Hold seminars on the work of Leigh Griffiths

240

Brendan Rodgers’ words after the Kilmarnock game about there being no sentimentality in his team selection encouraged many of us to think Scott Brown would not start against Salzburg on Thursday, but even if this is the case, the captain is sure to play a key role in the game, just as he did at the League Cup Final earlier this month.

At Hampden he disrupted Aberdeen’s rhythm in the latter part of the game, ensuring they got nowhere near Scott Bain’s goal.  If we are defending a positive result late in the game against Salzburg, the same job will be required.

Sport thrives on characters like Leigh Griffiths, who joked yesterday about Ibrox stewards, who now mark the posts after Celtic visits to prevent Leigh from adorning them with a Celtic scarf.  We follow football for the game, but the game is enhanced by the personalities who play it.  Those whose job it is to sell our game should hold seminars on the work of Leigh Griffiths.

Rumour Lee Congerton has left the building…

Predicted that a while back. If Lawwell and Brendan are to remain in the building someone else has to take the fall. Congerton is the obvious sacrificial lamb.

It was a long time ago, but it was a beautiful setting, had a cracking American Indian canoe spin on the loch, so amazing that it inspired me to make one, had it for many years and then some scumbag robbed it on me.

Couldn’t agree more. Utterly baffling statement. Griffiths’ puerile pish does us no favours in the wider context.

Rangers fans are being offered a free ticket for their match against Hamilton at Ibrox on Sunday if they come along early and help raise money for the Rangers Charity Foundation.

Punters are being asked to arrive a few hours before the game and help sell limited edition pin badges, featuring a dual crest design, celebrating the unity of the Rangers family as a force for good.

All profits will go towards the Rangers Charity Foundation and the club announced earlier on Tuesday they have a limited number of tickets available for anyone who can come along and help on the day.

Quote from Rapid club spokesman Andreas Marek “Rangers have told us they expect around 8,000 fans to travel, but our information is that 10,000 Scottish fans will be in Vienna.

“We expect a big party from both sets of fans and a terrific atmosphere. Every pub in Vienna will be sold out”

    What could possibly go wrong………………..

  11. PP they should close all pubs and shops and lock up their daughters and goats.

I predict a riot…… Who will get the blame, the TV in the square, or a pub landlord or the pesky Celtic/Fenian/Scottish fans???

  14. With racism having its moment in the light of late, I emailed Show Racism the Red Card . I am sure they won`t mind me posting their reply on here:

    “Thanks for your email.

It is important for people who attend football games to report all incidents of racism to the police and the SPFL or SFA. If you attend matches and hear or see anti-irish racism, anti-catholic racism it must be reported directly to the police on 101 and the SPFL or SFA.

We will continue to educate against racism in schools, workplace and within grassroots football.

    Kind regards”

In my reply, I asked if they mentioned the Famine Song and Fenian Blood in their School visits.

  15. Prestonpans, et al:

I’ve always thought Austria to be a really peculiar nation state, trapped there in the middle of Europe: there’s no doubting it’s Germanic ethnicity. Indeed, even in Austria, such a description is pretty well accepted.

Its recent history (stretching back a couple of hundred years) tells of a nation riven with major political, economic and social change (much more so, say, than in Scotland), hugely affected by being next door to a massive nation; there are some (accent on ‘some’) parallels with Scotland.

That said, how complicated is this: with a population of close to 9 million, of whom about 90% are ethnically German, 74% of them declare (nominally at least) to be Roman Catholic.

Not only that (until 1806) Austria was part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.

Does that make them Hun Tims (or Tim Huns) … ?

  16. Guys: don’t over-think this.

It was meant as a bit of fun … no answer required: move on!

  17. Wouldn’t want to be in Vienna tonight after they get beat. 10,000 angry huns on the rampage.

Rapid’s fault for wearing green and white.

  18. RAPID VIENNA ULTRAS .

Some Rapid Ultras are in an alliance with some Ultras from Roma and Panathinaikos. They attend Rome derbies where they have organised encounters with fascist ultras from Lazio , Red Star and Golden Dawn chaps from Greece . European fitba hooliganism is a complex thing .

  19. Should add that it will, of course, only be a tiny minority that rise to the provocation and they will all have London accents.

  20. Anyone who has been to Vienna will appreciate the fact that it is absolutely steeped in Culture. It is about to be introduced to a completely new form of culture over the next couple of days.

God help those who are attending the annual Christmas Markets from all over the world. ?‍♂️?‍♀️+??=????
