MARTIN O’NEILL hopes to have the loan signing of striker Tomas Cvancara from Borussia Monchengladbach rubberstamped in time for the crucial Premiership encounter with Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.
The towering frontman is on his way to Scotland to seal a temporary switch that could become permanent in the summer, according to a report in the Daily Record.
Cvancara, capped eight times by the Czech Republic, cost £9.2million when the Bundesliga side signed him from Sparta Prague in 2023. The hitman had excelled with the Czech outfit, scoring 24 goals and 49 appearances as the team won a league title.
But his goalscoring rate dipped alarmingly with the German club where he managed just four goals in 58 outings.

SPOT ON…Czech Republic striker Tomas Cvancara slots home a penalty-kick.
A loan spell at Turkish side Antalyaspor last year didn’t help much as Cvancara claimed a mere two strikes in 13 matches.
O’Neill clearly believes the 25-year-old attack-leader will be able to regain his goal threat at Parkhead and help bolster his options with Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada his only recognised No.9s at the club at the moment.
The Irishman has until Monday February 2 to bring in new faces and it doesn’t look as though he will stop at Cvancara or Julian Araujo who has already joined on a short-term contract from Bournemouth.
