-mail to Stewart Regan about it, before it was sent, I checked the F.A. equivalent Article of Association. In England the rule was water-tight NO WAY could the F.A. transfer membership of ANY Club, the way the SFA transferred Rangers Membership to Sevco Scotland.

So if the SFA Articles and the way they were (un)enforced does not comply with UEFA requirements this could be huge. It may allow grounds for a judical review.

Also great points on our auld friend the LNS Commision…

…We should Never loose sight of the fact that the SFA have Never investigated, reviewed or upheld the issues raised in the SPL Commision, they are totally free and actually obliged under the circumstances, to hold an inquiry.

    Hail Hail

    ====================

    Thanks for the feedback.

If you e mail me via Paul I’d like your opinion on a draft blog that makes a case that the LNS Commission was misdirected by deliberate non disclosure that Regan most probably was aware of.

A JR is not needed, all the SPFL have to do is act on a suggestion Regan made last September, the fact that they have not does make me wonder just who knew what and when.

  3. Mahe the Madman on

49 quid. Four thousand nine hundred pennies .

Those who have seen or heard that number enough already might want to scroll by.

So we hear it daily. Yet as Vfr is apt to point out the message is stuck on repeat but the point remains valid. Why is it 49 quid? Who decided this ?

Well if it is going to be looked at properly you gather the facts first, standard protocol in any investigation major or trivial. Which this is I leave up to you.

How long has it been 49 quid ?

    According to this article https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/fans-left-stunned-celtic-charge-11755787

The practice began in September 2016.

    Who decided this ?

The above article includes this line “However, looking back on past derbies, the SFA were widely lauded for charging just £19 for tickets for the Scottish Cup tie at Hampden in March this year.” which would intimate that its those in charge of the PLC that made this choice. This is reinforced by other publications at the time which tell us the choice was Celtics alone.

I dipped back in time through the CQN archive and it also seems to confirm that Celtic PLC alone were responsible for this decision.

Heres some comments from that day,,,

    “Massive PR OG.

So much for treating them like any other team in the league.”

“Why are we charging £49 for the Sevco game? We wouldn’t be charging that to watch any other diddy team or indeed any other team in the league. We’re just confirming ‘Old Firmism’ and that they are different. Why aren’t we calling them by their given name ‘The Rangers’?Sometimes Celtic piss me right off.”

“Shame on the club for those Sevco prices. Shocking absolutely shocking. £49!!!!!!!!!!They have to be kidding us on.Why 49 quid ? The simple reason, because they can.”

Thats only on the first page,,I didnt need to go any further as you can see.

Is it right to charge 49 quid ?

I dont think this issue alone splits the camp,,I think there is almost universal acceptance that no game in Scottish Football is worth that price of admission.

What does split the camp is whether folk should pay it at all and attend or not.

At the heart of this issue is the continuity myth. They are a six year old club so why pay that much ?

We all know what some will say to that,,

I will support my team regardless of who they run out against.

I dont care if they are dead I want to beat the next iteration too.

I just love stuffing the huns

    Etc etc

Just these last few days we have seen actions which seem to reinforce to the world at large that “ the Old Firm “ is alive, those actions of course being the appointment of a certain Mr Gerrard and an announcement of investment.

I think we can all assume a 6 year old club , to the eyes of the world that is , would not draw this calibre of manager ( off the field it is a quality appointment and on the field is to be determined ) so to the wider football world it would seem that “ the Old Firm “ is indeed alive and back again after a few blips.

No doubt one of the selling points of that club to their future manager and their signings plus that of Scottish football is the larger Glasgow derby games. They are well attended and raucous. Often high tension and tinged with disciplinary issues. Its a tv spectacle.

So when you take the evidence,,

By far the highest ticket price

    Full house guaranteed

    Always televised

Fans full blooded and at full volume

Very few spares ( going by the blog requests )

2 highest profile managers in the league by a distance

2 biggest budgets in the league by a country mile

Highest games in terms of ratings

Then yes undoubtedly “ the Old Firm “ is back and the PLC have chose 49 quid , are getting that 49 quid, are happy and will tell themselves they made the right choice because they are receiving that 49 quid .

Thus Celtic PLC and by extension those fans that do attend these games are helping the continuity myth. I can draw no other conclusion from that evidence.

The one club,,the very club I was sure would stand up to the same club myth,,the biggest victim of the swindle,,the one club who should be outraged,,folded and went with it seeing the dollar signs. Club like no other?

They dont need the money I would point out,,the club is in record breaking territory finacially and the board they’re all successful and that decision would not have made or broke anybody.

So the board that is lauded on here was faced with a choice,,money or morals.

Go with the “Old Firm” or normal price and allocation ie yeir deid pal and we know it.

They chose money before morals,,something I will try my hardest to teach my wee one never to do as looking at yourself in the mirror and being happy with what you see is much important than a few numbers on a screen,,which is what money is to a lot now and that will only increase.

Now some would have me trust these same people with bigger issues of integrity and morality such as the well being and standing up for the rights of employees, supporters, and players , and to fight the corruption within the domestic game, never mind plot a course that is worthy of that great club .

If they failed the “ Old Firm “ test should I believe they will pass the others?

    I think not.

Their words also back up their actions,,great club and rivals ,, weve just lost 10 million ( not we want justice notice but counts the bottom line ),,coupled with that disgusting video of our home being trashed while taxpayer paid for police stand and watch ( why wasnt their boss called to explain that one ) yet they are invited back again. The people who made that decision wouldn’t allow that in their own home i’ve no doubt, so why is ours ok ?

Where Im sitting it seems to me the decisions of the people in charge of that great club do not align with me on core issues,,fundamental things like stand up for yourself, your friends and family and whats right.

Thats not good . Thats not good at all.

Now Im only 43 years young,,theres many many on this blog and who will read this who are older and wiser.

But I dont need your extra years or your wisdom to know something.

    That something is this,,,

It would have been the SWEETEST feeling in the world if we,,WE,,,CLUB,,PLC,,,FANS,,,BLOGS,, were responsible for the final nail in their coffin.

That nail,,,the first “ Old Firm “ game after months of hype and that prick Crocker or whoever the presenter is saying its time ,,its here,,the world is waiting etc,,and the camera pans around and theres a less than normal crowd because we took a stance .

We had that chance,,right then our boot was on their throat and all we had to do was put our weight on that leg and enjoy their death throes.

All we had to do was shown indifference for one game. Take a stand for one game.

But oh no,,,I wanna stuff zombies. At integrity’s expense.

Kev,,,can you do me a favour please and I shall repay you in beer next time Im in your parts,,,

CAN YOU KEEP IT UP PLEASE !

Exactly, absolutely, the more you read it, you the worse it gets.

The yuppie generation of Celtic, continues to spit on the memory of the “real” Celtic.

    The Celtic supporters became, customers.

Celtic FC stopped being a football club, and became a brand.

Fergus introduced a sorely lacking business ethic, but, that shouldn’t have led to that club selling its soul, but they did, and they continue to do so, and they’ve now cultivated a supporter base who have adopted / developed, worrying hun traits like, smugness, cronyism, capitalism, and the further along the road that you go, you find it more, and more difficult to escape the glaringly obvious FACt that, Celtic and Rangers supporters are the other sides of the £49 Old Firm coin. The tickets have been bought, again, and, again, and, again, and again, there is no going back now, the Celtic supporters / customers, since the PLC era began, have sold the souls of, Brother Walfrid, Willie Maley, Charles Patrick Tully, James Edward McGrory, Mr Stein and his immortal Lisbon Lions, King Kenny Dalglish the greatest “ever” British player imho, Daniel

Fergus McGrain, Big Roy Aitken, Tommy Burns(RIP), Big Mark McGhee, Murdo MacLeod 4-2 Legend, Mr Hay, Mr Jansen, Mr O’Neill, Mr Lennon, Henrik Larsson and the Seville team, and many others, all betrayed…..for a £49 Old Firm Same Club Lie ticket.

Mahe, you don’t need to buy me any beer, thank you for the gesture of Celticness, just know this, I’m blessed by being able to read your words, thank you, and please continue, HH God Bless you.

    …….oot.

  7. Mahe The Madman @ 2:17am

    Outstanding post !!

You are of course correct ……….

Our club did not do enough, some would say done nothing to nail the same club lie.

Absolutely nothing, it should have been done on Day 1 of the new club.

It should also have been done the first time we played the new club.

It should also have been done the first time the new club visited our stadium.

The match day programme should have welcomed Sevco on their first visit to Celtic Park.

We done none of the above.

On to the SFA and their part in the cheating and corruption in our game.

One game at Hampden, just one game, the very first Semi Final after the cheating in 2012 should have been boycotted by our fans.

Just one game at Hampden with no Celtic fans in attendance would have been enough to highlight the corruption to a world wide audience, and also to force our club to act to nail the same club lie.

Our supporters failed, and by doing so gave the SFA the green light to continue the cheating, corruption and anti Celtic bias.

One game is all it would have taken, a Celtic fans boycott would have shone a light on the corruption and have questions asked.

  8. Good morning guys from a dry and warm North Glasgow

Been out for a wee walk before work, lovely.

BMCUW…… Wtf did they not put procedures in place when Rangers died. Ffs that is incredible if true. If I remember right Reagan kept saying there was no procedures in place for this and that and that they were going to make sure rules were in place going forward, as to not allow what happened to Rangers to happen to any other club.

I am astounded by that, well not really I suppose.

Anyway a day of training awaits me in the Double Tree hotel in City Centre, wonder if anyone will storm the place??? Or did that no appen cause I have not seen any press release saying they caught the offenders????

I can’t take the credit for that article. It’s far too well-researched for that!

I received it in response to a query re FFP not applying in Scotland, and what would be the likely reaction to that by UEFA?

As you can see,the authorities have been aware of the problem for at least seven years, and have chosen to ignore it.

Meanwhile, only one club has taken advantage of this;coincidentally, the “same” club which died doing the same beforehand.

Grateful thanks to AULDHEID,as ever, for the article!!!

  10. BMCUW thanks.. If true then what is the point??

Is the game a bogey? Regarding rules?

Anyway come on the Celtic. We just keep winning trophy’s and that will annoy the establishment.

    Mahe The Madman @ 2.17 –

Agree with that 100%. Contacted Celtic directly when the renewal pack came out for their first season in the top flight. Was really conflicted over whether to renew or not but decided o continue, possibly sweetened by finding out that I’d been offered a place in the new rail seating section. So, I renewed but with the intention of not attending the games against them. But as that first home game opportunity approached I was torn over the old ‘support your team on the park’ argument. So, yes, I’ve attended the games against them.

Celtic missed a golden opportunity to ‘make a statement’ without actually making a statement – to (a) charge £29 for the game, and (b) to give them 2,500 – 3,000 tickets just as we offer to any other visiting team for a league game.

By the way I still haven’t renewed for next season yet. There’s apparently just 3 more sleeps to do so although in recent years that deadline has always been extended. Publication of the SFA Compliance Officer report should be insisted upon before asking us all to pay £500+ each….

    TIme to cycle to work….

Well,I think that is how the authorities here would like it to play out. And,without external oversight, that’s what has pretty much happened.

But when you break the law, just because you haven’t been brought to book for it doesn’t mean you’ve got away with it.

Enjoy the jolly at Doubletrees. Just think of all the role-playing you have to look forward to(!)

  13. People comparing SB to other great players… none compare in one respect.

SB has been on the receiving end of some of the worst tackles/assaults I have ever seen.

His self discipline is astounding. He did not get involved with Keane like retribution, especially when the ref does’t even show a card.

SB does however show a steely determination to play to an even higher level, choosing to get his retribution by winning the game.

That is exactly what happened against the huns and minihuns.

I was hugely impressed by the self discipline in the team as a whole. No retaliation (which would instantly gain a red card).

Nope, let the football do the talking.

All the greater pleasure to give the opposition a GIRFUY with the scoreline that truly hurts.

Bertie and I didn’t tackle each other in training! That spoke volumes…

I reckon there were probably quite a few supporters in the same boat as yourself.

Those who wrestled with their conscience, and won.

It was a risk for the Board, and they probably called it right.

Just a pity that they tainted and cheapened Celtic in the process, but that’s business.

  18. Mahe

I think it was during Sevco’s first season in the Scottish Championship (div. 2), the one where they comically failed to gain promotion, that I first heard celtic fans say the words “I can’t wait till they are back- I miss the games against them”. It was an overheard conversation between 2 young men in their late 20s, I would guess, and I chose to keep my tongue and opinion to myself.

Before then, I had entertained the naive notion that all Celts had a similar view towards the corruption and felt they had been inadequately punished for the scale of their offences. Whether those 2 guys shared that position, or not, I will never know, but, if they did, it was not sufficient for them to want to be playing them again. They , at least, had not their fill of these games.

By the time that Sevco actually achieved promotion to the top flight, many more Celts shared that hunger and itch to be playing them and spanking them again. I feel, that as GFTB has said many times, our younger fans are most associated with this position. The chance to take the moral high ground was less attractive than giving out a hunskelping so that they could gloat with bluenose pals, acquaintances, and workmates.

I got on my high horse about it at the time but I quickly realised that, whether the board had taken a price lead or not, there was going to be a full attendance at these matches, with many eager fans locked out who were willing to go. The Board could have set the prices at a lower level, in keeping with games vs Aberdeen, say, but there would have been 2 adverse sides to that decision that I could foresee.

Firstly, if it was perceived as an insult or as gesture politics, then tension would have been ratcheted up about a fixture that already contained many serious threats of hostility.

Secondly, if we lost something of the order of £23 per ticket, given that Sevco would charge the same £49 price for Ibrox tickets, then we could, as you said, easily absorb that one-off deficit but what next? Do we continue to ignore market forces and demand and treat them as “just another club”, knowing that we are allowing them to gain £23 per head on 2 or more occasions every year (minus the 10k attendance difference obviously)?

I think that, sometimes, when we look to our leaders to give us a moral lead, we betray ourselves. They have to live in a world of realpolitik where morals get squeezed. Our Board can quote fiduciary duty to kustify maximising revenue. But what stops us from boycotting, whether they have led the way or not? The answers we get are varied:-

It’s still the same crowd following them- so I want to beat them

The politics have failed- the Continuity Myth has won- so the only victory we get is on the park.

I am prepared to wait for justice to wind its slow course. Meanwhile I won’t victimise myself by foregoing it.

I will follow Celtic and support them regardless of the rogues that turn up as opposition.

There is too much fun to be had with hunskelping. Seriously, man, you are missing a great time.

If the Board don’t take a stand, why should I?

etc; etc; The views are myriad and varied.

The main thing I note is that , despite all the blog noises about the Corruption and cover up, there has never been any organised call for a boycott or any other strategy. Other than the instantaneous and diorganised fan anger of 2012 which saw the attempt to keep Sevco in the SPL suppered (and, Incidentally, I think that was a big mistake as it placed their fate in the sympathetic hands of Ballantyne et al) there has never been a strong boycott movement. Many individuals have decided to make the gesture, either giving up their SBs or giving up the Sevco games within that, but their gestures go un-noticed as there are 20 desperate individuals wanting to attend in their stead and the bottom line takes no hit.

Now, we can sit on the sidelines and bemoan that fact and berate fellow Tims, or we can deflect our anger onto The Board because they did not “lead” us (A subservient position I never want to be in) or we accept this reality- the vastly greater mass of Celtic fans have voted and they want these matches. Taht ain’t gonna change now.

So, if politics is the art of the possible. We have to ask what, realistically, can be done about this? I think calls for boycotts will flounder on a lack of will and organistaion and ill-defined strategies and aims. Celts for Change had all of those and still had fellow-fan opposition to overcome.

We might wait for Res. 12 campaign to get justice served but attendance will keep going regardless of that outcome. So, we are where we are and it is what it is- banal as that “excuse” is.

So, we need a realistic strategy to continue to fight. We need organised bodies to do it and we need clear aims and outcomes. It will not be done via a blog, that is for sure.

  19. I posted this just before the Hearts game but on the wrong thread. If people want a lighter topic for today, they might consider what their Team of The Year (no Celts allowed) would be. I have to head oot now

“In the past few years, I have picked a “best of the rest” team in hte SPFL based on who has had a good season. Usually I leave the Sevco players out because I canot rate them objectively. It is a sign of how rubbish they have become that I can include them this year and, it is surprising how they still fare. The only ones I would consider adding to Celtic are Christie and McGinn, but I fear they may both fall just short of our level.

My team of the year (best of the rest) would be :-

McLaughlin (Hearts)- nothing special but a competent keeper- Bain did not play enough

Tait (Well)- A dirty player but a trier- every team needs one

Berra (Hearts) I really don’t rate him but he has had a good season in a young team

McKenna (Dons)- again a big raw centre half with few top class traits

Mitchell (Hearts)- great attacker- suspect defender

Shinnie (Dons)- impressed most as we gubbed them. Their only player who did not stop

McGeouch (Hibs)- outshone McGinn for me- coming of age

Cadden (Well)- looks a player and is very direct

McGinn (Hibs)- always influences matches, just think he lacks flair

Christie (Dons)- had a great first half before fading

Boyd (Killie)- hard to ignore the fat lad who has been rejuvenated by Stevie C.

Subs: Carson (Well) , Tavernier (Sevco), Hanlon (Hibs), McLean (Dons), Kamberi (Hibs)

Oh look, it seems that the SFA Licensing Committee have had the guts to actually apply some scrutiny to the Sevco UEFA Licence application:

“Q. You say the SFA have asked you for cash guarantees for next season. Is that unusual?

    A. It’s not unusual in the sense that every club has to put a funding plan. You have to put your business plan for the next season to the authorities to get your SFA and UEFA licences. Every club does it. It’s known we are running at a loss so the automatic question is, ‘You’ve got a plan to run a loss, where is the money going to come from?’ And we say we’re going to have a rights issue and they say, ‘Okay, what if it doesn’t happen, we need to know the cash is there,’ so I provided the cash guarantees as I did with the Takeover Panel on the understanding that my guarantees will be drawn down if there is not a rights issue and if there is an issue those guarantees will come back to me. So basically I am funding it until such time as the other funds come into play, which is fine.”

Will they be pressured into accepting such worthless assurances?

Thanks for posting that link to the DK interview last night. Absolutely astonishing. Could be considered a distress call to those in authority, one last year of cheating, similar to 2009, win the league and all will be well again

  22. For anyone just logged on and feeling chipper just read the overnight early morning posts…. that’ll teach you!

  23. Michael,

    What a question.

The ex hun was allowed to do it.

He has had injuries before. It was like an audition.

Both Celts showed Great strength. Hopefully he will regret it Big Time, in the Future.

Furthermore, the chances are that if King did put any more of his on money in (he won’t) then it will be in the form of loans. This does not satisfy the UEFA FFP requirement for presenting a break-even position in future seasons to justify licence award.

    Bobby M,

My father’s workmates was the coach of St.Mirin’s B G, where Davy Hay joined Celtic from.

He obviously monitored his progress through the ranks at CP.

He told my dad two things.

One was that the senior players were reluctant to go into a tackle with Hay, and the other was when he left Celtic, he was the one that hurt Jock the most.

He wanted to build his next team around him.

I note that SFM has also picked up on this on Twitter. The people that should really be scrutinising this and holding the Licensing Committee to account are fans of Kilmarnock! If Celtic do win the Scottish Cup, Kilmarnock should be the rightful holders of that last UEFA place!

  29. The hand of God on

Going back to 2012 I was always going to renew my season ticket as not doing so would have harmed my team Celtic and why would I want to do that ? I had hoped obviously that by the time HMRC won their case against Rangers that the LNS sham would have been revisited an title stripping would begin.I can only assume that the old shake your hand club has went into overdrive to prevent this happening which is something that I hoped was on the decline in Scotland.I would have liked th have seen Celtic fans boycott our first game against “rangers” at Celtic park as I thought it would have drawn global attention to this unique situation but I knew this would not happen as you have guys that just would not do this but also fans that couldn’t wait for this fixture.I recall being horrified whilst walking back to my car after a match …the new “rangers” were playing Dumbarton away in the Scottish cup and a big roar went up from a group of abut a dozen young Celtic fans I quickly consulted Livescore assuming the Sons had beat the Huns only to discover Kris Boyd had scored to give them a narrow victory. To my utmost annoyance I discovered that the young team were celebrating being drawn against Newco in the league cup semi final. As I walked along towards my car several other fans shouted out the “good news” to my group of friends.I was appalled at their enthusiasm for this fixture but soon realised that the vast majority of Celtic fans that I know shared their enthusiasm. You would be amazed at the number of fans who have never heard of resolution 12 or even the LNS enquiry or simply do not care.I do care and believe it’s simply the biggest sporting scandal ever but do I want to punish Celtic by not renewing my season ticket and in doing so give “rangers” a better chance of winning titles…no I don’t.
