Hibs fail to lay a glove on simmering Celtic

136

We will never know, but we can hope that VAR would have intervened, if Hibernian’s only attempt on target in their Scottish Cup tie at Celtic Park yesterday, managed to beat Kasper Schmeichel.  It came directly from a throw-in which was taken 15 yards closer to goal than the place the ball left the field, and allowed Hibs to pivot play behind the Celtic defence.

Apart from that moment, Hibs failed to lay a glove on the Celtic player with the gloves, their 15 game unbeaten run ended on the same patch of ground they last lost.  The game remained tense until Adam Idah scored the second in the 92nd minute, but any nerves among the home support was based on the notion that surely the visitors could not go an entire game without producing a legitimate chance.  We were wrong.

Celtic bossed the game from the off, pinning Hibs into their own half.  Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate could have opened the scoring before the breakthrough.  Hibs’ Cadden twins did well to subdue Jota and Nicolas Kuhn on the wings, but the visitors lost Nicky Cadden midway through the first half.

His replacement, Obida, lost Kuhn as the German drifted into the heart of the box to meet a cross from Jeffrey Schlupp.  Jordan Smith in the Hibs goal could only stop the ball, leaving it hanging for the apex predator, Daizen Maeda to pounce and knock it into the net.

To their credit, Hibs kept the score tight until that late Idah goal, but they were unable to loosen Celtic’s grip on the match.  David Gray was quick to refocus on league duty after the game.  They have a comfortable run of games before the split which he will hope to take maximum points from.

Celtic are now the only west of Scotland team in the Scottish Cup semifinals, after Queen’s Park went down at Pittodrie.  Looking forward to tonight’s draw and another visit to Hampden.

Ziggydoc…from earlier. Harry Carpenter legendary boxing commentator. Today’s commentators are very poor in comparison. I can think of Barry Davies, Peter O’Sullevan (horses), Brian Moore, Kenneth Wolstenholme (they think it’s all over), Dan Maskell (tennis), Bill McLaren (rugby), David Coleman, Peter Alliss (golf)…anyone else? Richie Benaud (cricket) and of course Mr Stramash, Arthur Montford…All legends. I won’t even mention Peter Thomson and George Davidson of BBC Scotland 😊…I preferred old Archie McPherson…

I will be perfectly honest with you how could you leave out our own FAT SALARY.

An Dun earlier – agree about throw in.

Had they scored I suspect VAR would not intervene.

Despite a clear and obvious error.

And if it didn’t meet clear and obvious – to subsequent observation – we can just take throw ins wherever we like.

A simple one to get right .. and yet the ref didn’t.

Had they scored I suspect VAR would not intervene.

Despite a clear and obvious error.

i dont think they would have intervened either.

probably very few throw ins get taken from the exact place the ball went out and usually no one bothers.

but there isnt a clear rule that says exactly what yardage leeway the ref is allowed to give so i cant have see how the clear and obvious error process could apply.

we could end up disputing every goal that came from a throw in which i doubt anyone wants

  11. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

So, to the reasonable point that … there isnt a clear rule that says exactly what yardage leeway the ref is allowed to give.

    Actually there is.

    Zero yards.

  14. I see that Transfer Market, yes that doyen of pricing players, have released figures of the top 20 clubs with the highest gate receipts for last season.According to their list, being trumpeted by Ibrox News,Huns came in at number 19 in Europe, with takings of,£44.5 million, beating Dortmund who were 20th.Celtic did not make the cut, they chirp gleefully.

    Where to start ?

    ————–

it is the uefa financial report, very good benchmarking and analyics. 120 pages long, and a real deep dive on financials and ownership, and wages etc etc etc.

celtic appearing in the top 20 at number 7 for the most profitable clubs – with 19m euros but down from 46m last year, also 7th place.

it is facutally true, in the category of match day revenues and per person revenue, rangers are in 19th place, some 3m euros ish more than celtic.

reflecting games in europe to actually qualify for the league structure and higher ticketing prices in the champions eague comparison.

our 10,000 seat advantage is not reflected in cash generated as many of our season card holders are in the youth special season books.

it will be mega for the next reporting period.

in the meantime, the bears havnt worked out yet, higher pricing will come, a la leeds united model. if they ever get bought out.

  16. ps, it is not the season financials, it is the last annual report for the fiscal year, so some are 31st dec, others june 30th, etc etc.

    Can’t say I’ve missed it.

  18. Sevco shares. how can Companies House allow them to issue millions of new shares. It must amount to a fraud as you should not be able to offer shares that causes the share capital to be greater than the value of the company and its assets.

This company is a loss making company and has never made a profit, it cannot get a loan from any Bank and relies on loans from its directors. Surely it must be bankrupt as it cannot be valued as a positive and be in debt.

How can the football authorities SFA and UEFA allow this to continue

  19. The Blogger – yep, I had forgotten just how bad the scabbie carpet is at Livingston

  20. from the report, Scotland is number 1 for % of gate revenue versus total revenue.

but even so, it is now, for us , less than the other evenue streams, but we could still expand the satdium – some comments from the report.

rangers at 19th, values in euros.

New stadiums have multiplied gate revenues at Tottenham, Juventus, Atlético and Galatasaray since 2009

Stadium expansions and/or increases in premium seating and hospitality have also doubled gate revenues

at Paris Saint-Germain, FC Bayern, Liverpool and Manchester City across the 15-year period

In contrast, Chelsea and Manchester United, without major stadium changes, have dropped from 2nd and 5th to 5th and 10th

  21. Average gate yield per home match (€m)

Ranking based on yield per home match7

Celtic 23rd – 2m euros per home match.

Rngers 24th – 2m euros per home match.

    Yield per fan –

    Celtic – 44th – 35 euo per fan

    Rangers – 27th – 41 euro per fan,

they have less attendees, paying more per game, more hospitality, and more premium prices.

i am convinced celtic will redevlop for more fattus catticus attendnace.

and kids at champions league game will be priced out even more.
