HOOPS’ DOUBLE TRANSFER BLOW

CELTIC have had a £1.5million bid for midfielder Romaine Sawyers rejected by Brentford.

And another reported target, Luton Town right-back Jack Stacey, is on the brink of a £4million switch to Bournemouth.

Sawyers, 27-year-old club captain of the Griffin Park outfit, has been linked with the eight-in-a-row champions in recent weeks as Neil Lennon continues his squad rebuild.

According to news south of the border, the Hoops’ initial offer for the player has been booted out. The Parkhead men are likely to come in with a renewed bid, but it looks as though it will have to be around £2.5million mark before the Championship side will consider it.

West Brom and Stoke City are monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, the Parkhead boss will continue his search for a new No.2 to take over from Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa who quit the club at the end of their contracts in the summer.

Stacey was rated a possibility, but the defender is now being lined up for a move to Eddie Howe’s Premier League side and he is due a medical at the club tomorrow.

The newly-promoted Championship outfit previously rejected three bids for the versatile 23-year-old – voted Luton’s Young Player of the Year last season – after helping the team clinch the League One title.

Stacey, who scored four goals in 45 appearances, is set to become the second Kenilworth Road player to head for the top flight this summer with ex-Hoops gaffer Brendan Rodgers paying £8million for defender James Justin to take him to Leicester City.
