Hibs, Zagreb, Atalanta’s Celtic blot

246

Hibernian arrive at Celtic Park tomorrow in the elevated status of not being bottom of the league.  Two added time equalisers against Aberdeen and a 0-3 win at Motherwell a week ago were enough to pitch them above bottom side Hearts.  Like Glasgow, relative status is more important than absolute status in Edinburgh.

After a draining top of the table clash on Wednesday, and with a game in Zagreb on Tuesday and a cup final the following weekend, Brendan Rodgers will surely rest some of his key players for this one.  Luke McCowan, Adam Idah, James Forrest and Liam Scales should all be hoping for a start.

Dinamo Zagreb are at home tonight against midtable Slaven Belupo, so have an extra day’s rest ahead of the Celtic game.  This should be a comfortable win for Dinamo, after three difficult games: a home defeat to Dortmund and two league games against the sides above them in the table.

A consequence of that run is that it has been four weeks since Dinamo scored a goal and longer still since they won a game.  Let’s hope confidence has taken a hit.

Our earlier Champions League opponents Atalanta are on an incredible run of results, winning 11 of their last 12 games, the best the Bergamo club have ever achieved.  They sit second in Serie A, a point behind Napoli, whom they beat 0-3 in Naples last month.

There is a sense in Italy that this could be their season.  The game they didn’t win during that run was, of course, home to Celtic.  Distance does not make the achievement that night seem any less impressive.

Off topic, do you ever go to Glenties? I know your Mum is a Quinn, small doll Dad is a Sweeney.

It doesn’t matter that the pyros were on display at Hampden. Celtic were fined for pyros set off in Dortmund and Celtic have no control of that arena.

As Brendan said – We don’t need pyros. I fear that one day someone is going to be seriously harmed.

Anyway as Bada Bing said – Why aren’t Aberdeen being sanctioned for their semi-final pyros?

  5. Glasgow World, reporting that Brentford and Brighton are battling for the signing of,£3 million player,Niklas Kuhn,of Celtic, who could go for 5 times that price.

Dear God,how do they get the jobs?.

  6. Chris McLaughlin of BBC Scotland was just on the BBC Scotland evening news. He noted that BBC are banned by Celtic at todays Presser but his report failed to mention that the games on which these matches were held were League cup semis and were at Hampden under control of SPFL and SFA, The stewarding and organisation was not in the hands of the clubs.

No mention why 4th Club Aberdeen were not charged yet who also had fans with Pyro

  7. lets all do the huddle on

ive just came up with the solution to the pyro question.

we could change our official club colour from green to transparent.

that means the green brigade (renamed the transparent brigade) would have to provide pyros that emit transparent gas – air would be a suitable choice.

therefore no interruption to the game. no fines etc.

it has taken me 6 beers to come up with that solution but seems so obvious now!

Thank you so much for posting,I have replied to Martin and will let the blog know of any arrangements made.

    Hail Hail

  9. I have no problem with Pyros being banned. Its a bit rich though for the SPFL,who have watched and overseen plenty of games at Hampden, recent Hun games, when they were renting the stadium, included,to come out of the blue and issue warnings to teams. Not a cheep out of them,or the SFA regards SC games,.A warning beforehand about use of Pyros with a threat of whatever punishment entailed, would have been fine, but nothing. Not to mention the biggest offender at the last semi final,Aberdeen,is totally bizarre. The bloody pictures show the red smoke billowing all over the park.

    that solution is quite opaque

  11. I strayed onto a few jambo websites to see what they are saying about brendan and the seats empty.

incredibly some agree with him, and say its embarrasing. and the problem is ticket exchange doesnt open until all official public sale is sold out.

if you think i am obsessive about attendnaces, they have a number of dot counter reporting how many seats still to sell.

a solution has been offered that i think might work for us, but i need to digest it first.

the solution is, if you have a waiting list, SELL ALL YOUR HOME FANS CAPACITY as season tickets, and offer Ticket exchange as the only way to buy a ticket …………. interesting, thoughts ?

  12. Sell out the whole stadium to season books would allow families and friends to relocate together, and also allow Celtic to introduce another standing section, or indee the proposed celtic end request.

  13. See Dynamo Zagreb drew 1-1 at home to a side I’ve never heard of in the Croatian league.

A whole days rest more than our lot. Should shuffle the pack at home to

    Hibs tomorrow?

I think we could and still win.

Was about to post the last post on previous article from Martin Gillespie re his Dad Tony (SFTB), but see Vogue Punter has already done it.

Like many on here, I had never met him, but always thought he was very respectful of other posters and put up some cracking posts.

Really nice of Martin to check in with those kind words for CQN. 👏🙏

    Stivs

I’ll be in 101 tomorrow for Hibs game. My mates in England post them to boys in Glasgow. I’ve had tickets from Prestonpans, Coneybhoy, Norrie, An Tearmann, SFTB, Leggy, etc. Unless Celtic F.C. start a seat exchange operation the ground will never be full to capacity. What to do Higgie?

  15. What to do Higgie?

I follow those stories of celts making sure their tickets are used by other celtcs. More common in our community i think if Maspapa, BGFC and all you listed and yourself offcourse are to gp buy, we try to make sure someone gets there, it is maybe a generational thing.

the solution, having retire from my position of handsomehun finder general, under a cloud, having lost my job, having never found one,

i would like to become seat blocker general at celtic park, and go seek out those who do not attend, give them some encouragment to do so, then a sherikkin, then a polite request to move on, and let others follow on (!)

by the way much respect for spelling that the Way i like it.

  16. BRRB, i might come round and say hello.

I might even appear at the cqn corner on this sombre occasion, the emerald pimpernel

  17. No increase in away fans’ ticket allocation

Hibs are the only visitors to Tynecastle whose supporters are given the whole of the Roseburn Stand. The rest of the clubs are given a narrow strip amounting to 630 tickets and Hearts have no plans to change that. “We’ve sold all our season tickets and have a waiting list which means we can limit the away support and it’s something we’ll continue to do,” said McKinlay.

The chief executive did, however, urge the Hearts supporters to turn up in numbers. He said the recent games with Celtic and Aberdeen fell short of capacity by 5,000 and 3,000 respectively due in the main to ticket holders not turning up. There were extenuating circumstances for the first game in particular, given the snow, cancellation of public transport and unusual Saturday night kick-off slot. But McKinlay wants to see fewer empty seats in the home end.
