Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

We should be looking at bhoycotting the dunfermline away game before any other, if just to see how long they can afford to be waiving away support money.

They are writing to Gordon Smith asking that we are banned from ibroke for that game, citing “safety fears”

They don’t like it up em!

    Mwahahahahaha

  8. What’s all this about allegedly fraudulent acts allegedly discovered at the alleged Ibrox? (Is that enough to cover me legally??) There may well have been a lot more going on there than we have ever imagined.

If I was a senior Strathclyde Police officer I would be hoping that liquidation comes before the Glasgow Derby. I wouldn’t want to try to police that one, with the bankrupt (moral and financial type) huns taking on the champions or soon to be champions. There are surely serious public order considerations about the behaviour of their fans in either scenario.

You must admit he’s not very commanding or inspiring.

  11. The rank and file huns are actually writing to Duffield to have the Celtic support banned? Really?

On the grounds they can’t control themselves, presumably……

  12. Did anybody else hear the sky sports commentator today mention that

the last time Celtic won 18 domestic matches in a row was in 1966 under Jock Stein?

of course he forgot to mention that was the start of the origional and best 9 in a row!!!!

  17. For those who are in love

    There’s a song that’s warm and tender.

    For those who are oppressed

    In song you can protest.

    So liberate your minds

    And give your soul expression.

    Open up your hearts,

I’ll sing for you this song.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs

And the music of their native land

Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy

So join us hand in hand

    All across this ancient land

    Throughout the test of time

It was music that kept their spirits free

Those songs of yours and of mine

It was back in ancient times,

The bard would tell his stories

Of the heroes, of the villain,

Of the chieftains in the glen.

    Through Elizabethian time

    And Cromwellian war and fury

Put our pipers to the sword,

Killed our harpers and our bards.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs

And the music of their native land

Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy

So join us hand in hand

    All across this ancient land

    Throughout the test of time

It was music that kept their spirits free

Those songs of yours and of mine

    Ireland, land of song,

    Your music lives forever

In its valleys, in its mountains,

In its hills and in its glens.

    Our music did survive

    Through famine and oppression.

    To the generations gone,

I’ll sing for you this song.

    Goodnight and God Bless.

Yes you right with regards Paul Elliot and Mogga.

I’ll give him till the end of the season ;-)

Mind you things are changing so fast in the ol Scottish football we might get a level playing field for him to show his best?

Champions bar is now the affilition bar buddy. Its a decent size and holds couple of hundred or so. They will have at least one big screen maybe two on plus smaller tv sets

Ask to get in next home game and you can have a look round yerself

    cheers

  21. BT

Cheers for that, just wondered how it compared with being in a room full of folk doing the huddle compared to half the pub in a huff while the other half just cant get enough

  22. Does anyone think that the huns’ cheating has been restricted to the last 20 odd years.

Their recent behaviour surely is a good indicator of previous indifference to the rules. Especially without the glare of publicity that is the modern internet etc.

I don’t think it is a stretch to believe they have been rotten to the core from their foundation.

  23. I didn’t think I would be grateful to BTM for anything but the commentator reminded me today that Rogne was a Mowbray purchase. What a bargain he was. Today was the exact type of banana skin the dan and loovens would have slipped up on. I know the hibs team were poor but that effort today was one of the highlights of the last couple of seasons to me. It said so much about lennie and the squad and shoved it up the ten points brigade.

Dolph – why do we need to cash in? We dont – dont sell and see where the team takes us

    ………………………………………………

Gents, to some extent, this will be out of our hands. We could have a player who demands to be sold to england where he can triple his money?

I think our business model now includes top quality scouting, followed by selling a player every year or 2.

If Neil has the option of selling a midfielder in order to get the striker at the top of his list, he may very well want to do that.

A reasonable approach, I would suggest.

    ……………………………………………………………….

I’m not saying you’re wrong and we may find that someone wants to leave for the EPL or other major leagues in Europe. However, I was hoping that having won the League our players might recogniose the quality of the players they are playing with and might want to stick around for a try at the 1. Champions League 2. Europa League (from a position of strength).

If anyone is determined to leave and can’t be dissuaded then fair enough. However, I don’t think we should set out , as Champions, with the view that we should sell one or two of our star players so that we become financially stable. We are financially stable and I think we can look forward to a bright future so long as we don’t spend money unwisely.

Peter Lawell, Neil and his scouting team have done wonderfully well for assembling the present playing squad – an embarassment of riches. I now am beginning to forgive PL for January 2009 – although there is a long way to go yet:-)

  25. The Lennon Revolution continues apace. Ruthlessness, a winning mentality. Truly it would seem that these players would run through a brick wall for him. Number 88’s attitude is characteristic of this fortitude. Stokes always had his attitude questioned in the past, even at other teams- not anymore. It’s difficult to see how our new Pole is going to fit in with these two tearing up the final third, together with Sammi galloping off to the races.

Having said that, my player of the year so far: Chico Mulgrew.
