Kasper Hogh has delivered leading man vibes since his arrival in Glasow less than two weeks ago. On the lush surface of Rugby Park yesterday he became a leader on the park for Celtic. His hattrick delivered exactly what he was brought in to do: back post headers and burying a loose ball inside the box. It will not all be this straightforward, not least against LASK, but his new teammates will continue to build understanding as the season progresses.
After a poor performance last week against Dundee, Arne Engels hit top form at Kilmarnock. Transfer talks are notoriously unsettling for players, but whatever ailed Arne was put to bed from the first to last minutes yesterday.
On-field progress often requires players to be open for a pass despite being under pressure. This is what managers invariably refer to when they talk about being too passive. If you can take the ball under pressure and move it forward, you have almost certainly taken an opponent out the game and created space.
Benjamin Nygren did this throughout yesterday’s game. It was a fundamental feature of our win.
It would be a mistake to get too carried away, Kilmarnock were amateurish but still deserved to draw level early on in the game as they exposed gaps in Celtic’s defensive line. The main comfort for Neil McCann is that he is not the manager under most pressure in the league.

Great start to this season
We might still lose AJ and Engels however incoming players look hungry and they will have their own story to make. Quality over quantity is something most on here are pushing for. Hasan, Baur, maybe one or two others before the window closes.
I can see the Nygren – Høgh link up being rather spectacular this season.
Agree on Engels. Would love to see him stay one more year, though wouldn’t begrudge him a move now.
Calm heads and hot phone lines may be needed in the coming weeks
Hogh and Duran are very significant upgrades on Kenny and Yamada.
While I think we’ve been slow in getting players in, quality additions rather than cheap punts is a welcome change.

This was Killie and Neil McCann but 4-2-3-1 (if that’s what it was) and a centre forward who can come shorter and collect a pass from Sinasalo sorted our problem with a high press.
How we’ll do against a better organised and drilled team we’ll see but we have options now and a team that looks bit more comfortable when playing out from the back.
We were a bit too wide open for my liking in the first half hour, we looked a bit overrun at times, but they did commit a lot of players forward. And we did score 3. We’re still not fully fit and Killie have a few more games under their belts so a strong start from them was expected.
We look strong, sharp and happy. and played at a very good tempo The new players both look like very decent, much more to come from Duran, Hogh looks like he has a good all round game and the right sort of attitude to succeed at Celtic.
The defence looks much more assured now CCV is back and looking sharper.

Impressive performance. Shows what you can get when you invest in quality. If only our “disastrous” trophy-collecting manager had identified this, who knows where we might be?

Lot to enjoy yesterday.
However, a note or two of caution.
If we’re losing Engels and Johnston, ready made replacements must be brought in.
Also, our defence was all over the place after we scored the first. And their goal saw Killie players waltz by our defenders. That has to be worked on.
Finally, no thank you on Donovan.
Why don’t Celtic offer AJ&AE an increase of £10,000 a week to sign extension on their contracts .
£1m a year well worth it.,better than gamble on unknowns.
Before anyone calls me out ,I recognise they may have been offered an increase but just a thought

Just back from holiday and I’ve been experiencing all sorts of problems on my iPhone when trying to get onto CQN and then navigate from page to page. When I try to comment or press the number of the next page, I get a blank page with a notification in the site box at the bottom saying “account.anonymised.io”. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I’m using y iPad which is past it’s best and not great for CQN.
On yesterday’s game, I thought we were excellent after a shaky 5 minutes after we scored our first goal. I did think we made a mistake with our subs though. I would have subbed Hogh first. He had scored three and was excellent. He has been playing with Bodo/Glimt for a few months and will tire later in the year as Paul has suggested. We could have given him a half hour’s rest. I wouldn’t have taken the excellent Duran off. He could have moved inside to the striker role and I think he would have scored a few himself. However, it was a Carlsberg Sunday taking everything that happened into consideration. Very happy here.

Yesterday,Engels played without a thought in his mind about transfers.Likewise,AJ.I have a feeling they have been told,they must wait until the CL is settled.There were Scouts at the game yesterday,so they did themselves no harm..
In the meantime,we should be getting one of the midfielders in,we are allegedly chasing.In Baurs case,definitely.If GT wants to return,get him in on loan,or buy Ferrie from Dundee.Get Hassan in ASAP.Needs to be integrated into the team.This Austrian team are no mugs.Sundays team,with Hassan would be a severe test for them.

I liked GT and didn’t want him to leave.
But he did and we move on.
Taking him back would be a negative move and reinforce the belief that we are a ” boomarang ” club with poor vision.

I agree about Duran, but I also see the sense in playing Hogh for as long as possible in the team ahead of LASK.
It’s a bit new, the other players are getting used to it. We’ll face a decent, well-organised team who’ll try and stop us, the more practice we get the better

there was an excellent caller to sutton last night.
an england based Bodo supporter who has seen Hogh mant times.
He basicallly said, the hat-trick was a-typical, his power in the air with great positioning allowing crossers to easily pick him out with a flighted ball, allied with an ability to score from anywhere, be it first time or getting control and moving for a shot, the guy then said but that is not it all, his link up play is something else and was a huge facotr in their european wins against the big clubs.
Summed up, he said we havnt seen nothing yet.
So looking forward to the LASK game.
