KASPER HOGH is poised to go head to head with Erling Haaland when Denmark take on Norway in their Nations League Group D opener in Oslo this evening.
Celtic’s record £11million-plus signing from Bodo/Glimt in the summer hopes to pick up his fifth cap and add to his one goal which came in the Danes’ dramatic World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic in Prague in March.
Hogh, who made his international breakthrough against North Macedonia earlier this year, netted the extra-time equaliser to force a penalty-kick shoot-out, but his nation missed out on participating in the summer extravaganza as they lost 3-1 in the spot-kick showdown.
HEAVEN’S ABOVE…Kasper Hogh celebrates his hat-trick in Celtic’s 5-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last month.
The 25-year-old Hoops striker will be eager to get in among the goals after going seven games without a strike for Martin O’Neill’s men following his first-half hat-trick against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the second game of the season on August 9.
Haaland, whose goals helped Norway to the World Cup quarter-finals, has had no problem hitting the net in this campaign and has claimed seven in Manchester City’s first seven games.
With an astonishing 62 goals in 55 international appearances, the giant attack-leader was on the scoresheet the last time the nations met in the Danes’ 3-1 win in a friendly in 2024.
Doing his best to make sure Haaland fires blanks will be West Ham’s Mads Hermansen who is on course to replace former Celtic keeper Kasper Schmeichel following the Danish legend’s enforced retirement at the age of 39 in February.
