  1. Mets gave up 4 runs in the 5th and now trail 4-1 middle of 7th.

    Good chance of a decent sleep tonight.

    I agree.

    Rogic made the difference. We had no real threat or bite in the forward midfield area until he came on.

    Commons was ineffective and JF was poor. LG truly got no service until late in the 2nd half.

    Bitton and Johnasen were playing too deep and never really impacted things in the last third and thus the stage was set for Tom Rogic. When he came on we could only wonder where Forrest had been hiding for 65 minutes.

    Rogic’s goal was a sublime finish but his lung bursting run into the six yard box to get there was something that no midfielder had done all night.

    The team looked better balanced with Rogic in that role too.

    On the funny side, Jim Craig was a man of two minds tonight and made me laugh out loud.

    A. Criticising Commons (correctly IMO) in the first half for wasteful possession and then complaining in the second half that he was not getting the ball and that he was the play-maker.

    B. For the first 10 mins of the 2nd half he and Gerry McDaid were saying how much Hearts were on top, but by FT Celtic had been in complete control of the whole second half “from the kick off”.

    C. A jersey pulling by a Jambo was nothing really while a tug by Nir Bitton was a def yellow card.

    BTW If we can’t find James Forrest on Saturday, look inside Paul Cuddihy’s beard. It’s longer than the ZZ Tops.

    I see a few comments on La Griff’s goal as being Larsonn-esque.

    I would posit that it was more Messi-esque, but it was magnificent nonetheless.

    But his assist for the second goal was simply……………..

    ………Lennox-esque.

    We have a fabulous striker in Leigh.

    Oh that our Anto would emulate his progress!

  4. RWE

    That made me laugh

    Paul’s beard is hiding the Lost 9th Roman Legion.

    Mets getting hit to every area,of the ballpark and my battery is less than 5%, so a pn early bed is in order.

    Kansas City leading 7-1 bottom of the 8th with one out.lights out Mets.

  5. Good result tonight without hitting our best form. Hearts were pretty awful to be fair, but the bhoys did more than enough. 2-1 flattered Hearts. Pleased for Griff. I said in the Summer that he would be standout this season and he is on his way to the 25 goals I thought he would get.

    Concerned that our forward play is laborious at times. We are not creating much in the final third and that is where it is hurting us in Europe. Maybe a forward coach would do the trick.

    Not complaining though. We have a lot more to offer than we have shown recently

  6. Good morning friends from a disappointingly wet and blustery East Kilbride.

    Nothing disappointing about last night’s result though as Ronny maintained his 100% record in the competition and (some would say finally) made a game changing substitution when introducing Tom Rogic to proceedings. Leigh was fantastic at both goals.

    The quadruple is still on ;-)

  7. Belated thanks to all for the match commentary last night. I have not seen the goals yet but by going from the comments here they were the highlights in what could have been a frustrating and maybe disappointing night.

  8. Another day, another quid stuck on Hibs to win The Championship ;-)

    Enjoy your day everybody

    Good evening fellow Celts. I’ve just spent the better part of 2 hours online sharing the game via Skype with one of CQN’s finest, Celticrollercoaster. To make long story short, I’ve been away from the blog for over a year due to the pettiness of some comments from members new and old. Frankly I was tired of the arguing and low ball personal attacks on some of the original group. Celticrollercoaster was good enough to remind me what this blog originally stood for and effectively still does today. No man is bigger than Celtic Football Club or CQN, for that matter, so I am hoping to join the fun, debates and camraderie once again. I may not have a lot to say but l am back to lurking and following closely some great people who I have gained lifelong friendships with because of the blog. Looking forward to traveling home for Saturday’s game. Thanks to Minx1888 and HT. I am forever indebted to you.

    (Quite a long post from someone who ‘may not have a lot to say’ so welcome back to the fold,bud)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Care to elaborate?
  11. i'vehadtochangemyname on
    I have to give credit to Rd for getting rogic to show what he’s made of. If he can keep him improving we’ll have real quality on the pitch. And not a minute before time,I’ve got potential fatigue-a bit tired of waiting around to see if people turn out to be good.
  12. My friends in Celtic,
    Great result and again thanks for the updates Bhoys. Ronny will get things right and we must persevere with our long term learning curve. It is well documented on here that many just do not like or rate Ronny and ” cheap option ” comments abound.
    If Ronny wins all that can be won domestically then his long term future must be surely assured.
    One wee thing though I have commented that cups such as the league cup ( not the SC though ) should be treated as an experimental tournament. If Ronny feels he is under scrutiny and pressure this will never happen. Again Imo the quest for a treble could actually hamper our development.
    LG is proving to be indispensable. We are still paying Anthony Stokes and he is still better at this time than Shift Key. One poster stated that there were certain disruptions behind the scenes but he could not break confidences. If this is indeed correct then I must draw my own conclusion.
    HH In Ronny we trust.
  13. Great to hump the Jambo’s any time, any place.
    Guid goals as well on what will always be a battlefield for Celtic teams.
    The fans will always be my men / women of the match and were last night as well.
    LG’s booking?….Why play into the mibs hands?….I know it’s not an offence to put yer thumbs up but,……(coTD67:)….ye know as soon as ye pull those hoops over yer head that, yer going onto a pitch to play to a different set of rules to all the other teams that ye’ll play….or, ye should know that!
    If, ye havent been drilled / conditioned to be paranoid enough then, the wrong folk are in the dugout.
    What has RD had to say about LG’s booking?
    Are we seeing the proof of the puppet-strings?
    Or, has RD privately booted LG’s cojones for being dumb?
    Why not run roon the goals again to the Celtic supporters?
    Some folk predicting that, Hugh Keevins will ask why we’ve lost another goal from a set-piece?
    Why shouldn’t that question be asked?
    Were Molde watching how we lost that goal?
    Or, am I being too controversial?
    Anyway….please keep winning Cetic but….nah…..laters….
    “Linford Christie, documentary on STV + 1 the now ..
    He reckons the way he could run so fast, was running away from racists at his school lol
    Gtta love the guy :)
    He just laughs about everything.”
    Or maybe he could run so fast cause he was a doper?
    “Christie tested positive for the stimulant pseudoephedrine at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but he escaped sanction after the International Olympic Committee’s disciplinary committee voted by a margin of 11 to 10.
    In 1999, Christie was found guilty of using the performance-enhancing drug nandrolone (anabolic steroid) following a doping test after an indoor meet in Germany. He was found to have more than 100 times normal levels of the metabolites of nandrolone in his urine. Various explanations were offered to explain the results, including eating avocado, or using nutritional supplements.
    The IAAF rejected that explanation and gave Christie a two-years ban from athletics, despite UK Athletics feeling that there was reasonable doubt whether the drug had been taken deliberately, a decision which ignored the usual drug testing principle of “strict liability”. Wiki
    Can see why he’s laughing right enough, if he was another nationality, say Russian or, back in the day, East German , he’d just be classified as another drugs cheat.
  15. Kevjungle
    No you are not being too controversial. it would be extremely silly if RD didn’t ask that question , never mind HK.
    Re LG,s booking. I did not see the game, instead relying on updates here. Comments ranged from his booking was “totally justified ” to a being “a disgrace.”
    HH.
    Ps: hope you are well and more power to your keyboard.
  16. After driving Celtic to victory over Hearts at Tynecastle Leigh Griffiths tweeted the worst kept secret in Scottish football: “I love scoring at that place.”
    The tie looked certain to go into extra-time after 70 fairly uneventful minutes although Celtic carried more of a threat after Tom Rogic replaced James Forrest.
    After another passing move across the pitch 30 yards from goal Griffiths decided to vary things, driving into the box past two defenders before guiding a low shot beyond Neil Alexander before picking up a yellow card for racing behind the goal to celebrate with a thumbs-up to the Hearts supporters.
    “The yellow was a bit harsh, but if you give me a goal like that and a yellow card then I’ll take it all day long,” the goal hero said.
    “I get abuse everywhere I go – here you always get stick as an ex-Hibee but the only way to shut them up is to score.”
    Eleven minutes later a similar move ended with a low driven cross into the six yard box which Rogic met perfectly with his heel to send the ball into the net.
    Delighted with the performance of his striker Ronny Deila said: “Leigh has been phenomenal. It’s confidence, good training, being professional on and off the pitch, these are important things.
    “We know he has skills and I want him to be even sharper after he scores one. After he scores he sometimes drops off. Hopefully he will go for two and three and four after he gets one.
    “I was going to take him off but suddenly he got a chance and he was not so tired after all and made the run. It was very, very good.
    “Leigh is sniffing around and waiting for those chances. Here he scored one and made one.”
    Ross County, St Johnstone and Dundee United or Hibs will join Celtic in the semi-final draw.
  17. Morning all.
    Dark and drab down here.
    Heart is singing, especially after the 2 goals we scored last night. I have been longing for a Celtic player do as Griffiths did last night and run at defenders. JF and GMS should be doing it all the time instead of turning inside. If Allan can deliver the pass inside the defender we are on a winner, big time. Actually, Bitton and Rogic are quite capable too. Maybe it’s because the forwards don”t move into space enough.
  18. TBJ says Wee Oscar Knox is in heaven with the angels on
    As much as I thought Leighs booking was gash – we now expect our players to pick up yellow cards for things like that
    Watching the second goal Leighs momentum took him into the crowd again and I well remember kris commons picking up a second yellow card at Inverness and he missed a vital game at the end of the season
  19. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on
    Good Morning,
    Very good result last night although until the intrioduction of Tom Rogic we looked pedestrian.
    Lot’s of talk recently about Celtic’s failure to develop young players from the academy. Many blame the management.
    Well, someone in that same management has to take the credit for the development of Leigh Griffiths into a very potent player for Celtic.
    His goal and his assist last night were from the top drawer. Top drawer in terms of finish, top drawer in terms of importance and the psychological impetus on team mates and opponents, top drawer in terms of determination and skill. Just top drawer all round..
    Great result.
  20. Outstanding wee man, your doubters are back under the rocks they crawled out of when we signed you, take a bow kid, take a bow.
    Leigh Griffiths had the last laugh over his former rivals, as he scored and assisted on the night to send Celtic to the semi-final of the League Cup.
    After being taunted throughout the game by the Hearts fans, the Celtic striker responded expertly by scoring the opening goal following some nice footwork inside the box and firing the ball across the body of Alexander.
    He then turned provider after a burst down the right wing before finding Tom Rogic he poked the ball home from close range. The Aussie was vital in lifting the Hoops in the second half after a lacklustre and uninspiring first half where chances were few and far between.
    Griffiths has a habit or scoring at Tynecastle against his former rivals from his Hibernian days, and stuck the dagger into the hearts of Jambo fans once again.
    Speaking after the game, as per Sky Sports Griffiths said:
    The yellow was a bit harsh, but if you give me a goal like that and a yellow card then I’ll take it all day long.
    I get abuse everywhere I go – here you always get stick as an ex-Hibee but the only way to shut them up is to score.
    The 2-1 win puts Celtic into the Scottish League Cup semi-final, where they could face Ross County, St Johnstone and either Hibernian or Dundee United. The draw for the semi-finals will take place a week on Monday (November 9, at 2.00pm) when Celtic will find out their opponents.
    Those fixtures will take place on January 30, or 31, with the final if the Scottish League Cup taking place on Sunday March 13.
    It was the first trophy Ronny Deila won as Celtic manager, and one he will be hoping to retain this season after a good team performance last night.
  22. KEV,
    LG knew fine well what he was doing.GIRU the Hearts fans.His booking was justified,and I have no problems with that whatsoever.I thought the referee gave the fairest performance I have seen in years in a Celtic match.
    If I was playing against the Huns and scored,I would probably get red carded.Some bookings are worth it.Well done LG.
    Watching big Joze last night.IMHO,I dont think he is too far away from being a perfect replacement for VVD.He is a class act on the ball,joins in the attacks like VVD used to do,and we have seen that he has an eye for goal.Really looking forward to him and Boyatta becoming our long term defence.Can only get better with more games together.You are right,the fans were brilliant last night.
  23. Great result last night I was working so missed out completely. Leigh Griffiths yellow card for going behind the goals etc, why didn’t Tom Rogic get a yellow for touching hands with the eltic support. Just an observation.
    On the subject of “other irritations” that are causing people to leave. The latest “high profile” founce was as a result of P67 presenting a yellow card for language violations. I’ve had a yellow in the past from P67 for the phrase “They don’t like it $% them!” in relation to the huns. The language on the site over the past while has much stronger than this – way too strong for what should be a convivial meeting place for fellow Tims. The blog relies on posters applying self-restraint. It makes for a much more pleasant experience. Like everyone, there are posters I find irritating. I just scroll past them. Hopefully those who have left will come back. Personally I didn’t bother with the blog for a few months – I found the aggression, name-calling and swearing extremely disappointing. I’m giving it another try and hope it improves.
  25. The Battered Bunnet on
    As far as I can see, Griffiths has 9 goals from 12 League games, 4 from 8 in Europe and last night’s rather splendid strike, his only game in the League Cup.
    That’s 14 goals from 21 games, and the sense is that he’s getting better.
    Not to get too far ahead, but a target of 25 goals for the season seems a little soft, given we’ve got 26 league matches to play, at least 3 more in Europe, plus whatever we do in the two cups.
    If he stays fit, +30 seems to be achievable.
    It’s absolutely no coincidence that his scoring touch has returned as his hair has grown in. If he manages to grow a quiff, he could be world class.
