Hibs, Zagreb, Atalanta’s Celtic blot

246

Hibernian arrive at Celtic Park tomorrow in the elevated status of not being bottom of the league.  Two added time equalisers against Aberdeen and a 0-3 win at Motherwell a week ago were enough to pitch them above bottom side Hearts.  Like Glasgow, relative status is more important than absolute status in Edinburgh.

After a draining top of the table clash on Wednesday, and with a game in Zagreb on Tuesday and a cup final the following weekend, Brendan Rodgers will surely rest some of his key players for this one.  Luke McCowan, Adam Idah, James Forrest and Liam Scales should all be hoping for a start.

Dinamo Zagreb are at home tonight against midtable Slaven Belupo, so have an extra day’s rest ahead of the Celtic game.  This should be a comfortable win for Dinamo, after three difficult games: a home defeat to Dortmund and two league games against the sides above them in the table.

A consequence of that run is that it has been four weeks since Dinamo scored a goal and longer still since they won a game.  Let’s hope confidence has taken a hit.

Our earlier Champions League opponents Atalanta are on an incredible run of results, winning 11 of their last 12 games, the best the Bergamo club have ever achieved.  They sit second in Serie A, a point behind Napoli, whom they beat 0-3 in Naples last month.

There is a sense in Italy that this could be their season.  The game they didn’t win during that run was, of course, home to Celtic.  Distance does not make the achievement that night seem any less impressive.

  3. The unique feeling that the 4 players Paul mentioned are not key, feel very key, is welcome at this busy time.

I thought Luke was again highly influential when he came on and James, the epitome of calm and mature with his smart and safe passing.

Took a ‘day off’ yesterday in read only mode; I didn’t meet SFTB but can see the impact he had on those who did – an impressive character by all accounts.

  7. Home game on a Saturday at 3pm is an unusually beneficial event for us.

There are arguments over which players are key and those who are just bloody brilliant.

I’d suggest we have a genuine first team squad of XVI to choose from.

Let the good times continue to roll

  11. Brendan said pre-Aberdeen that he would hesitate to put the Ross County starting eleven out again – now’s the chance and for all the same reasons as last Saturday plus the tough stormy tussle on Wednesday night.

I would ‘tweak’ a bit more – Ralston & Trusty for AJ & CCV at the back and Yang for Maeda up front…….and how about a start for Sinisalo and let Kasper put his feet up?

Sinisalo, Ralston, Trusty, Scales, Valle – McCowan, McGregor, Bernardo – Forrest, Idah, Yang.

Kasper, CCV, AJ, Taylor. Engels, Hatate, Kuhn, Kyogo, Maeda..

Twenty fit players – nine normal starters on the bench – mix & match dependent on circumstances and hopefully get out injury.free with three points as we head for Croatia – just a thought HH

  14. Celtic’s reaction to SPFL pyrotechnic charges:

“The Club has been very clear in our opposition to the unauthorised use of fireworks and pyrotechnics at matches, with their use representing a risk to supporter safety and enjoyment, and, now, to the match and match preparations. The Club will continue its efforts to seek to manage this concerning issue”.

The Chairman at the recent AGM:

“Celtic were €90,000 in fines from UEFA. This year we’ve paid €47,000 in fines so far. It’s unacceptable and it is very, very unfortunate.

Surely the SFA are responsible for policing entry into hampden

    What about personal responsibility. ?

  18. I find it very difficult to post at the moment. Im sure most of the blog feel the same. All Celtic talk seems to pale into insignificance.

However Im sure Tony would want the show to go on.

Of course the individuals are responsible- my point is, why are the clubs being fined

  20. Gene,

I agree with you.Hampden passing the buck.Celtic have no control over Hampden security.Very strange that the worst offenders at the games,Aberdeen, not mentioned. When the scum nearly burnt down Dens park, not a word. They have been dug up by Premier Sports for the delays to their tight scheduling, hence the buck passing.
