Helsingborgs indifferent domestic form

791

Helsingborgs IF are sixth after 17 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan, seven points off Elfsborg and Malmo, who ended Scotland’s interest in the Champions League last season.  Our opponents clearly play it tight on the road, they have lost only eight goals away from home, considerably fewer than anyone else in the league (Malmo: 19), although their home goals for and against are not unusually low (scored 14 to Malmo’s 16 at home, conceded nine to Malmo’s one).

Helsingborgs have lost only three league games, fewer than anyone else.  Four draws from nine home games appears to have cost them most ground in the title race.

Celtic can expect to face a tight defence who are well versed at shutting teams out in the second leg in Glasgow where they will need the creative talents of Kris Commons with perhaps Paddy McCourt p[laying a role.  A big European-night atmosphere at Celtic Park will be invaluable.

School issue could be solved by a quick word with Ronnie’ Gasoline’ Glavin [allegedly].

Cadizzy – which Angels? Ole Melody, Symphony, Rhapsody, or the London hospital one, starring Fiona Fullerton as an improbably glamorous student nurse?

  2. A series of former school buildings have been demolished recently, including Elderpark Primary.

‘Sorry, but that building is a metal warehouse box. Worse than a tesco. To claim it was “designed” is an affront to architects. Was hoping we`d get something a bit more inspiring.’

And to build it they want to demolish a Cat B listed building.

Kind of symbolic. Pay lip service to tradition until it stands in the way of someone making a profit.

    Shameful.

    ………………..

The council made an arse of securing the building to the extent its now almost impossible to repair for a reasoinable cost. Its been flooded countless times and the wood is pretty well rotted to hell. Theres photos on the application showing that I think.

What did you expect the Club to build? A modern design classic to last for a millenia that would cost millions and millions or something that looks resonable and affordable!

The School to be honest has nothinbg to do with our tradition, it just happens to be on our door step. Now some will miss it (I still miss the railway bridge on London Rd, but the new facilities are much needed and I doubt it would be everything it could be in the oldschool buildngs and disablked facilities would be almost non-existant.

Stop trying to get angry about everything!

  4. Ipswich Town have had a bid for Celtic’s Kelvin Wilson turned down.

The Celtic centre-back was targeted by Ipswich last week but their initial bid was rejected by the Scottish Premier League champions.

The 26-year-old was left out of Celtic’s Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night at HJK Helsinki with his old club Nottingham Forest also said to be interested.

We understand Town are considering a second bid for Wilson, but that Jewell is unwilling to go much higher than his initial offer.

Wilson made 20 starts for Celtic during the 2011/12 season after signing for Nottingham Forest, where he played alongside Ipswich new boy Luke Chambers.

Speaking on Wednesday night after the pre-season win at Colchester United, Jewell revealed: “I still want to bring in a few players.

“It’s been frustrating because I know we need to strengthen. We’re a bit short of me being happy with the squad, but I’ve got to have patience and make sure those that do come in are the right ones.

“We had a couple of bids rejected over the weekend and whether we go back in for them remains to be seen. We’re working exceptionally hard to improve the squad.”

A fourth centre-back, alongside Chambers, Tommy Smith and Damien Delaney, remains a priority for the Blues boss.

weeminger- many of my views on ole modern life are odd, guilty as charged.

    Not wrong, just odd ;/)

Aesthetically I prefer sandstone to the alternatives; I’m sure with a bit of imagination the building could have been put to good use.

  6. Re MoTD Championship Scouting

I still think our success rate in the scouting area is poor.

    – the other night we had no home grown players in the starting 11 ( accepting Charlie was re-signed)

    – last year we signed around 9 players , and only two could be considered a success – big Vic and Adam M .

In saying that, I see Christophe Berra is up for grabs, probably for a zero or low fee. I wasn’t sure about him at Hertz, but after 3/4 seasons in EPL, and a few Scotland caps, he would be more than good enough for SPL and forays into Europe

  7. Fantastic Celtic.

Well done Charlie and the bhoys!!

Ref sounded like a shocker, although you often get nowt in away games, but away with a bit yourself at home, in European competition.

    Keep on keeping on.

Almost mo’ depressin’ than demolishin’ the school would be the revelation that Fiona Fullerton is somehow related to ole Billy Fullerton, #1 Hillbilly in the grand ole days of yore.

“Aesthetically I prefer sandstone to the alternatives”.

-Me too. Unfortunately though, the cost of converting the school building in that location into a functional building compliant with current building regs would be prohibitive, meaning that it would continue to deteriorate until it eventually falls down.

In with the wrecking ball…. but not before we’ve had a good look inside for the Seville money!

So the players I listed are all crap with no sell on value?

-> Did I say that? No. i was just showing why I thought that (compared to other Clubs our size – our transfer activity has been poor)

You believe Peter Lawwell picks our signings?

Deluded does not begin to describe that pash. Does Peter pick them after a night on Football Manager?

-> I believe he has a huge input. who do you think picks them?? “The Gaffer”?? It isn’t the 1980s you know. J Park doesn’t report to Neil, he reports to Lawwell. Normally in top level pro football, director of football or chief exec is heavily involved in signing targets. In the UK – more empowerment is traditionally given to the manager, but clearly Lawwell has a huge influence. This has been raised on numerous phone ins etc, with the consensus being that as Lawwell is not a ‘football man’ he shouldn’t be interfering as much in transfer targets etc. Signings are made (partly but not entirely) with a view to either selling on – or staying in the squad after neil lennon has left. They are certainly not pure Neil lennon choices.

If you are looking for a specific example – Neil Alan T and Lawwell were all out watching Maritimo on an overnight trip. prospective target Diawara played well, and scored 2 goals. 2 days later, cheaper option Mohammed bangura arrived. Do you seriously believe that Neil Lennon said that he would prefer to sign bangura?

I actually acknowledged our transfer activity is getting better – so clearly was not ridiculing the players you listed.

  14. Blackburn sign striker Colin Kazim Richards,Goodwillie on loan…? Not sure about him..

    johnnyclash,

the building has deliberately left to fall in to its present state, it has never seriously been considered for redevelopment, its always been the plan to replace it with a shed, cheapest option is always the winner on the board.

Glasgow is a city that demolished a Medieval university to make way for a railway goods yard.

The railway goods yard is long gone and now has blocks of ticky tacky flats on it which might last 50-70 years.

Some people think that’s a good thing.

  19. There was stupid me thinking Diawara did not satisfy a work permit as their club president stated and we went for the second option of Bangura who was recommended by Henrik.

Anyway, lets forget the players we have brought in the last two seasons and concentrate on Mowbray’s duds…

Is the building functional? No. Is it of an entirely unique architectural heritage. I don’t think so. Therefore I do not think it should be preserved. Were it any other way, I would be of the opposite opinion.

Nor do I think it should be replaced by a cheap box. While it may not be unique it, was clearly worthy of listed status. By that token it should be replaced by something of similar architectural status.
