Couldn’t agree more about Stuart Hall. Terrific writer, fine sports reporter…nonce.

His vignettes on the Saturday football radio show were brilliant.

  2. That was a great sport scene watch.

I preferred the other Stuart Hall

Ye know the one who required us to think….

  4. Good morning all from a soaking wet Garngad, what the he’ll happened, I went my bed and it was scorching last night and awoke to this?

Great 3 points yesterday. We slowed the 2nd half.

MJ Well you know my thoughts on the boy, he is wasting his and our time at our club.

He needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Also we are playing Russian roulette with 1 striker, unless Brendan was showing the boardwhat we have in reserve to Koyogo is dross.

Very pertinent link. Anyone who attends Parkhead must surely agree.

This will not go away and the longer we ignore it the worse it will get.

  6. We were top-class at times on a perfect playing surface yesterday and should have been four up at half time. In the second half we managed the game at a lower level and some errors crept in – however it’s difficult to be in control for ninety minutes, regardless of who you play.

Khun is now looking an equally good player as Abada and may turn out better – great business done – Abada out for c£10m and Khun in for c£3.5m. I think that he is a good reader of the game, is quick, can pass and link play and of course is starting to score good goals.

Brendan has tweaked Kyogo’s style and he now plays a Jamie Vardy-type role up front. He seems to relish a long pass and when his finishing sharpens up he will start scoring regularly again – he could/should have had five goals between Kilmarnock and Hibs – it will come!

Scales takes so much unfair criticism, but when some don’t like you they will find fault no matter what you do. He in conjunction with Ralston, Taylor and Welsh are solid squad players and all teams need that type to fit in around the so-called ‘stars’.

I expect to see three, or, four new arrivals with the same number going the other way – Oh and Lawal(c£6) are the start of that process. Even If Matt goes Celtic will not be spending BIG money in this window; actually I expect we’ll see a negative spend when the dust settles – maybe c£30m in and £20m out, including the three already signed. It is possible there may be one, or, two incoming loans around deadline day. Although we are making profit and have a healthy bank balance, the policy will not change. There are good reasons for this and all the wailing and gnashing of teeth on social media will not change it.

Mark Wilson said on Sportscene the other night, “to make a statement in the Champions League, Celtic would need to be buying £40m players and that is not going to happen”. Pat Bonner reiterated what I said a week ago about the relationship between transfer fees and wages on BBC yesterday – the fee, e.g. £8/£10m may be affordable, but the wages will not be, and anyway to pay near EPL-type wages to new recruits could seriously undermine the morale of the rest of the squad – a squad that has brought us so much success.

There are around twelve clubs from the big five leagues who will almost always make the CL last sixteen knock-out stage. That leaves four places up for grabs for others to chase. Celtic will not risk, or, mortgage its future by spending just to gamble on being one of that four every now and again – it would be a perfect example of the law of diminishing returns, could have a negative impact on our domestic well-being and is not worth it.

The Europa League is where we belong if we are looking for European glory – it’s just a pity there is no drop-down after CL qualification within the new format. Eight CL matches, two of those after Christmas, plus the riches that it brings is still a valuable and respectable prize – involvement at that level is success for us.

The EPL champion gets £150m for winning the title – Celtic gets £4m (97.5% less) for the Scottish title. The playing field in the CL is skewed for a club from Scotland and many other countries around Europe. The Super League, when it eventually happens, will be like throwing a bomb into the football pond with the smaller fish blown out of the water – they will need to regroup and reorganize. This need not be a bad outcome as the multi-billion empires continue to exert a stranglehold on all the world’s biggest clubs. I would hate for Celtic to be seized by one of these global operators.

  7. Some of our play yesterday was very slick and a joy to watch which was only spoiled by not scoring.

However the same problems remain the same. Liam Scales is a nice lad but he is just not good enough for Celtic. His positional sense and judgement is very poor and this will be exploited in the champions league.

Greg Taylor while having a decent game yesterday is too small for left back and is constantly targeted in games.

Good enough as a squad player but not first choice and finally two more centre forwards. If we get these players in and don’t lose O Riley I think we will have a good chance of getting to the knock out stages of the champions league.

    Darwin,

Good post. I agree with most of what you say.

I like Liam Scales. Apart from CCV, he is our best CB. However, Kyogo, in his current role, needs better services. Liam needs to find him with long passes at least 4 times per game.

On our recruitment strategy, overall it makes sense. However, I don’t think we need to make a profit on every single signing. We should have room for a 26-27 year old who will finish his career with us. Calum and Jamsie will retire and we run the risk not having the experience and leadership.

That said, it has been a good start to the season.

  9. It must be terrible being a Celtic Supporter and playing for them, only to hear and see that in a lot of Celtic Supporter’s you are not good enough to we’re the Hoops ,that bhoy is Mikey Johnson ,leave him alone ,3 players in our defence need competition, I’m not critical of them but the defence needs strengthen, also another striker is a priority,

Regarding the article about the state of the main stand and the facilities, and lack thereof, surely, surely? some sort of planning must have been made to look at a complete rebuild or at least extensive refurbishment? I know that there was a report from a Fans Forum, possibly from yourself, where Nicholson said that it was not viable to rebuild, does he mean at this moment or ever? I am not suggesting for a moment that the Club fund the entire project solely with cash in hand, leaving the account empty, but like every business would do so using loans. As the article pointed out eventually something radical will have to be done, hopefully in a planned way as opposed to in an emergency, like Ibrox!

  11. Celtic won the double last season the result of Brendan and his staff and CalMac rediscovering a sense of purpose at key points in the season. The purpose now should be to build and improve upon that. We have a talented coach, far more talented than the likes of Southgate and Clarke, but he still needs support. The support have committed themselves but the Board have not as yet done so. CL riches await, as do the revenue from a four match CL package which I estimate will raise at least 60,000 x £200 plus, a minimum of £12 mill.

That alone will merit another report to the London Stock Exchange. Throw in £25 mill plus for O’Reilly and it will improve the bank balance no end. Wont improve the team though.

  12. Guys,

Addressing the infrastructure issues is not an option. It is a necessity.

Eventually the South stand will fail health and safety criteria.

Currently only the fit and able can easily navigate getting to and from our ground. This is another long running saga that should be tackled.

A big of ingenuity for finance is required. Stadium naming rights etc.

    HH.

  13. Although we are making profit and have a healthy bank balance, the policy will not change. There are good reasons for this and all the wailing and gnashing of teeth on social media will not change it.

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    Oh, dear.

  14. The returnof weeron on

They don’t want to fix the south stand.

    1. Season tickets sell out automatically. No effort required. The only thing that would shrink our season ticket base is sevco dying again. Remember these 40,000 crowds? They don’t want a 70,000 seat stadium as they’d gave to work hard to keep it full.

    2. The price tag. A rebuild would probably mean going a season (or two) with about 50,000 seats. And the price tag of breaking down the current stand and building a new one.

Sad as it is. That’s the reality.
