MIKA BAUR made history when he became the 1,000th player to represent Germany last night.
The Celtic midfielder was warmly embraced by Jurgen Klopp as he came off the substitutes’ bench in his country’s 2-0 win over Serbia in Munich to give the new boss his first victory at this level.
Klopp took over the national side following Germany’s poor performance in the World Cup Finals in the summer when they exited after a 3-2 defeat from Paraguay.

GO ON, MY SON…Mika Baur is embraced by Jurgen Klopp as the Celt prepares to go on against Serbia to make German international history.
Following a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in Amsterdam and a shock 1-0 loss to Greece in Augsburg, the former Liverpool gaffer saw a first-half goal from Tom Bischof send them on their way and Florian Wirtz made certain of three points with the killer second.
Twenty-two-year-old Baur, a £6.8million recruit from newly-promoted Bundesliga outfit SC Paderborn in the summer, made his debut appearance with 17 minutes to go as he replaced Bayern Munich’s Bischof.
As well as being the 1,000th player to be capped for Germany, the little middle-of-the-park operator is the first Celtic star to turn out for the country since right-back Andreas Hinkel 17 years ago.
Baur, who has scored in Celtic’s recent games against St Johnstone and Ferencvaros, will be in his usual midfield berth when the champions return to Premiership action against Motherwell at Fir Park a week on Sunday.
