We will never know, but we can hope that VAR would have intervened, if Hibernian’s only attempt on target in their Scottish Cup tie at Celtic Park yesterday, managed to beat Kasper Schmeichel. It came directly from a throw-in which was taken 15 yards closer to goal than the place the ball left the field, and allowed Hibs to pivot play behind the Celtic defence.
Apart from that moment, Hibs failed to lay a glove on the Celtic player with the gloves, their 15 game unbeaten run ended on the same patch of ground they last lost. The game remained tense until Adam Idah scored the second in the 92nd minute, but any nerves among the home support was based on the notion that surely the visitors could not go an entire game without producing a legitimate chance. We were wrong.
Celtic bossed the game from the off, pinning Hibs into their own half. Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate could have opened the scoring before the breakthrough. Hibs’ Cadden twins did well to subdue Jota and Nicolas Kuhn on the wings, but the visitors lost Nicky Cadden midway through the first half.
His replacement, Obida, lost Kuhn as the German drifted into the heart of the box to meet a cross from Jeffrey Schlupp. Jordan Smith in the Hibs goal could only stop the ball, leaving it hanging for the apex predator, Daizen Maeda to pounce and knock it into the net.
To their credit, Hibs kept the score tight until that late Idah goal, but they were unable to loosen Celtic’s grip on the match. David Gray was quick to refocus on league duty after the game. They have a comfortable run of games before the split which he will hope to take maximum points from.
Celtic are now the only west of Scotland team in the Scottish Cup semifinals, after Queen’s Park went down at Pittodrie. Looking forward to tonight’s draw and another visit to Hampden.

Treble Yell.
Morning bhoys – that 5 hour time difference caught me out again.
The quintessential Brendan Rodgers performance- opposition suffocated and Celtic in total control throughout.
I suspect the VAR would have viewed a throw in as a new phase in play and so would not have disallowed a goal but thankfully Kasper removed the question.
I like the look of Engels and Celtic more generally when he drops into the 6. We should do it more.
Semi finals beckon, I’ll take Livi or Saints.
Paul 67,
We have assembled a very good squad and we have the best manager in Scotland.
Continual improvement is part of the ” We never stop” mantra.
We are a Champions League team.
Domestically we may lose the odd battle, but realistically we are miles ahead both on and off tje park.

4 hour time difference in the bluegrass.
Brendan’s fault for having more balls?
Ziggydoc…from earlier. Harry Carpenter legendary boxing commentator. Today’s commentators are very poor in comparison. I can think of Barry Davies, Peter O’Sullevan (horses), Brian Moore, Kenneth Wolstenholme (they think it’s all over), Dan Maskell (tennis), Bill McLaren (rugby), David Coleman, Peter Alliss (golf)…anyone else? Richie Benaud (cricket) and of course Mr Stramash, Arthur Montford…All legends. I won’t even mention Peter Thomson and George Davidson of BBC Scotland 😊…I preferred old Archie McPherson…
Yesterday was the most uneventful game defending wise in a long time .
Thought hibs were poor in a threatening sense and I was surprised how easy we kept them out .
I would like Hearts in the semi and livi or st Johnstone in the final if it meant more chance of a ticket (providing we get there )..
Oh how a bit of sun makes everything seem better in the world .
Meeting the guys (Dena🤗) at the corner is always a pleasure and the icing on the cake…. had a quick chat with Big J (Greenlions 2) after the game , all in all a great day .

The ghosts of Celtic past , present and future ?
WEEBOBBYCOLLINS
RE Dick McTaggart 1960 Olympics:
I remember a Scots boxer Billy Fisher from that time.
Tuesday 10th
It has been a fairly normal day in my present circumstances. My weight is 59. 3 kgs. and I have no medical problems. I have seen some birthday greetings from relatives and friends in yesterday’s paper which I got today. Also I received a bag of toiletries today.
There is no priest in tonight, but the chief medical officer dropped in, took my pulse, and left. I suppose that makes him feel pretty important.
From what I have read in the newspapers I am becoming increasingly worried and wary of the fact that there could quite well be an attempt at a later date to pull the carpet from under our feet and undermine us — if not defeat this hunger-strike — with the concession bid in the form of ‘our own clothes as a right’.
This, of course, would solve nothing. But if allowed birth could, with the voice of the Catholic hierarchy, seriously damage our position. It is my opinion that under no circumstances do they wish to see the prisoners gain political status, or facilities that resemble, or afford us with the contents of, political status.
The reasons for this are many and varied, primarily motivated by the wish to see the revolutionary struggle of the people brought to an end. The criminalisation of Republican prisoners would help to furnish this end.
It is the declared wish of these people to see humane and better conditions in these Blocks. But the issue at stake is not ‘humanitarian’, nor about better or improved living conditions. It is purely political and only a political solution will solve it. This in no way makes us prisoners elite nor do we (nor have we at any time) purport to be elite.
We wish to be treated ‘not as ordinary prisoners’ for we are not criminals. We admit no crime unless, that is, the love of one’s people and country is a crime.
Would Englishmen allow Germans to occupy their nation or Frenchmen allow Dutchmen to do likewise? We Republican prisoners understand better than anyone the plight of all prisoners who are deprived of their liberty. We do not deny ordinary prisoners the benefit of anything that we gain that may improve and make easier their plight. Indeed, in the past, all prisoners have gained from the resistance of Republican jail struggles.
I recall the Fenians and Tom Clarke, who indeed were most instrumental in highlighting by their unflinching resistance the ‘terrible silent system’ in the Victorian period in English prisons. In every decade there has been ample evidence of such gains to all prisoners due to Republican prisoners’ resistance.
Unfortunately, the years, the decades, and centuries, have not seen an end to Republican resistance in English hell-holes, because the struggle in the prisons goes hand-in-hand with the continuous freedom struggle in Ireland. Many Irishmen have given their lives in pursuit of this freedom and I know that more will, myself included, until such times as that freedom is achieved.
I am still awaiting some sort of move from my cell to an empty wing and total isolation. The last strikers were ten days in the wings with the boys, before they were moved. But then they were on the no-wash protest and in filthy cells. My cell is far from clean but tolerable. The water is always cold. I can’t risk the chance of cold or ‘flu. It is six days since I’ve had a bath, perhaps longer. No matter.
Tomorrow is the eleventh day and there is a long way to go. Someone should write a poem of the tribulations of a hunger-striker. I would like to, but how could I finish it.
Caithfidh mé a dul mar tá tuirseach ag eirí ormsa.
(Translated, this reads as follows):
Must go as I’m getting tired.
Yesterday Hibs were poorly set up they had 5 at the back and 4 in midfield and all behind the ball. They didn’t press high and were constantly time wasting. Even after Celtic scored they were still time wasting.
They had decided to wait untill 75 mins to open up and have a go.They were robust and constantly fouling our players on and off the ball and I reckon the Ref failed to award us more than 10 fouls.
They had a large noisy away support behind them but their negative tactics let them down
They bottled it and did a “Hibs”
Bhoyjoebelfast…yes, Billy Fisher from Wishaw won bronze in Rome 1960. He was a light middleweight. I think he died a few years ago.
Congratulations to Yang on his call up to the South Korea squad for World Cup qualifiers
Sonny Liston came to Scotland in 1963 for an exhibition bout at Paisley Ice Rink. The main fight was Walter McGowan v Kid Solomon. I went with my dad who was a big boxing fan. We had seats near the ringside and my seat was beside the passageway. When Liston walked past us to the ring he was already wearing his sparring gloves which were more padded than fighting gloves. They looked enormous, like medicine balls size. He was a giant up close. He apparently loved the Scottish public but became a bit grumpy that night whilst skipping to James Brown’s ‘Night Train’. The crowd clapped along in (drink fuelled) time and it seemed to confuse him and he lost his timing. Announcements were made urging the crowd to desist from clapping which only made things worse and caused more out of time hand clapping. He gave up with a growl which sent the ringsiders into a chant of Cassius Clay…he was apparently a most unhappy bear…

Hi Everyone,
Hope all is well with everybody. I really don’t think in all my young time of having the pleasure to watch Celtic that I have ever come across a more unique player as Daizen Maeda. I think people do him a disservice or take many aspects of his game for granted. We talk about his speed and ability to cover ground, but he has that anticipation and timing that all good players have. He is always a step ahead in his thinking and his finishing has improved so very much . What a team player he is, and such a down to earth type of person. I think you can tell how much he enjoys playing for this team and for the manager and coaches. I hope he is with us for a long time to come because if we were watching him at some other team right now, with the way he is playing, we would not be able to afford him.
What a find.
Hail Hail
Sean
Fantastic performance and result yesterday.
So elsewhere in Europe we had a mixed bag of results regarding play-off seeding and potential opponents.
Greece is looking less good for us as Olympiakos stretched their lead further. So with it being likely they will have no more European adventures after this week 0-3 down to Bodo, they are odds on to win the league now. This will mean we now only have 2 seeded places left up for grabs and the potential champions of 5 countries could be ranked above us.
The great news is that none of the 5 who could be ranked above us are currently now top of their leagues.
In Denmark the weekend saw Copenhagen drop points for the second week in a row meaning they trail Mitdjyland by a point.
In Ukraine Thursday saw Shakhtar drop points with a draw whilst Kyiv and Oleksandriya both won. Kyiv lead by 10 points over Shakhtar who have a game in hand.
Saturday in Croatia saw Rejika drop points but yesterday Hadjuk stayed 6 clear of Zagreb by winning 2-1 while the current champions won 1-0 v 10 man Belupo.
In Austria we had Sturm Graz getting a last minute winner and 2 goals in last 15 mins to win 2-1, Austria Wien won 2-0. whilst RB Salzburg drew with Altsch. RB trail the top 2 by 8 points.
In Hungary Puskas Academia drew with our old pals Ujpest whilst Ferencvaros sneaked a 1-0 win and narrowed the gap to 2 points.
Thus none of the sides with higher co efficient than Celtic are leading in these 5 leagues. If it were to stay like this we would be seeded in the play off draw. Even if one were to come through we would still be seeded. 🤞

Great update .
Keep it up.

An Tearmann from last thread .
No, I haven’t.
I don’t think that Celtic have any power or control over cycle lanes in public roads.

You maybe right re the throw in and VAR s interpretation of what happens next, but what is to stop throw ins
being taken from wherever the player decides.
HH
We can all complain about throw ins, but a quickly taken throw in brought us some joy in a dark period in 1989, quick thinking by Big Roy:)))
Boondock saint
I don’t mean a quickly taken throw in I am talking about a 15 yard advantage.

Don’t think it was a throw in, in 1989, more likely a shy 🙃
I’ll get my coat 🏃♂️➡️🏃➡️🏃♀️➡️
I know Timforlife, but it was one of our best sneaky throw ins in our history, or shy. I hear myself shouting shy over here in America and they still look at me like WTF after 31 years.

Re Maeda: I have been watching Celtic since the 1950’s and the only player who can come anywhere near him is Steve Chalmers . A player who ran his heart out for Celtic ,could score remarkable goals ,sometimes had poor ball control, was converted from a winger to a centre forward , missed some astonishing sitters but scored the most historic goal for our club.
Hope Daizen sticks around to maybe someday score another historic goal for us.🍀
BOONDOCK from earlier, re Daizen
Agree 100%, what a find , love hi work ethic too
KINGLUBO
I have previously thought back to the season where we stopped the 10 .
Darren Jackson had a serious brain injury .
Wim moved Henrik to a more central position ,and Henrik developed into the best goalscorer that I have seen in my 61 years as a Celtic supporter .
I now wonder if Kyogo leaving will prove to be as lucky for Daizen and Celtic .

This time last week we were hoping that The Huns would have TWO very TOUGH games against Fenerbache before facing The Celts this Sunday…allied with the fact that Celtic had another free week to prepare to face the Huns.
With the Huns getting a very good result in Turkey last week ( mainly due to Fenerbache being CRAP), they will probably have another easy game this Thursday at Ipox…Unless Fenerbache perform some kind of minor miracle in the 2nd leg ?
I can only hope that Fenerbache kick the Huns aff the Park on Thursday, and give the Huns something to think about ?
A couple of INJURED Huns before Sunday would be nice JOSE…….But you would STILL be a CHEATIN FUD in the eyes of most of the Celtic support.
LOL
HH.
CARGIA LORCA,
You have just described both Stevie Chalmers and Daizen Maeda to a tee. Wouldn’t it be great if the latter did score an historic goal. Daizen might even rival the finest goalscorer it has been my privilege to watch: Joe McBride.
any statements from slo about ground entry agaist rangers with the new barriers in place ?
Good evening all from the Monday club @ the Victoria Bar. Another week of fabulous food, Cheltenham, thrashing the hun and meeting up with Aipple on St Patrick’s Day. The fun and good times never stop. 👍
Food? Football ffs.
I blame the drink and Kafflick Skools. 🙄
BRRB. Why can’t you have both?

I did. 😂

There was an evening in 1961 when a team of British amateur boxers, including Dick McTaggart, beat an American team by 10 bouts to nil. Dick McT won his lightweight fight easily but it was the last fight of the night that caused most excitement. Leading 9-0, a young guy from London’s east-end, Billy Walker, took on a giant American and knocked him out in the first round, so giving Britain a surprising 10-0 victory. Walker turned pro very soon afterwards. He was known as ‘Golden Boy’ and was a big draw and crowd pleaser, however, he never managed to win a British title.
*the yankee heavyweight was allegedly the “great white hope” a cockney put an end to that, as for Dick, he was sitting on his stool one fight with the seconds attending to him and oul harry labelled him a fervent Celtic supporter, I had my picture taken with him at the St Kessog’s Garden Fete along with big Billy and oul Ronnie who had the young boys taking penalties against him,
The 3 Ryden brothers John Tottenham, George Dundee and Hughie Bristol Rovers all from the neighbouring Renton were also there along with a young Celtic Boys Club side including George Stein who took part in a 5-a-side tournament.
