  1. BR is a football genius. A coach of the highest order who had us us playing the best football I’ve ever seen but completely lacking in integrity. Hh

  2. Btw it’s a complete pita trying to post on cqn now. See you on SC if you want some reasoned non-partisan Celtic chat 🍀

  3. Just watched sportscene where they say “Celtic should have had two penalties”.

Then they say ” a draw was a fair result”.

Only in this Country could would that be possible.

Shame on you Michael Stewart…I thought you had broken the mould :-(

    Big Jimmy,

It’s totally up to you what you post as long as it’s within the blogs rules.

You are correct , this blog often covers subjects other than football. E.g. I completely loathe cricket but would never dream of telling posters to refrain from discussing it.

We’re you out yesterday? Watched the game in McChuills then reluctantly went to the glorified ganghut called Grace’s. Can’t believe how busy it always is with long queues outside.

    Cheers and HH.

    WTF!

Agree on too many corporates but everyone else has to meet certain criteria so not sure who you are to say who shouldnt be getting tickets and if everyone there fell into one of the categories mentioned presumably that includes yourself?

  9. It is becoming easier to resign yourself from this CQN platform because of the difficulty of posting with ads, a rampant spellchecker and a jumping screen which leads you to open ads inadvertently (no pun intended).

There have always been spats on CQN from the earliest days but the humour and the supportive posts far outweighed this aspect and made it, overall, enjoyable. There have always been argumentative posters, and I include myself in that category, and posters who do not want their views challenged at all, so that makes for a difficult mix on a blog. And sometimes, posters (again including myself) go too far with either cutting humour or downright rudeness, in retaliation or against perceived slights.

On some blogs you get a rating of likes or dislikes; on others you just get deleted or moderated if you are critical of the host. Here, there is a liberal moderation whereby the major no-no is bad language. We all know that even if we do not always respect that, but if we fall foul of it, we know that we genuinely brought it on ourselves. I still lament the fact that we lost good posters like Sandman because of the language rules, but, fortunately, I can still read him elsewhere on the timternet.

Some people call it bullying when they have their views challenged but it rarely is. We have to be resilient enough in our confidence of our views to be able to justify them or back them up because, in real life as well as the internet, there will be challenges to them.

On serious issues, the internet is rife with unjustified rumours which lead to the subject of the rumours being targeted with death threats, or worse still, with actual violence. From Pizzagate to the Obama Birther movement to the latest doozy that Cherie Blair has smuggled ISIS Bride Begum into the UK, there are unchecked rumours swallowed by the gullible and the unsettled and vulnerable before any fact checking takes place. And then people like Jo Cox and their family suffer.

Now, unjustified slurs against Neil Lennon, Gordon Strachan, MON or Brendan Rodgers, or even fellow posters, are much less dangerous than this. At best, you get a bruised ego and, at worst, you feel impelled to take yourself away to another site or off social media altogether.

However, I have to warn everyone that the same tendencies will follow you wherever you go. There are alternative versions of CQN available on Twitter, and Facebook ( I believe) and on other platforms. There are alternative Tim sites available on e-tims, Huddleboard, Celtic Blog, Celtic Noise and Kerrydale Street, amongst others. There is the recently established Sentinel Celts, started by some good ex-CQNrs which has provided a welcome haven to some posters disaffected by their time on the original CQN. They feel more at home in their new site and they are now well past beginning to outgrow their initial tendency to use it as a site for venting about where they used to post (the ex-girlfriend syndrome).

I have friends on these alternative sites and I post irregularly on them but I do not hold out any hope that any will be free of the rancour and disagreement that they claim to find rampant on CQN. CQN, for all its faults, is not a vicious site but the sectional tendencies that we find, amongst socialists and Celtic fans alike, means that, on social media, there is a trend to drift off into echo chambers where you find your own views welcomed, approved or even just tolerated.

I think you lose something in this. The unexamined view, like the unexamined life, is a bit lazy and loose. You gain muscle and heart by being asked to consider alternative views.

So, I would plead for all blogs, to retain some sense of tension and difference of views. I have read Sentinel Celts and the other sites. They contain a similar mixture of posters as any blog possesses and they will experience over time, the same differences and disagreements that they found on here. They contain a mixture of people I like, disagree with or just don’t understand. And sometimes they are all the same poster. And sometimes that poster will be me. Or you.

This post is already too long and I have to be somewhere in an hour, so I will catch replies later.

Keep it civil but keep it robust. No pussy footing but tell it to my face on the platform I posted, rather than go behind my back to bad mouth it elsewhere.

I think I can take it. I hope that you all can too. I did not mean to offend but it is always a possibility that I have.

Saw a quote from another old Tory that Johnston would use a loophole to force no deal Brexit through. Didnt see any other comment on this but certainly wouldn’t put it past the ****.

    HH

  11. Goood morning CQN

I see the media reporting a mass player exodus from Celtic next summer

5 players out of contract, including Craig Gordon, Scott Sinclair & Jonny Hayes, plus Nir Bitton and Daniel Armani

Suppose we better panic with all those first team regulars

( I would be looking to keep Jonny & Nir)

  12. So the Hibs goal was offside and Celtic should have had 2 penalties but Hibs are acting hard done by.

    They are a bitter lot.

  13. S.F.T.B.

The champions’ gaffer, speaking to the D#### R@@@@@ explained: “Christopher wasn’t ready. He was still looking a bit off it. We felt that it was only after the window shut that we started to see the best of him.

“He did find his feet slowly but surely after that and with more game time he’s looking far more assured.

“He wasn’t ready that night against Cluj and I don’t think anyone could disagree with that.

“If we had thrown Christopher in to that game it might have killed him or dented his confidence if it hadn’t gone well for him.

  14. My friends in Celtic,

Compared to years ago this blog has been a beacon of respectability. No mad nightshift, very little sweary words and no mega controversial posters like Ryecatcher or the singing detective.

There are so many blogs and Celtic forums that have sprung up since the origination of CQN. Many of them are much easier to navigate and many can suit the narrative of an individual.

Personally I really can’t understand posters going away in a ” huff “. Its only a blog where difference of opinion is oxygen.

However my view has not changed over the many years I have been posting on here .

There are cliques, a poster hierachy and a form of poster snobbery that is very evident.

Rubbish I hear many of you say.

In response , how many posters openly admit like a badge of honour that they ignore certain posters and disrespectfully scroll by.

How many great posts from ” unfashionable ” posters drift into the sunset without a single comment. But when one of the fashionable posters re-emerge after a long absence and gives a single ” Good Morning type post ” , the blog swoons and fawns in appreciation.

This is not hindsight , this is my longstanding belief which i have had to justify many times on here over the years.

    HH to all.

  15. My only criticism of the manager from the Hibs game is the introduction of Johnny Hayes.

I would have preferred to see Sinclair on earlier and Rogic make some sort of appearance. They are some of our more effective performers against packed defences.

    Disappointed with the result yesterday.

In my opinion, not one corporate waster, csc leech or green brigade loser should receive another Celtic away game ticket ever.

Think that covers everyone there yesterday. More’s the pity.

Time to give Celtic fans some tickets.

    A pathetic support yesterday.

    ———-

    Pathetic? In what way?

I completely agree with you regarding those who were only there because they’re entitled due to their corporate season tickets. However, the fact remains that most of those in the Celtic end on Saturday had to meet certain criteria to merit their ticket.

    Good post mate.

My CQN affection has waned much as per your characterisation.

Not quite a huff here, but a growing comprehension that only a few think/feel about Celtic stuff the way I do.

No bad on them; no kudos on me. Diversity and inclusivity is good but exclusivity in many forms, less so.

I thought it’d be more collegiate & interactive on here; it’s not, so mibby some other portals are wortha look.

Ta for summarising what I’ve seen too. HH all.

  18. Just noticed

Calvin Millar also out of contract 2020 – great pity he looks to be out injured for season

So that’s now a 6 player exodus ( excluding the loan players)
