Hooper and Samaras ready to rip Rangers

636

Neil Lennon was right to emphasise the importance of discipline ahead of tomorrow’s game against Rangers; there must be a high probability that 22 players will not be on the field at the end.  Beram Kayal in particular should expect tumbling Rangers players anywhere in the vicinity of his tackling.

Rangers’ squad is sufficiently thin that there was no chance they would allow the opportunity to appeal Elbows McCulloch’s red card to pass.  McCulloch is seen as part of the problem by a lot of Rangers fans, concerned at their recent malaise, but he is as experienced on these occasions as anyone who will play tomorrow.  Celtic will need to dominate him and Steven Davis if they to win the midfield battle.

It was at least three years ago Celtic Quick News prefixed McCulloch with the name ‘Elbows’.  An elbow is the face is remarkably effective at asserting dominance, something McCulloch knows too well.  It may be that the player’s overt physicality will be inhibited by his recent red card, just as team mate Shauny Aluko declined to tumble in the box when presented with the opportunity on Saturday after recently being out-ed as a diver.

Both teams will deploy unfamiliar central defensive partnerships, which will worry both Lennon and McCoist.  Rangers’ Jelavic has looked like he wants to be elsewhere in recent weeks but  it he gets an opportunity to put himself in the shop window he is likely to take it.  Winning the early battles may sap his enthusiasm.

I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve written a couple of versions of my match report already but in all of them Gary Hooper and Georgios Samaras are match winners.  If Celtic can win the midfield battle these two – hopefully Samaras from the wing – will win the points for Celtic.

I was very fortunate to get the ticket of one of the Irish bhoys who’s boat was cancelled that day, he got it round to one of his mates flying out of City Airport and I met him at Celtic Park.

Genuinely gutted for the big fella, still owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

I’ll be tracking progress of you bhoys on here. My fingers are very firmly crossed for you all.

I can only imagine the disappointment if you set out for the game at stupid o’clock and not making the game.

Cannae wait to get to the game myself and I hope each and every one of our fans gets there safely and gets home safely.

    You’re lucky.

The Lurgan lads got moved up to the 03.30 sailing.

As far as I know the 07.30′s cancelled

Are you on the windup. I’m booked on the 7.30. Have just spoken to a guy who works for Stena. There’s no word of cancellations.

  6. Folks – if some of us from Ireland do make it across but others dont – for the Scottish based tims there could be a surplus of tickets that do make it across.

Anybody else got a different feeling about this game compared to other games with the same opposition. I can’t put my finger on what is different about this game. Its almost as if this is the final game. The last battle.

We need to win. Hail hail

I just checked there mate, firstly to verify the 0330 message but also to see if there was really a Celtic supporters club in Banbridge!!!

I am still being told the 0730 ferry has not been confirmed.

Sincerely hope those who are changing to the 0330 are doing so as a precautionary measure.

Sorry for the delayed reply (isn’t it awkward when family takes you away from Celtic, even for an instant?)

I must say, I cannot fathom why anyone would suggest having Kelvin Wilson in our defence for tomorrow. Forgive me, you may know something I don’t – you may even have been to the odd training session – but nothing I have seen from kelvin since Ibrox suggests he can be trusted with that all important role in the heart of our defence.

What is it? the tattoos? Ok. Flippant, I know. I’ll attempt to go with you on this – it’s because he’s lenny’s man. Fair enough, I’ll defer to you on that. All I can go on is those limited 90 minute periods where we, the fans, glimpse our players and try to form an assessment of their capabilities. On that, Wilson has so far come up short. I won’t write him off (heck,. I wouldn’t even write Bangura off, – that’s how kind I am!) but I cannot see how he could possibly start tomorrow.

I was willing to believe Wanyama when he said he was a DM, not a CB.

However, look at the 6 or 7 games Wanyama has played defender, and the 12 or 13 games he’s played in midfield. There is a marked difference.

The man is a future Desailly.

    McCourt behind Sammi.

  15. The Honest Mistake on

Wanyama is poor at heading the ball and shouldn’t be in defense against route 1 specialists. Midfield is where he belongs.

Don’t know if I’m in the minority but I completely disagree with Wanyama. Think he is far superior in midfield than defence. In fact, I’d play K Wilson centre half just to have Victor in midfield. Win the midfield battle and we dominate the game, hopefully are centre halves don’t have too much to do.

  17. 23. The Honest Mistake

Wanyama is poor at heading the ball and shouldn’t be in defense against route 1 specialists. Midfield is where he belongs.

Why? Wanyama’s dealt extremely well with route 1 Inverness away in the 2-0 game, where Tade played LS.

  24. Big ask I know (again !) Does anyone know a CSC near or in Paradise Valley, Arizona, USA where the game will be live tomorrow ?

    Thanks and Hail Hail.

  25. St Stivs..if it means standing in the pissing rain handing out leaflets again, im beside ye, ha ha..heading to bed bhoys, just do them celtic.

  26. The Honest Cover-up

i take your point. Victor has been consistently dependable in the centre of midfield.

I just think in defence he’s been beyond anything I’ve seen so far at Celtic.

Replacing a guy like that with Wilson the tattooed man seems like folly almighty!
