Are you honestly saying your not enjoying this treble treble because the board appointed Neil ???

    Whit the duck !!!!

If that was the case my old man would never have celebrated any Celtic victory from 1925-1995 as he hated every Celtic board !!!!

  2. Treble treble ruined by lennons appointment.

The cheap option and more turgid , dire football.

For the CL group stages. Can start closing the top tiers.

Have 3 season tickets and will not attend much to watch dross.

  3. Up like a bird on

We have looked bad this season because we only had one striker, and 1 after another we had continual unfortunate injuries, and without the depth of our squad we wouldn’t have got through the season. Everything That could has went against us and when Lenny gets to bring in at least 5 players to add to the core squad we have People will be eating their own words. its not all doom and Gloom its been bad fro us thats for sure, but we still got through it. the only way is up..

  4. DAVID17:

Some interesting points there mate, but I’d like to take issue with a few if I may.

“When Peter says there is no better candidate what he means is there is nobody better suited to the position that will align with how the Board want things to be.”

That reads to me like a very convulted way of saying that the board decided what their level of ambition was, and what they wanted to spend, and picked the candidate who ticked that box. And that, of course, is almost certainly true, and it’s exactly why some of us are pissed.

“There is a good case for appointing NL as Manager. He is solid appointment who should deliver a strong points tally in the League. There are also lots of reasons not too but they are irrelevant now as it is a done deal.”

Agree with the first two parts, and that might surprise you. I disagree with the last bit, which is that it’s irrelevent. Even the supporters who will give Lennon their full backing in spite of their doubts now have a whole new set of issues with the people who appointed him, and that’s not going to go away, that is going to grow and spread as next season unfolds.

There ARE reasons for appointing Lennon, but I don’t think they are as important as the reasons not to. He will certainly make us hard to beat; the stats prove that. He will also make us awful to watch and the performances prove that. I have doubts about some of his reputed transfer targets as well, but understand that I should temper that with skepticism because of the sources.

But if we do go out and sign, for example, Gary Hooper then it’s be afraid time. You can’t have failed to notice that the club is crying out for a target man, especially as the tactic looks like it’s going to be “cross the ball into the box and hope for someone to get on the end of it.” Does Gary Hooper fit that description? How many strikers of a similar style do we want at the club?

As I said, that’s probably speculative BS … I guess we’ll find out now.

“Today and recently it has been galling to see on the pitch how much the quality has been stripped from the squad in just a short period of time.”

I don’t know what that refers to. Dembele and Armstrong were sold and not replaced; I agree there, but the same people who failed to replace them under Rodgers are the same people a lot of folk on here are placing faith in to spend the money now. I don’t share that optimism at all.

The quality on the pitch today is virtually the squad that has secured us three trebles in a row; the quality is still there. The manager is what’s changed, this is his varient on the Rodgers system with the Rodgers team. If we looked lacking, that’s only one person’s fault.

“PL has on this occasion got his man and it is now clear to see what the ambitions of the Celtic Board actually are. Economically this is a good appointment for the Board.”

Agree 100% and that seems, to me, to have been the ONLY real consideration they made here. Scandalous in every way.

“As a final point i have to say the manner of the appointment is bizarre and reeks of amateurism. Today was about the players and the supporters enjoying themselves and a tremendous achievement. The appointment should have been confirmed on Monday in a more professional manner, not in a dressing room shower room.”

If I could give a paragraph a standing ovation that one would get it.

  5. James Forrest

Unfortunately you are preaching to some who don’t want to see the truth. I do think however, we should now back Neil to the hilt. Not my first choice but there it is. Onwards n upwards…..

  6. GFTB:

As sad as it makes me mate, that’s exactly what I am saying.

The board has shown itself to share none of the ambitions for the club that I have. None of them.

Everything about how this has been done, from the waste of three months to the cynicism in announcing it when they anticipated the doubts would get lost in the euphoria, to the all-round dread I feel when I consider the next campaign … yeah I wish I wasn’t saying that but I am.

  7. Mixed emotions today.

Play poorly but come from behind to win the treble treble.

Amazing feelings at full time, then the charlatan announces that Lenny has been offered the job permanently.

    Absolutely gutted about that.

How did the charlatan manage to tempt a guy whose 2 jobs since leaving Celtic previously were a bottom of the table finish at Bolton and getting the sack from 8th place Hibs because of his bawling and shouting at a player leading to him losing the dressing room.

The charlatan can do what he wants now.

  8. Up like a bird 11.20pm

Spot on…. board or manager (not Neil no transfer window) I don’t even class young Odsonne (Larsson) as a number 9… it’s been a crazy season we have a massive squad but struggle in about 4 positions … love how it’s ended but glad to see the back of it hope Neil has a fitba “etch a sketch” shakes it and we start again

CRC has the best moniker on here Celtic is a definite Roller Coaster at 1-0 today I was contemplating us losing a final …. we used to not get to finals :-)

  9. Celtic captain Scott Brown was originally interviewed post-match giving his backing to Lennon being offered the job.

After news eventually found Brown, he said: “It’s phenomenal. It can’t get much better.

“We all found out on Twitter and all the lads are diving about in the changing room. We went out, got the gaffer and brought him back in. The cheer for the manager to get the job – it was phenomenal. He deserves it. It has been a hard one since he came in but he’s the only man in my eyes for the job.

“He has had to win two trophies and yet again he has shown that he knows how to win trophies. He’s a fantastic man manager and he’s been fantastic since he came in. He speaks well and every single one in that changing room loves him.”

As long as people wanna talk, I’m gonna talk to them if that’s alright with you? Yeah?

Fine by me, maybe use a lot fewer words and be mindful of the affect of your posts have on everyone a day we’ve just done something very special.

  12. James 11.23pm

Again I enjoy your posts, we can all react and I have wrote plenty of stuff online that I cringe at … but if you honestly feel that way it’s a sad place to be… Peter Lawell means f all to me about Celtic (I think he does what his boss tells him to do) Dermot Desmond means f all to me about Celtic …. Scott Brown, Kieran Tierney, Young Odsonne (Larsson) are Celtic never let the suits consume your love of Celtic …. in fact never let anything spoil this privilege:-)

  13. Neustadt-Braw on

goodnight Weefra …regards to the boss

  14. Today I do not wish to comment on anything other than the triple ( correct adjective to be used in this case) treble and to congratulate all the players who have over the last three years contributed to achieving this historic moment in Scottish football. As I approach my 80th birthday, I am grateful for all the wonderful moments that I have shared with Celtic. Away back in the summer of 1966, I was on holiday in the USA and I saw the emergence of the Lisbon Lions as Mr Stein tried out all sorts of ideas in the two games I saw in New Jersey. Then I was privileged to be present on this day 52 years ago in Lisbon as we became European Champions. I managed to be present in the San Siro and Seville on other occasions. I have witnessed nine in a row. And now the triple treble, plus other League Championship and Cup wins.

Yes, there have been difficult times but like others, I have stayed with the team and have been rewarded by so many successes and I have watched some wonderful players over the years. Long may Celtic continue to prosper, but for this supporter they will never walk alone. Hail, hail.

  15. Maybe just for today we should celebrate an incredible achievement and give credit to everyone involved. Plenty of time to get angry about other stuff

Life is short, you need to enjoy moments like today

  16. Oh….and although he wasn’t my first, second, third, fourth. fifth…….so on so on….choice….hail hail Lenny…he’s now the Boss

What effect? Good God, the day people are “affected” by what I write … well, that’s crazy.

You’re an author and a blogger, you do understand the how what you write affects people

  19. Connaire12 11.33pm

That puts us “youngsters” in our place and absolutely spot on

It should always be about Celtic the team

  20. Forgot to mention early that I am further delighted that Leinster won at Celtic Park as I am descended from the ‘Clann’ from which the Kings of Leinster came. Great day all round.

  21. I suggested yesterday (Before a cup final ball had been kicked) that we should avoid gesture politics. The emotional draw.

I would have hoped for cool heads, and bloody firm decisions.

Alas, it would appear I was wrong.

Does anyone seriously believe our long term managerial review, which should have started the second Brendan buggered off, has been a success? Or did we just appoint the easiest option. The path of least resistance?

Have we down sized? You bet

(for those who criticise the timing of this criticism, Celtic chose to announce this now. Today. A good day to bury mediocre news? You decide)

  22. Uncle Jimmy 11.58pm

    Brendan done the bunk

Dermot & Peter asked Neil to step in, does anybody in their right mind think Neil said “I will do the job and if I deliver league & cup you can sack me” seriously ??? They asked Neil and Neil said if I deliver am I getting the job … Neil hasn’t accepted yet for one reason … his agent will be meeting Peter saying …, I want £xxxxxxx we done our part …. some entitled Celtic fans should grow up… do you actually think Neil is that stupid he would do the job for “the Brendan of it” grow up, deal with it, support Celtic not Benitez or ex-Motherwell player or even Mourinho …. If you think Neil Lennon didn’t put “conditions” in taking the job well some of you are as stupid as me :-)

  23. One of the greatest achievements of this side is their self-discipline. Confronted with opponents who use physical assault as their primary tactics, Hearts being possibly the worst example, the Celtic players show quite incredible control. The number of assaults on SB and ST in particular is astonishing and we can’t forget RC sitting in the stand watching the game yesterday, after a head-butt which smashed his face up, had it been a few inches to the side it could very well have killed him.

It shows a complete lack of awareness of the game, all these so-called experts spouting forth about how wonderful Hearts were. If you look actually observed what went on you will see a team which were sent out to use any means to disrupt Celtic. They fouled persistently and took every opportunity to hit the deck whenever a Celtic player came near them.

Just watch the game again and count the number of times Hearts players went down without any real contact. There was one laughable moment in the game when the action replay was showing and quite clearly the commentator (can’t recall which one) was trying to describe how he had been fouled but the replay clearly showed the player going down long before any contact was made. The commentator then had to quickly change what he was in the process of saying.

The Celtic players were fouled all over the park with no punishment by the MIB, not leg-breaking fouls, no, much more subtle tugs, obstruction etc… but consistent.

Such tactics should be deplored by the media. Call it for what it is, deliberate cheating. Instead we have a panel of experts praising Levein’s tactics.

Collum wanted to get through the game without the media focussing on him. He got his wish.

That does not mean he did a good job. He enabled the cynical tactics employed by Hearts by turning a blind eye to the blatant and deliberate ploy of disrupting Celtic’s play by illegal means. These players should have been booked and facing the prospect of a red if they continued.

One of Collum’s worst decisions, of no major import but shows his appalling judgement, was when TR was being blatantly man-handled by 2 Hearts players. Trying to stay on his feet he grabbed one of the opponents shirt … peep, free-kick. Evidently, only maroon shirts are not tuggable.

There are many who claim that all this is just part of the game. No it isn’t, it is blatant cheating. Let’s put it this way, had Celtic employed such deplorable tactics would they be dismissing it as simply part of the game? I don’t think so. You’d never hear the end of it.

Next season will see this ascend to astronomical levels.

Congratulations to the Celtic squad for their success, achieved without resorting to the negative, game destroying tactics of so many of their opponents.

  24. GFTB – neil has done as everyone hoped he would for the closing stages of league and cup. He should be thanked, applauded and remembered for this.

Does that mean he is the best candidate to oversee our next league and Euro campaign, from June to June? Had Brendan left today, would Neil be the top candidate, a club such as ours could attract?

    I’d, respectfully, suggest not.

  25. Goooooooooooooooooood evening CQN from a green and white garden of God

    Wow ….. We done it.

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas
