In an already-impressive season, Celtic’s demolition of Aberdeen at Hampden was an exceptional display. It took until the 29th minute for Kyogo to open the scoring, but the tone of the game was evident from the opening seconds. Celtic bossed the match throughout and it was only a matter of time before the goals came.
Last week we discussed that Aberdeen had not, until then, played two games in a week since July. That extra game midweek may have taken its toll, although Jimmy Thelin was having none of it, excuses were refreshingly batted away. What is clear is that Aberdeen looked like one of the poorer sides we have faced this season. Their next outing (home to Dundee on Saturday) will have added importance.
After an indifferent opening period, when he fluffed crosses and twice failed to connect with an attempt on goal, the semifinal became the Daizen Maeda Show. Hampden is big and Aberdeen made the mistake of competing against Celtic high up the field. This allowed Daizen to burst into space like no one else in our game can. Three goals and an assist was an appropriate award.
Arne Engels is another who enjoyed covering the “one neutral acre” of Glasgow. His relentless pressing and tracking back stopped Aberdeen from settling into any kind of pattern of play. His corner kicks are also proving valuable, as Cameron Carter-Vickers demonstrated with the opening goal.
The script is written for Celtic to take the final next month, but I’ve seen too many defeats to Oldco in League Cup Finals to be complacent. Celtic’s major trophy haul currently equals that of the various Rangerses (Old, New; even Berwick and Cove).
We are going to overtake their figure soon, but it would be appropriate to have them there to bear witness to the historic event.

“Maybe the ref had a 6-0 bet on.”
I had 7-1. Raging :)
Though to be fair we could have played 180 minutes and they’d struggle to get 1.
QB
Celtic were sensational on Saturday. We blew Aberdeen away. Brendan had his tactics spot on and once we got ahead then there was no stopping us. 3-0 at half time meant that we would go into Game Management mode.
This time the Game management adopted a pragmatic approach and we still were able to break forward and create chances. The 5 subs helped 2 defenders, 1 midfielder, 2 attackers meant each part of the team were energised.
I also cannot believe we only had 53% possession. The stats are wrong.
Aberdeen were not as poor as some say, just outmanoeuvered by Brendan and his coaches. They adopted a high line and with our front free being rapid, then they were outpaced and out thought.
I believe I still saw Brendan version of Angeball in the tucked in full backs, counter pressing and fast breaks. Brendan has improved the tactics of course.
Brendan’s comments after the game showed he had analysed Aberdeen after the 2-2 draw and adapted his tactics to suit. The fast breaks from the Centre circle were neutralised and their pressing was not effective.
Tuesdays game will be a different game as I am sure Leipzig will be a harder egg to crack.
The CB pairing will be interesting again, CCV just back and not had a lot of minutes, Scales and Trusty outstanding last week……..tough one….
Has an official date been announced for the cup final?
Thanks in advance
Quadboy, try that wager for the final (1957/8 Mk2).
For others discussing Celtic winning on Tuesday night, I would ask them to bear in mind what happened the last time Celtic won 6-0 on a Saturday then played a German team on the following Tuesday…
Teabhoy
15th dec 3pm
5 days after we play Zagreb
3 days after they play Spurs.
Bigbhoy (2.26pm), the Aberdeen ‘keeper accounted for 20% possession picking the ball out of his net. And Aberdeen were in possession of the ball for the entirety of the delay leading up to the belated kick off!

Thanks for the info.
Need to book time off work now 🤞
BRRB,
If and when you have any luck with your search, have right good gander about.Every chance of coming across,The Holy Grail.
In Govanhill !!!!.
Not many Celtic players that I dislike as players and as people.
Mo Johnston is one for sure. Top of the list.
Vile little runt who scored in my worst ever ibrox experience 35 years ago today. He suited them though.
I also dislike that he was involved in one of my favourite ever goals at Love St in May 86.
Don’t think there will be any head scratching about Scales or Trusty. It has to be Trusty partnering CCV.Scales has come on a ton,but Trusty has been superb settling in.Why we paid £6 million.BR will rotate,so game time for all,but I don’t think tomorrow.
Still trying to find out if Simmons,is injured for tomorrow night.Big danger to us.Any advantage godly grabbed.
Gladly,FFS.
Our 6th goal is the best team goal since PC Lustig at StJohnstone where he did a Ramona /lambada / ??
Leipzig strong running team so we’ll need to make them run round us preferably force them down our right side where we’re better defensively.
Only a fool would predict the result, so 2 early goals for us, as we’ll catch the Germans cold and we’ll run out 3-1 winners , we’ll pinch a third very late as they push up for an equaliser.

……………….
Celtic board wont comment about their fans being cheated by the corrupt David Murray era and idiiot plants like you say its none of Celtic’s business.
A Celtic with Janey the racist Ungodly vocabulary speaking fans like you are more odious than any iteration of Hundom who’ll break as many rules as they see fit. Coz its none of your business.
Red flares vs Aberdeen?
What a bunch of Christmas hampers.
Go wash your mouth out idiot. Tsk tsk.
speaking ill of the recently departed, dearie me.

Match day information
Interesting “Overtaking” R2ngers discussion earlier.
I don’t know a single Celt who recognises the legitimatecy of their trophy haul or self proclaimed WMSFC title.
But they do.
Imaginary girlfriend barb is entirely appropriate.
Adding shared titles to their tally.
Adding the hauls of two separate clubs.
They’ve rigged this particular silly little game to the hilt ….
… and we’re STILL going to overtake them.
The psychological blow will be massive.
Season after next (26/27) expect to see 5k to 10k off their home attendances.
Full moon tonight. 🌝
I want the most successful team in Scotland,to be milked to the limits.Forget what we all know happened in 2012.The deny it,and this was their bastion of supremacy.Read their Blogs. This will be like a dagger through their vile, bigoted, sectarian, black hearts.
Look at everything they held dear.Gone,or soon going.Sinn Fein ruling Ulster, was an earthquake to their bitter, sectarian, objective of Protestant supremacy. Now coming on its heels, like a Tsunami,is the downfall of their last bastion of bigotry,Rangers. They can deny 2012,but there will be no escape on December 15.
I will lap it up.
Thank you to the poster who provided link to AFC Wimbledon site.
(Apologies – can’t recall who. I opened the link at the time …. and promptly forgot about it until now !)
Beautiful sentiment.
If R2ngers had expressed similar, with the same humility?
I suspect the new club vs same club noise would have reduced massively.

I posted the link – and you’re correct their approach is diametrically opposite to r2ngers
Premier Sports Cup Final kick off now 3.30
Paul67 et al
As pointed out earlier the Hampden pitch is closer to a hectare than one acre, an area which could be ploughed in one day by a team of oxen. Funny enough pitches back in the day could sometimes resemble a ploughed field. That said we showed a variety of play not often seen in Scottish football. Of course doing something similar against the team in second place in Germany is a different scenario to doing so to the one in the SPL. We are at home though, will create chances, take some of them, so if we set up to defend against their strengths, we just might get the result we need.

Paul 67,
I must admit I quite like the ” spectacle ” that flares can achieve. So called safe pyro areas and technology must be debated.
——————-
Totally agree with all you say about the game and our performance – but I must disagree on your qualified admiration for the current pyro phenomenon.
I see no merit in anything associated with these potentially dangerous explosives. We know the profile of those who smuggle these things into stadia. They are selfishly motivated and we can be sure that they will be on the lookout for the next generation of flares to give an even more powerful and widespread display.
It will eventually be stopped but sadly it probably won’t happen until there is a death and/or serious injuries. We have seen football matches being called off due to racial hatred from the grandstands; it may well be that incidents like the one on Saturday evening could see players removed from the field and the game abandoned. Sadly the vast majority of decent fans will suffer. The nuclear option is just around the corner – one fatality at a match will trigger it. Pyros in dark crowded areas is utter madness and the sooner someone has the guts to stand up and say it the better.
HH, the journey continues

Aye, grind the facist, racist hun dratsab into the dirt. And that’s me in a good mood.
BRRB
Stop mincing your words.
Tell us what you really think of them.
Well, that’s my football high, sadly brought down to earth with a couple of things I have just read.Firstly,we are going to lose Alistair Johnston next season.
So says football guru,Frank Mc Avennie.
And he should know.
Secondly,Brigton Loyal Billy,on FF,is refusing to recognize, our trophy total,as they were all won after we conspired with the rest of Scottish football,to have Rangers relegated in 2012.
I never knew that.
See Hertz record a £1.2m lose, perhaps they should consider letting us and the huns in to fill their empty stands 🤔
Turkeybhoy
Brigton loyal Billy needs something to cling on to. The poor wee soul.
If we can find a way to win this league cup despite Beaton and Dallas and whatever else is thrown at us then I for one will celebrate more than ever.
They will be utterly devastated ….. and knowing their cherished 55 will be eclipsed and a gap of 30 plus trophies 25 years ago is down to -2 or 3 at the end of this season. All on their watch and they will see this first hand that day.
Turkeybhoy : `their vile,bigoted,sectarian,black hearts.`
When I think of the Hun support, that`s how I see them as well but when I think of the ones I know here in Arbroath, I see a very different picture. Hmm…
Another wee snippet from the uproariously funny pages of FF.Still on the Trophy count.
” No other club has ever been relegated the the bottom tier of their Leagues, for a basic,Administration Event.”
No, Portadown Bear, they have not.You would have thought some kind of appeal would have been made by Rangers against this travesty of justice.Do you ever wonder why not,Portadown Bear?.
