Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

Dolph – why do we need to cash in? We dont – dont sell and see where the team takes us

    ………………………………………………

Gents, to some extent, this will be out of our hands. We could have a player who demands to be sold to england where he can triple his money?

I think our business model now includes top quality scouting, followed by selling a player every year or 2.

If Neil has the option of selling a midfielder in order to get the striker at the top of his list, he may very well want to do that.

A reasonable approach, I would suggest.

  3. Much as I would dearly love to see us win the league at the Death Star, it looks more likely that it’ll be all over by then. We are asolutely flying and the huns are simply imploding. It’ll still be a massive party right enough!

  4. IMPORTANT RE-POST

    AT THE REQUEST OF Paul67:

    http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/contact

The above link allows comments to be made to the Tax Payers Alliance.

Please use it to ensure the TAP are aware of the Goverment pressure for HMRC to be lenient.

My own submission to TAP indicated my disgust that the PM seemed to be suggesting football clubs were a special case. This was exactly the point the TPA spokesman on SSN on Wednesday was furious about. Effectively saying ordinary Joes pay/ordinary Joes go bust; millionnaire football clubs dont/millionnaire football clubs dont.

I also highlighted the role of the Scottish Goverment attempting to limit the amount of the tax recovery to the UK (repeat the UK) Exchequer. Given many in the South consider Scotland already gets an unfair distribution of public spending the impact of such interferrence from Holyrood can be imagined.

I don’t think the TPA & I have much in common politically but on this subject we are one.

  5. Since were talking about getting rid of players I’d personally get rid of Kelvin Wilson.

I think he’s too lackadaisical and doesn’t impose himself, how often does he get bullied by forwards.

I know Neil wanted to buy him…but what does he know ;-@

  6. Have to say, although family reasons I can’t make away games any more, if I could there is NO WAY ON GODS EARTH I would boycott ibrox.

I am looking forward to this game more than any other in my life.

I have my abacus ready, just in case……

  7. Best argument I heard yesterday?

‘It wusnae a 15 point turnaround. It wus a potential 15 points. The 15 points wurnae on the board so it wusnae a 15 point turnaround.’

This from the guy who asked me on Wednesday if he could get away early on Saturday because he ‘wus gonnae git a tikkit fur mibbe ma last time it Ibrox’

I asked him on Friday – you still wanting away early?

Nah, the tikkits wur too dear

  8. Mick

how many goals have we lost in the last few weeks..

how many since Wilson came back?

  9. Predict the date time.

We have 3 very winnable games before the Huns game = 26 points clear

    less

Huns V ICT (a), Hertz (h) and Dundee Utd (a). No way they will win all 3 IMO, say give 5 points, 2 draws and a win makes it 21 points clear at the Bigotdome.

We avoid defeat = league won officially at home V St Johnstone 31/03/12 but really at Poundland.

Unless the Hun win all 3 games or only pick up 2 points there is no way we will be allowed to go to the Bigotdome on March 25th to secure the second part of our treble.

Anyway what d**%he*d has a holiday booked for Easter???

  11. Evening all

I said a while ago about boycotting ibrox only because I feel there will be hell to pay when we win and win well we shall. But having read a post on here about leaving our bhoys to the sick racist and sectarian crap from all 4 sides, there is not a chance in hell we can leave our lads to that. Screw the money, we need to make sure all the lads can hear is our voices letting them know we will always be there through thick and thin. Maybe the h**s can learn what it’s like to really support your team!!!

    Hail hail

  12. row z \o/ (O) whatever part of my club is dependent on rangers I am willing to lose! on

We should step up to the plate to help them out at ibrokes. We should offer to take 3 stands thereby dangling a £1m note to them.

Now that would be a party!

  16. Paul,

I’ve been told ticket sales for Wednesday’s match against Dunfermline are very slow. You’ll have noticed Neil on Sky today encouraging us to turn up in force on Wednesday.

    Great day

Never realised how much joy there is in gloating.

on the pitch the 2nd goal was just fantastic…. i luv goals like that. I think tony stokes has genuine reason to feel hard done by not getting a regular start but regardless his professional attitude is top draw and a credit to him and the coaching staff

  19. Fantastic win today and our form over the past few months has got me thinking back 45 years ago to – when I was a younger Bhoy.

Not suggesting the current Team are close to the Lions – but watching this Team scoring, playing free-flowing football and the excitement in the ground takes me back to those days.

I have noticed a similar buzz recently when walking down London Road (the vehicle free zone) after a game – animated chatter, laughing, smiles, kids skipping along with their dads.

I like it – more of the same please!

Although it seems appealing to deprive RFC of £300 000+, I think their fans would take up the spaces vacated by our support. The important thing now is to show our young team that we are right behind them and that we will be right behind them, giving them the support that they need at Ibrox. In short we need to show them that primarily we support Celtic and that our secondary aim is to undermine Rangers.

Let’s go to Ibrox and cheer on the Celtic Champions!

  23. Anyone else reminded of Sutton and Larsson in 6-2 game when Hoops to Stokes to Hoops for our second goal?

Right I know Henke didn’t need big Chris he just chipped Klos but…… see where I’m going?

  24. Great performance today, strong from front to back, thought big Charlie Bhoy was excellent. Celtic

supporters don’t do boycotting, Ibroke or no, support the team.
