Scott Bain leaves Celtic as one of the most decorated players in Scottish football history. Since signing in January 2018 the goalkeeper has collected 14 winners’ medals, including seven league titles. The trophies arrived at a rate of one every 5.6 first team starts, which is probably a record!
He was the player Brendan Rodgers never intended to sign. Brendan was set to bring in Trevor Carson from Motherwell that January on a four year deal, but Motherwell’s backfill (a loaner from Newcastle) went to Aberdeen instead, so ‘Well were unable to agree the deal.
Scott was brought in on a six-month loan. In an interview last year, Carson revealed that Brendan spoke to him after the deal fell through and told him Celtic would be back in for him in summer. When transfer business got underway the following June, Motherwell wanted £1m for a player who would make a total of 65 league and cup appearances for them over an indifferent four year stay.
That’s fewer than Scott made for Celtic in seven years. Celtic declined. Carson’s subsequent career suggests he was not worth that valuation. We signed Bain on a free to pick up bench duties instead.
History is fascinating because there is so much omitted. The Trevor Carson/Scott Bain goings-on is a case in point. History pivoted, but without a footnote.

Didn’t realize that.
Be interesting to see who’s No 1
Suppose it’s going to be Kasper then ?
Any news on Reo’s injury , will he be back in time for new season ?
They have invested £95m .
———
NOPE.
THEY HAVE PURCHASED A CONTROLLING SHAREHOLDING FOR SPECULATIVE RANGE REPORTED OF 60-75 MILIIION.
THAT IS NOT INVESTMENT IN ANYTHING. ITSD LIKE BUYING A PAIR OF JEANS.
AS TO THE OTHER 20M DEPNDENT ON A NEW SHARE ISSUE.
IT CANNOT BE SPENT ON PLAYERS, IT IS NOT EARNINGS FROM FOOTBALL OPERATIONS.
RS YESTERDAY AND CONTINUED TODAY, THEIR EXPERTS IGNORE E VERY FACTUAL LIMITATION ON HOW MONIES CAN BE RAISED OR SPENT.
Evening all.

Just gave it a listen.
It sounds like Celtic at Boardroom level have no interest in fan engagement.
Shame really.

Sure the yanks have done feasibility study ….. !!!
A feasibility study should be considered a failure if:
The capital cost is higher than expected
The operating cost is higher than expected
The recovered grade is lower than expected
Sales revenue is lower than expected
It takes longer to build and ramp up than expected
Initial performance cannot be sustained, though it may take several years for the failure to become evident.
Seems not 🥴🤔🤣
A headline you will not read in the SMSM, referring to them.

PSG Maeda …..my motm for Champions league final , never stoped running the whole game ….. great team player ….

You are splitting hairs ,and in denial ,because I know that you are not stupid .
Whatever you want to call it .
You don’t spend £95m and hope for the best .
They have a plan and will pursue it.
I’m more interested in how wee respond .

Recruitment team is Brendan and the guy he recruited to help and who seems to have no experience of working in any markets offering value and any international or high profile clubs. If you are very happy with that and what we have seen this past 3 windows then that is your prerogative.
I am not. We are miles away from the so called ‘player trading model’ we are told we do so well. Our squad is also much weaker. In my view. It is all about opinions and I respect that for some blaming board etc is like kicking the proverbial ….
Tiny Tim / Gene
Hope all well with you. I agree we should respect what is happening across the city and realise it is very different to what we have seen previously. I also think it won’t be anything like they think. A decent football structure without ego dominating it and not dependent on one manager will challenge how we operate over time. Given a chance anyway. That is why it is so important we get this next few windows right.
Waiting for agents punting their wares is an outdated way of working but it seems that’s where we are now and it seems most folk on here are happy with it.
Most folk also seemed not to even recognise we had an easy CL league phase draw this season. Maybe a glance at who we might play next season IF we qualify might make some realise it. I can’t see an easier bunch even if I hand picked it.
Anything remotely challenging the mantra of St Brendan is not allowed.
Tiny Tim
Specifically re Dom I do know him fairly well and like the guy but just wonder why he took so long to get a decent job after the Celtic scenario. The EPCR role was not really a proper decent job imo.
Celtic, just like any other club have made good ans bad decisions on and off the pitch. It is very clear Celtic value continuety as can be seen with much of the backroom coaches, scouts, sport scientist etc remaining in place regardless of the manager appointed. Lawel’s boy did not cut it at celtic and was let loose. If celtic was just about who you know then he would still be in place. Celtic expect a certain level of skills despite what the naysayers would have you beleive.
Celtic have won 13 out of 14 league titles, several trebles and doubles and some guys on here would have you believe we should look to copy what sevco are doing and suggert we are being outsmarted etc… from sevco, why? Cuase they get points in European footballs second teir? Yet if celtic drop into the same tournament same guys will talk about t as a disaster etc. I am sure sevco supporters would swap situations.
We have asucessful trading model that is the envy of every team in scotland. Celtic ave a structure in place that had lead to great success, i don’t think celtic should reinvent the wheel. Its more about Celtic modernising and adapt to change in the industry and from what can be seen from the outside looking in they are very much on the curve.
We have witnessed significant improvements in the facilities, services/ professionals and technologies etc. in situ at lennoxtown and barrowfield for the mans, womans and academy teams. The facilities were already very good prior to the recent investment but now they will a step up again.
Our much criticised academy has produced more professioanl players than any other in scotland and has produced by the the best players in scotland. It had helped created several club legands, led to significant sales as well as more nominal sales to help fund itself. Several youths with potential have been in and around the 1st team this season. It is up to them to grasp the opportunity.
In my honest opinion our club need to show more ambitious to completely modernise the envious around the stadium via capital investment. A club our size should have, at a bare minimum, a high spect mega club store, musem, bar, cafe, ticket office and fanzone (indoor if needs be) with more family friendly activities at the stadium.
A hotel should also be on the agenda, current capacity is 85% in glasgow, a 200 bed capacity hotel with 85% capacity at £120 per night per room is over 7 million a year, before breakfast, lunches, dinners, beverage etc is taken into account from ordinary punters before you even add the celtic brand and the possible businesss opportunities i.e., social gatherings. Capacity increase and modernisation of the south stand would not go amiss as well.
The glasgows inner eastend is gradually seeing a lot of investment and the physical changes are clesr to see. Celtic can add to that overall improvement helping to make the area a more desirable and diverse place to visit.

Good evening all from Roddy’s Bar, Glenties. Lively bank holiday Sunday. 🍻
This place is mental, apparently these new investers are gonna be everything to eveyone. If only all the other investors in sevco had figured out all they needed to do to compete with celtic was spend 20 million pounds in season one and set up a business plan to stops themselves from losing £10+ million every season. Think it may be a little more tricky than some in here are thinking it will be. Reducing spent whilst keeping quality on the pitch is awfully difficult ps they still have £20 million + debt in their accounts.
Don’t beleive for a minute we simply wait for agents to flog their players to us. However, I do beleive agents offer players to us and we have a look and if we like what we see we act. Don’t think there is a club in world football that does not do that. I am sure the club would still do their homework I.e., stats checks etc.
How anyone can say the trading model we use is not working is beyond me. Yes we have kissed a lot of frogs but we have also witness some wonderful talent at celtic park because of the model in action. A lot of those guys have left for many millions and even those who did not often saw us get back our outlay minus the wages. The truth is that despite all the analytics in the world no club is able to get it right all the time, 50% is respectable.

=================================
I may not be happy B78,i never am,Celtic are way to dynamic for that in a business strategy sense, Celtic will be working behind the scenes i bet,but to suggest our recruitment team is BR and Mr Tisdals is just plain silly bordering stupidity imo.
Just because Peters son is not part of the recruitment team does not mean that those relationships/partnerships that have synergistic in return to us and the other club has ended.
You are unhappy that our player trading model is getting more focussed on what our manager wants. The says of Shved signings and a team of loanees are gone,we need to be more cute on who is available, and available on a loan to buy,we have a lot of positives to come with God willing European champions league to play for.
The asset model continuesMoR last year £30m this year who is it Daizen? Reo? We as fans are well tuned into the coming and goings while remembering the value added comes from our 1st class coach
The perogative is to keep Celtic a dynamic and winning club

There is very little flesh on the takeover. Record churnalists have reported that the Yanks have bought a majority share at £75m which translates as 27p a share which is well in excess of the going rate. They have changed the name of the main company and have applied to change its status to a Ltd from a PLC. They have promised a share issue to raise £20m. No detail on who will buy shares, In fact no details of their future plans.
James Forrest on The Celtic Blog reckons the signs of a leveraged buyout similar to Glaziers at Man Utd is on the cards. That way the money used to buy the majority shareholding can be recovered. Then if the Glaziers pattern is continued the 5 new US Directors will take a nice chunk of Directors fees each year.
Time will tell but the Yanks will keep their intentions private. They are all USA citizens and know zilch about football and little about the Ibrox club. Deludamol is still in supply and the little information we have is that the intention is to run the new business on a sustainable level and it to make a profit. That will be difficult.
I can see little affect to Celtic in short or medium term. We are also likely to see the 2nd Champions League place gone in the next few years, therefore they will need to win the League to get access of the big bucks.
Whatever way you look at this there is little good news in what we know for the Bears.
stick to the facts mam
something called the rangers were bought from old owners.
the new owners have not invested anything.
if they follow the sports clubs ownership model.
they will win a first division championship every 10 years.
or an American bowl once every 20 years.
American sports are not about winning things.
they are merchandise and naming rights and franchise.
welcome to the
Glasgow nuggets

Good morning CQN.
Lovely sunny morning helps mitigate feelings of resignation when I read (on transfer gossip sites) about 15 and 16 year olds from other continents being scooped up by voracious European clubs
And (on here) the fear of the blue bohemeth.
Sigh.

Undoubtedly.

Among the conjecture and analysis only two absolute truths exist in this space, IMHO
1. This organisation (in its many guises) is never transparent
2. The “facts” peddled publicly (via MSM and fan cyberspace) are routinely a load of old fanny

B78- given Celtic’s record in the CL in the last 20 years,to say we had an easy group last season is laughable, we had the CL Finalist, and the EL Finalist, but any excuse to do down any achievement by our manager. The scouting ‘team of 2’ as you paint it is ridiculous, I was talking to one of the guys involved last night. How are Lawwell and Hardy getting on? Still getting wages on gardening leave? Waiting for Jim Ratcliffe or PSG to call?
On sale now along with your season ticket DD – it’s £25 for the Newcastle friendly, a shocker even by our board’s standard, hope nobody gets the gig to count the empty seats.
£100M in the bank with CL prize money now stashed.
