  1. Watching today Rogic was much more of a threat as a striker than Ciftci. Big physical and good feet if griff unavailable an option we could use with Allan or Christie in the hole or much maligned Armstrong maybe. GMS and Armstrong remind me of Bobby Petta before O’Neil gave him some confidence , they obviously have ability but so lacking in confidence. I got a lovely CD as one of my Xmas presents apologies if someone has already posted its called the white and green by Liam McGrandles great Celtic songs with all proceeds going to Celtic Foundation. On sale in all Celtic shops well done Liam very proud of you.HH

  2. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Tontinetim at 4.12, that was the only time I ever gave Tommy any grief. I was working in Lancashire in late 1996, when we played that game at Tynecastle you mentioned. Radio 5 had switched to our game for the last few minutes. Hearts were pumping high balls into our box and I was shouting at the radio to bring Milk Mackay on so we had more physical presence in our box. I could hardly believe it when wee Brian came. Hearts eventually equalised when Mcpherson scored with a header right at the end of the game.

I’m glad Internet access wasn’t around as much that season and the following when Jose Quitongo scored a last second goal to equalise.

We have history of not building from a position of strength and I agree big improvement is required on the pitch but we all have our own thoughts on how this should be done. Only the power makers and breakers on the board, at the moment, can get things changed.

  3. TCR,

    Back on now,

your post about john chrichton and doak. i told you before big john should have made it as a fitballer, all his brains were in his feet, or maybe his pants.

he was a very very good greenock shammy player, he could have been a contender.

Hope you and family had a great Christmas Bhud :-)

I seen your post yesterday, you did nothing to upset us, you have an opinion on Celtic and Ronny which differs from mine, we both want to see a better Celtic, that’s fine by me, even though your is wrong :-))))

Eddie only my view, we have a huge budget in comparison to all others in Scotland, spending over £35m this season on football operations.

No idea to our nearest challengers in Scotland (SPFL) , will be nowhere near £10m,I believe Sevco still have 2nd biggest budget out with us ?

Now just my view, as outlined by a few, we should be miles ahead of most in the SPFL with this budget, maybe we are paying our players too much ? We are paying more than most teams out with England, top teams in France, Spain and Germany.

I believe we have thrown away a huge opportunity in past 2 seasons to take s miles away from the rest, we have retracted to others levels ?

I agreed with Ronny, we have too big a squad, reduce it to say 22 players, supplement with youths, and let’s get some better quality with the money we are freeing up

I am not seeing any improved fitness ? I believe we have little pace in the team, we are not closing down or moving into position as effectively as promised, all down to the way Ronny has us playing

As stated we can disagree, but I believe we are going backwards in an alarming rate

Ronny is not being helped with the very poor signing policy we are following, again in my opinion only, I have no dea why we signed an unfit Carlton Cole – how much is that draining from our resources ? Why did we sign Scott Allen ? Tyler Blacket on loan ?

There must be better for the alleged £1.5m we have spent on Ciftci ? So our Scouting is failing as it has for several years in finding us a striker.

I am witnessing players going backwards – Johansen, Armstrong, GMS, Lustig I could go on, how many are improving under Ronny ?

Now there-in lays my issues with our current team, and don’t mind a differing view

    Hail Hail

Apologies I did not realise your post was tongue in cheek

But I have reverted to pre liquidation days and my paranoia is back

  6. Hunderbirds are Gone on

I still hope, and would prefer, that Ronny succeeded over any other option. Previous models of management set ups, whereby we largely construct teams from a transfer kitty, are no longer open to us, due to our location in such a small marketplace. Our geographical proximity to the richest football marketplace only highlights the folly and futility of trying to mimic that model.

If Ronny could deliver on everything he outlines in his vision for our club we would IMO be heading along the right path. We can’t afford better players, so we must coach the ones we have to be better, we must be fitter, bring through our own players and when we do enter the transfer market, we must be better at spotting players, of any age, who can develop into better players.

That all said, I am beginning to worry if Ronny can deliver on what he says he can. Buying players is always hit and miss. Assuming Ronny is at the helm when we come out of the transfer window (and I fully expect he will be) I think we may get answers as to his ultimate suitability to the task based not on what quality of player he brings in, BT what types and positions come in.

No more centre midfielders please, we have enough to be going on with………. unless that midfielder is a direct replacement for Broonie when he is not available. I.e a spoiler, a tackler, somebody not afraid to put the boot in, a leader, or a Lenny if you will. Somebody to act as minder to all of the younger talent we already have in these positions.

A right full back who is not made of glass and has the real pace required by our system to get back into position quickly, and work in tandem with Izzy/Tierney when we lose possession, and not be left stranded in the oppositions half.

An experienced centre back to bring Boyata and Simunovic on, and offer cover in that position, as our current scarcity of players in that position may yet prove problematical for this years trophy quest, and I think the existing two need experience to mentor them.

If any real money is to be spent in pursuit of a Champions League group stage berth next season, then we have to roll the dice on finding another striker to compete with Griff for that place and offer an alternative. Maybe easier said than done, but one that can score would be good.

In summary, I think trying a new way is right. We are only heading on to 2 years in to Ronny’s tenure – it is a long term plan. However, he has to show that he understands where our team has weaknesses and address them. So……… An experienced CH, a robust right fullback, a Lenny type midfielder and a striker that can score, simples!!! He has my full support and I believe he can be the man. If he buys another clutch of young ball playing midfielders, well???

Ps obviously some players need to move on too.

  7. Currently the standard of player in the SPFL is very poor.

It has been for quite some time.

We should keep away from signing other SPFL players.

When was the last time we signed a player from an SPFL club and that player improved the side.

Let’s hope Ryan Christie breaks that record ,but I very much doubt it.

The demands at Celtic are very much greater and require more consistency than these players are able to provide.

The likes of GMS ,Cifti,Armstrong are just not good enough.

The fact that our scouts highlighted them ,and Ronnie & Johnnie sanctioned their signings.

Shows to me that they are out of their depth.

The boards “moneyball ” strategy is now failing badly.

A change of strategy is required as much as anything else.

Too much dead weight at CP

Ronny……? A roaring success compared to some of the dummies in Derk’s bogie. Better have a bogie ready for Ronny in the summer though……….just in case.

  19. TCR,

Over the years , from a port-centric view of the world where i thought ever toon was as celtic as ours growing up. (1970’s).

I played some football as a bhoy, never enough, allways distracted to go see the celtic, but i genuinely believed that the world was the same as mine. IE every toon was a celtic toon.

then i started working, all over scotland,

then i found out. scotland was full of huns, ugly wuns, cos they are not handsome,

i spent time (not in her majestys establishments) , working in dumbarton, love it, warehouses in clydebank, renfrew braehead, irvine, livingstone, etc etc ,

to find out the port and greenock were the most tim safe locations in scotland, go anywhere else. wear hoops, or a scarf, or a badge, you got a hard time, often,

and me a wee skiiny bhoy from the port , kind of , often the boss, i was truelly often scared, on a back shift , late at night with a few huns as the lorry loaders.

however, in all my travels, i met tims allover,

    harthill mick was my favorite,

tell you what though, i never got beaten,

It’s very rare for Ronny to talk of revolutionary diets and fitness. It is a vastly overblown concept usually referred to by his critics. Ronny is looking for no more than Jock looked for when he tried to keep Jinky out of the pub or sending Bobby M to Health Farms. Every manager wants their players to make the most of their short careers and that involves looking after your body.

Ronny’s reaction to Scott Brown being photied eating a kebab should tell you that he has a grounded approach to these matters. Henrik did not suffer as a footballer by having a few fags, Leigh is not affected by his occasional teacake habit, and Scott Brown is allowed an occasional blowout as he never skimps on effort at training.

So you won’t find Ronny talking too much about diet and constant salad eating. These players are measured on several fitness measures every few days. Any weight gain, any loss of aerobic fitness not accounted for by injury, and any tendency to have stamina issues beyond the hour mark are known to the management team before the players step on the field. And that has been part of the CP and Lennoxtown set up since pre-MON days. The club should publicise its sports science set up- it would put to rest a few issues re who is fat and unfit and who is not.

No, Ronny does not overplay the diet issue- he leaves that to be an obsession for those looking for a convenient stick. If RD was that bothered about the diet issue, I would not be able to see from my brothers lower stand seat, the regular sight of our unused or injured players eating the pies in hospitality while they watch the game. Lat muncher I saw was Derk Boerigter- he probably thinks a mutton pie is an exotic foodstuff, raised on gouda and hash as he was.

  21. 67 heaven – and right back at you Sir :-)

And I do hope your studying ?

PS – did you wife work at TNT 30 odd years ago ? My wife thinks she worked with her if so ?

  22. Haven’t read back didn’t see the game. I presume there are folk calling for Ronnys removal and some who are saying what’s the alternative or he can still win a treble etc.

Ronny can indeed win the treble. Chances are he won’t. Today could be a statistical chalk mark on the general ups and downs of a season or it could be evidence of a dip in domestic as well as European form.

I have said before that the high 80s should be more than enough to win the league. We are on course for that no need to panic now on that front. We will still win the league.

Ronny differs from most of our managers of the recent past in his go for it attitude. That has not proven to be his personally designed bullet yet but it may well come. Where the decision comes to fill the gap left by Brown, Ronny has played McGregor in there. Other managers would have played Ambrose consistently. He keeps making those kind of decisions. The management see this as an experiment with youth. Celtic, I suspect are not a big enough club in their eyes to go and compete in Europe.

Ronny is carrying out instructions. He won’t be sacke.
