I thought the BBC coverage was very poor. Loads of uninformed commentators and very little sport.
They had Hazel Irvine and Chris Hoy talking about sailing.
The worse thing about the Olympics isn’t the number of sports, it’s the number of events per sport.
It appeared like there were 100s of Cycling events, each getting dafter than the one before.

The penny farthing event makes more sense than most of the current cycling
It’s when the guy in the motorbike comes on and then he doesn’t even get placed , is very confusing.
Some events were more like ‘it’s a knock out’ rather than real sport. Sadly many of the sports are only accessible to those with money and as a result a massive percentage of the global population are excluded.
A whole stack of the sports are also real minority sports anyway with little interest over the 4 years in between. Britain seems to have focused huge investment in these minority areas in order to boost medal hopes. Sadly for them other countries have now caught onto this and where golds were won before it was bronze and silver this time.
Think ‘Jeux Sans Frontieres’ might be nearer the mark.

To be fair this mornings marathon was one of the best marathon races I have ever watched. To finish as they did after 41.6k to go flat out for the final 800 metres or so was incredible. The winner had already ran the 5000 and 10000 metres in th past week. The 10k on Friday and she took bronze in both. A true Olympian in a real Olympic sport in my view. Albeit professional.

I loved Je sans frontiers back then.
Uncle Eddie Waring was quite a guy and did loads for his beloved rugby league. His nickname sounds a bit creepy now we know more about Stuart Hall mind you.
Sadly Stuart Hall really was a genius of a football / sports reporter and commentator. Really sad what else he was.
