  1. Speculation and conjecture can be great fun, exciting and keeps the interest going…especially on social media.

I’m guessing tho’ that some those who thought they knew what was going to happen may have exposed their own lines of communication and may find they face the consequences now.

That’s not to say that they won’t get snippets of insider info – from their proximity to Celtic Park or Bobby Lennoxtown but perhaps the big stuff remains beyond their ears and above their heads?

  2. Big Wavy, your concerns are noted, valid and shared by many.

Big Jimmy, your analogy abou marriage doesn’t quite fit. The marriage is to Celtc and we all still love them. My sons are both madder Celtic fans than I am (I’m all about the football, culture is second, they are the opposite). But both are disillusioned by the managerial appointment.

They are not going to walk away, but I am going to get earache listening to them whining and whinging every time we don’t win a game by a 3 goal margin next season.

  3. The Triple Treble Neil Lennon/Celtic Party will continue at 12.30pm Today when the Boozers open…For those Saddo’s who do not wish to be “Party” to the “Party”…away and lie in yer ain Pish.

Everyone at Celtic is saddened at the death of Harry Hood, who has passed away at the age of 74. A Celtic great, Harry made 310 appearances for the Hoops between 1969 and ’76, scoring a very impressive 123 goals.

Having started his playing career with Clyde, he had a spell with Sunderland before returning to Clyde, and it was after three seasons with the Bully Wee that Jock Stein brought him to Celtic.

Celtic were blessed with exceptional, world-class strikers at that time, having won the European Cup two years previously, but Harry Hood offered something different to the rest. He had skill, poise and a touch of real class. When given a chance in front of goal, he rarely panicked. The supporters loved him and were happy to immortalise another hero in a varied repertoire of songs.

Hood’s 123 goals in 310 appearances prove that his signing was another masterstroke from Jock Stein. He augmented a vibrant group of forwards and the medals flowed. Indeed, the first of those 123 goals came on his debut, a 3-0 league win over St Mirren at Love Street on March 29, 1969.

Harry won the League Cup that same year to pick up his first piece of silverware as the Hoops beat St Johnstone 1-0 in the final, and he never looked back. When Harry left Celtic in 1976, he took away six Scottish League medals, four Scottish Cup medals and two League Cup medals – a very impressive haul.

He won the league every season from 1968/69 to 1973/74 and lifted the Scottish Cup in 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1975 and the League Cup in 1969 and 1974. In 1970/71, Hood was Celtic’s top scorer with 33 goals.

In a fiercely competitive era, full international honours never came Harry’s way, but his club exploits made up for that disappointment.

Aside from Celtic, he also played for Clyde, Sunderland, Motherwell and Queen of the South. He also had a spell in America after leaving Celtic. Wherever he went, Hood scored goals. That knack never deserted him.

Hood deserves his place in Celtic folklore. He wasn’t a Lisbon Lion or a Quality Street Kid, but he fitted in perfectly at Celtic. He had the X-Factor that helped the team win games and in many ways he was the classic Celtic player. His record of 123 goals and 12 major honours stands comparison with the greats.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Harry’s family and friends at this extremely sad time.

    Spot on yet again …

Whether our new manager was appointed yesterday or tomorrow at 4pm we should back him regardless until the manager actually gives us a reason (losing competitions) not too

    Away for a read back

    Still buzzing :-)

  8. I just heard about Harry Hood passing, Rest in Peace.

    Great memories.

Big Jimmy, cheers, we just made history. I wasn’t going to let anything take the shine off that, this mornings news does put it into perspective though.

PS, I said last night, the guy who runs this blog did know NFL was getting the job, he told me a fortnight ago.

I told plenty of others who were there, Stephen Black, BRTH, CRC, T4, Pog and a few others were told.

A mhan who actually heard us calling in the night and answered the call.

Enjoy your day fholks, this is a historic time, we may never see the likes again.

    Deceptive site ahead: Samsung prizes

This is a phishing scam exclusive to my CQN login. It hijacks my browser everytime I come on to this site

  10. Stephbhoy – great post???

Let’s move on and get behind The Celtic team and manager.

Credibility update…it seems the JohnJamesSite has deleted the post where he asserted Moyes defo had the gig (and which I shared on this site as I see JJ as having interesting material). Wonder what made him expunge;)

I’ll continue to look at his, JFs, videocelts and this forum – taking what I like and leaving the rest. “With a treble yell…” HH

When I grow up I want to be Petec :-)

I know fellow Celtic fans might not agree with Neil’s appointment but just can’t understand why it annoys them so much

Since Neil left Leicester in 2000 we have had 19 cracking years when we only lost any league title to cheaters with their improperly registered financially doped squad

Am delighted with Neil’s appointment and will judge him when it’s his team and not the other “lifelong” Celtic fan :-)

  13. The Herts keeper was 3yards off his line before French Eddy hit his Pen.. Cheating bassas.?

    D. :)

  14. GFTB, when you grow up? Will that ever happen?

I’m behind NFL, he is the manager and needs our support.

Let’s remember they will come after him, the SMSM, the SFA, the Honest men in Black, not to mention the knuckle draggers.

  15. i'vehadtochangemymind on

Br would have no problem going back – sweet mother , he’s off his head

Time for hair of the auld madra!

  16. Doc 11.32am

Exactly… am hoping never having to grow up :-)

Actually worse in real life, always a kid at heart

Big Jimmy from earlier… I also thought Johnny Hayes had a very good game, also thought Arron Hinkey (?) had a very good game, we rave about wee Karamoko but this 16yr old played our James Forrest really well

  17. Disappointing to see Celtic supporters arguing with each other over Lenny being offered the manager’s position.

Irrespective of our personal opinions regarding the offer being made none of it makes an iota of difference to the man who has the final say – DD. I, like many, am disappointed that Lenny has been offered the role but if he accepts he will have my full support. I will also admit to being somewhat peeved to learn that, allegedly, the decision had been made a while ago. Was this before we had looked at and constructively assessed all those who had showed an interest in the position? If we didn’t that is a gross failure by the board. Celtic FC is run as a business and as such there is no room for sentiment or nepotistic appointments -the best candidate gets the job – end of argument that is how successful business is run and success maintained. Now perhaps Lenny was the best candidate as other potential candidates were not interested? I guess we may never know.

However, imo, the most pertinent question we should be asking is will the board actually back the new manager and allow him to spend a significant amount of our bloated bank balance securing quality 1st team ready players? Failure to properly invest in a squad long overdue an overhaul could be the biggest issue we face next season. Also please let us see an end to the production line signings of ‘projects’ and loans – unless there is a caveat in the loan deal that we have 1st option to sign the player should he prove to be any good.

My advice to Lenny – refuse the job unless DD sanctions signing Paddy Roberts.

There’s an ‘Edoaurd clear dive ‘ thread on FF asking for VAR – how fuggin hilarious ?

  20. By all accounts Cqn is like follow follow … according to the unhappiest Celtic site on the planet … nearly every post is after something they read on here … note to self, try and not to read it ever again … although once we actually lose a trophy I will have to go back … if nothing else just to cheer me up :-)

  21. glendalystonsils on

Once we see Neil Lennon’s team playing Neil Lennon’s way (rather than Neil overseeing BR’s team playing BR’s way) , we will then be able to judge whether this is the right appointment or not.

Until then , it would be nice to see a bit more positivity around.

  22. glendalystonsils on

Sad news about Harry Hood . Great player and nice, genuine guy. Got me a Celtic ball signed by the team for my bhoy .

    RIP Harry.

  23. How the heck did that guy Waring not get booked yesterday ?

Also surely Zlamal bringing Edouard down should have been a yellow ? Then he wouldn’t have been able to try and put Odsonne off when he did get a yellow

Anyhow father & grandfather duties calling so Doc will be happy that am offline for a few hours :-)

    Defo won’t be sleeping though…

  24. The Onlooker on

Johnjames told us that Moyes would be announced on Monday.

He had been “reliably informed” .

His article has now been pulled.

I wonder if the person who leaked the information to Johnjames has been been smoked out. I can see Peter Lawwell as spymaster giving misinformation to different people to see what pops up.

If so I will be watching Celtic FC for a departure announcement from the backroom staff in the next few days.

It might also be the end to leaked team sheets : )

  25. I was just as happy about yesterday as it is possible to be, supporting Celtic but I cried briefly at the thought of those who had missed out on the moment.

The appointment of Neil as manager did not take any of the shine of this feeling for me, even though I may have preferred a different outcome. And I was pleasantly surprised to find this morning’s hangover less severe than I thought it might be.

But news of the death of another childhood “hero” brought back some feelings of shame for my callous views as a younger Celtic supporter.

Harry Hood, and Charlie Gallagher, were both called out, by my mates and myself, as effeminate types of players because they did not seem to relish the meaty challenges side of the game. Charlie was even dubbed with the name of Bridie Gallagher, an Irish singer of the time, but Harry was regularly called out as a coward, much like our current winger, Wee Jamesie, because he did not, it seemed to us, enter the 50:50 challenges with the same degree of determination that we were used to with the mighty Joe McBride, Steve Chalmers or Dixie Deans.

Despite the evidence of a regular supply of goals, we refused to change our opinion of him until I had the epiphany after the Athletico Madrid game of 1974. The papers, the next day, showed the bruising on the players legs, including Harry’s, who had faced up to the thuggery of that team. This was in the days before photoshopped pictures and the bruising really showed up in the pictures.

No coward earned that treatment. Just like Jimmy Johnstone, Harry had squared up those challenges again and again in an attempt to allow our superior skill to break through their violent defence.

I got the chance, on CQN many years ago, to tell this shameful story and present it as evidence that we are quick to form an erroneous picture of a player’s personality, based on our standing as observers of the game , or practitioners of a lower level of it.

Charlie Gallagher plied his trade on the muddy pitches of the 50s, 60s and early 70s. He was a skilful and intelligent player who glided across pitches. He did not fit our particular callous stereotype of what a footballer should be. Harry Hood beat men with skill and timing rather than hustle, bustle and muscle so he, too, fell short of our crude picture of a “real football man”.

I apologised to Harry Hood already and I apologise again to him and Charlie for our utter, utter, misjudgement on them as footballers and men. They faced down more challenges and adversity than I ever had to face and they came back for more.

I am glad that Harry lived long enough to see the Celtic Treble Treble and is now at peace from the ravages of that terrible disease.

I am glad that Charlie still lives amongst us and is healthy and is humbly able to have the last laugh on all of us, who in our callow youth, dared to mis-judge him.

    If I can paraphrase e. e. Cummings

    “Christ(of His mercy infinite)

i pray to see; and Harry, too

    preponderatingly because,

    unless statistics lie, he was

more brave than me: more blond than you.”

    Harry Hood RIP
