History is our team talk

330

Job done, we have had a week of celebration and back slapping.  Meanwhile, in Perth, a squad are playing for their livelihoods, playing to make mortgage payments and ensure they have a wage come July.

St Johnstone may be second bottom of the league, but their last defeat was four games ago, narrowly to Newco, they have beaten Hearts, and taken draws at Pittodrie and Easter Road in the last two months.  The gap to St Mirren and safety has narrowed to six points; tomorrow we face a side with momentum.

One of football’s endearing lessons to me arrived in April 2005.  We went to Ibrox and won 1-2, the mood was similar to what it is right now, as we thought we had done the difficult work.  A home game against Tony Mowbray’s Hibs was up next.

There were all sorts of rumours of what went wrong that day, but the upshot is that a poor Hibs side left Glasgow with a 1-3 win.  Celtic lost the title by a a single point three weeks later.  No one saw that outcome after the win at Ibrox.

If you think tomorrow is all about celebrating what happened on Sunday, let me dissuade you.  If we beat St Johnstone, we will have to show even greater appetite than we know they will have.  For this one, history is our team talk.

I’ve been out this morning and not had a chance to catch up with Dermot Desmond’s subtle musings. Maybe next week.

That is terrible news Ron, and I am really sorry to hear it. I can empathize, as I am minus one testicle and one kidney due to the big C, and well know the feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop every time I go in for a test. Hang in there, and ask your oncologist about any and all options including immunotherapy. All the best.

Very sorry to hear of your situation.

I had an aggressive form of prostate cancer in 2013 and it was straight into hospital to have my prostate removed. 3 months later I was given the all-clear. I was tested regularly until 4 years later it returned.

I then underwent 4 weeks of radiotherapy and 2 years of hormone therapy, after which I was tested and again given the all-clear. I get the PSA blood test every 6 months and today I am still cancer free.

I have been very lucky and all I can do is wish you all the very best and I’ll be thinking of you.

I have no doubt but you will beat this and in 2 or 3 years time we will be chatting Celtic here, that is if I survive 74 now.

For no reason at all, I’ll tell ye a wee true story of a man here in Clonmel who we buried this week.

Mans name is John Walsh, when he retired aged 65 he started running Marathons, He cycled everywhere up to his ninties, He used to cycle 96 miles to Knock Co.Mayo for an Annual Pilgrimage & back again albeit he had an overnight stop both ways. But it was 4 s consecutive 48 mile trips in 4 days from a 90 plus

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a glass bottle was thrown from the stands during the Old Firm game at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.

One man, a member of Celtic’s backroom team, was hurt in the incident during Rangers’ match against Celtic on Sunday.

He required medical treatment for his injuries.

Police Scotland said a man was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with the incident.

Police are also investigating another incident which delayed the start of the second half.

Ground staff had to remove shards from a broken glass bottle in Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart’s penalty area.

Don’t know about anyone else but I’ve a niggle regards the kid Dallas making an appearance tomorrow , this guy is card happy and useless into the bargain , if we say lose carter vickers or McGregor to a card happy mib then it would be a huge blow to us and this guy is more than capable of going down that route . Strange getting back on the stage at this s point in the season .

Anyone who has done the ole Friday night quiz before and I have, wouldn’t do it again.

You need two monitors to tally the scores. Was much fun but too much work 😵😱

  22. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

In fairly recent times, a series of audio/video stories appeared on Celtic cyberspace, describing (in fairly harrowing detail) experience of fans arrested for alleged offences under now repealed OBAF legislation.

A common police tactic appeared to be arrests at the crack of dawn on a Saturday (after courts closed on Friday afternoon).

As a result, those arrested spent the weekend in police cells until a court appearance the following Monday morning.

Question – if you are arrested and charged on a Friday morning (let’s say, purely hypothetically, for throwing a bottle at a Celtic employee) …

… is there sufficient time to secure your release from police cells before a court appearance on the Monday?

BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL

If a suspect is arrested on a Friday morning and charged, he or she will be held in police custody until a court appearance on Monday morning.

Only if the accused is arrested and charged on the Thursday would an appearance on the Friday be possible.

There is a photo doing the rounds on social media naming and shaming what is claimed to be the man who has been charged with the bottle-throwing incident at Ibrox.

This is wrong in so many ways.

A man has been charged after a glass bottle was allegedly thrown during Sunday’s Rangers vs Celtic game at Ibrox.

The object is said to have been launched within the stadium on Sunday, April 3.

Following the match, a Celtic spokesperson claimed that a member of their backroom staff was struck by a glass bottle.

The staff member is said to have required urgent medical treatment and stitches to a head wound.

Police have now confirmed a 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The force said the man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, April 11.

God only knows why Sky Sports think Ewan Murray is the go to guy for an event like the US Masters.

The man has all the personality of a cardboard box. The Guardian think he can write about football. They’re wrong. The BBC on the other hand has Eilidh Barbour….

    _____________________________________

While agreeing with your admiration for Ms Barbour, I’m pretty sure that you are getting your Murrays in a twist. One is well-respected golf commentator and ex-pro, while the other is an OK golf journalist and pathetic football writer with an overarching antipathy towards Celtic…
