Hibs hand of history, our Coefficient Monkeys deliver again

243

The Scottish Cup quarter-finals get underway tonight as Hearts and Dundee get the chance to become the first side into the semis.  Tomorrow, Queen’s Park visit Aberdeen while Livingston are home to St Johnstone on Monday evening.

Having watched Queen’s Park crumble against Scott Brown’s Ayr United on Tuesday, I don’t expect the lower league side to remain in the competition after their visit to Pittodrie.  Fellow Championship club Livingston will fancy their chances against St Johnstone.  Livi are still in contention for the title but will comfortably finish in the promotion play-off places.  They could yet have a more important couple of games against the Perth side this season.

You and I have a great cup tie to look forward to on Sunday.  Sure Celtic Park will be covered in banners of green, as so many people leave Edinburgh for a sporting event you would think the rugby was on.  Try, though the club often has, to forget it, Hibernian have a different heritage to much of Edinburgh, indeed, for their first 45 years of their existence, Leith was a town in its own right.

Hibs performances have earned them the right to feel the hand of history upon their shoulder with respect to this season’s Cup.  The last time they won a Scottish Cup tie at Celtic Park was 1902.  Unusually, this was the final and was against Celtic.  It was also the last time they won the Cup until current manager and then captain, David Gray scored the winner in the 2016 final.

When their team is on an historically good run, football fans believe in destiny.  The 7,000 in the away end on Sunday are there to inspire an historic performance out of their team.  You and I have a part to play in making sure that doesn’t happen.

Well done to our Coefficient Monkeys last night.  I have lost count of all the Champions League money they have earned us in recent seasons.  They truly are the most generous collection of ‘turn it on when it suits us’ merchants in the business.

We will bring Kyogo back in the summer for £2 million

Love the wee man but I don’t think so. Hopefully we can bring in a new young kyogo for £2m. We’ve had three truly outstanding Japanese players for the past 3+ years (bought for a snip). I doubt we’re even looking for the next one, in Japan…crazy isn’t it.

Blog always quiet when punters have nothing to moan about … people very rarely put their happy thoughts in words :-)

    Bring on the Hibees …

Am loving this Brendan … and I can assure you I was gutted when he bolted and never thought I would welcome him back … but we all make mistakes … I suppose his mistake was making a couple of million quid more for a few years then coming back … and making punters like me (us) fall back in love with the boss :-)

Hope you and your good lady have a brilliant “holiday” and a great time in ole bonny ecosse 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My daughters first time on a supporters bus the midweek Dundee game, Jota’s first game back the 6-0 game, we were 2nd row from the back in 443, brilliantly run supporters bus would only take 2 x £9 for the bus and would not take a penny for the tickets, everybody on bus hands their ST in on way home then get dished out on way to the game … said to the bus conveyor about money for tickets even into the club funds his reply “the club is fine you & your daughter are welcome anytime” … 6-0 up and two rows from the back MissGFTB wasn’t moving … she says too me .. we’re staying because we aren’t here at the other games :-)

The supporters bus runs its own try and make the ST seats are filled

    It is permanent decline

there have been almost no recent posts on SC either, so fans must be doing something else other than blogging.

  9. Good Morning and happy match day from a sunny but still chilly north Wales. Had a great couple of days at the caravan.

The blog is a bit like the attendance at Parkhead, some don’t turn up and some leave early.

Really looking forward to this one. Gutted not to be travelling over today but Tenerife on Tues back Sat night and 3am start Sunday for Sevco game. Busy week and hopefully a few nags win @ Celtenham! Slight consolation that we have the fantastic Kaitlin Tierney playing in Dundalk tonight!!

John Clarks goal at Easter Road. Big crowd that night and indeed the police locked the gates and herded Celtic fans into side streets. There were Celtic fans on the roof of a factory next to the ground but we were in the inner circle between the police herds and the ground. Kept wondering around looking for an entrance, suddenly a big door opened and a bunch of us took off. I’m sure if Daizen had been there I would have passed him. Once inside there was plenty of room (must have been the Hibs end)

But I was there when “John Clark scored a goal”

Are you sure it was ’61 as I’d be 16/17 then but drinking that bad stuff called alcohol.

VideoCelts quotes the Daily Rancid who insist…

‘Barry Ferguson is in the?Rangers hotseat until the end of the campaign on an interum basis…’

I’m guessing that will be a “get right inte-rum basis…”

All of our city covered in green.

Special game today in the Scottish Cup, with zero complacency. Celtic at home against Hibs has added significance. Over and over the Edinburgh side routinely turn up in the league, for not a lot, but today it’s our biggest home cup draw, for years.

Hibs with a goal threat is rare in these parts, Celtic with millions of wingers is normal and the talking point before this game is whether we’ll start with our embarrassment of riches in the wide areas Kuhn Maeda Jota rolls off the tongue and might be considered our best. The only certainty is that Daizen will start somewhere.

The rest of the side barring injury picks itself with Luke McCowan the only midfielder likely to threaten Brendan’s three. Before we go across town towards a toxicity free Hampden, we could have unleashed Adam Idah another good reason why the Scottish Cup’s already sitting in Paradise..

    Enjoy the match.

  18. thanks for posting that Maestro – listening now – backs up paul67’s emphasis on the recruitment model

  19. 4-2 for the hoops after extra time.

A cracker to be served up by the current form team and the champs / league leaders.

After yesterday and Scotland’s attempt to throw away the equivalent of a 5-1 lead in the final quarter I am not sure how my blood pressure will cope mind you.

This will be a huge win today if we can get it. Cup ties are not always straight forward. Eg Abereeen last season in the semi.
