BASEL’S Swiss international right-back Silvan Widmar is on Neil Lennon’s wanted list, according to media reports.
The Celtic boss has hinted he is looking for another right-sided defender, despite the £1.6million capture of Hatem Abd Elhamed, from Hapoel Be’er Sheva, yesterday.
Allegedly, the champions have scouted nine-times capped Widmer, who cost £4.5million when he joined from Serie A outfit Udinese last summer.
The 26-year-old full-back was booked during his side’s 3-2 loss in their Champions League qualifier against PSV Eindhoven in Holland last night. Remarkably, the visitors were 2-1 ahead by the 89th minute, but were hit by two last-gasp goals.
Widmer made 41 appearances for the club last term.
Lennon still feels the Hoops are light on cover in the No.2 position after Mikael Lustig, Cristian Gamboa and Jeremy Toljan all left the club at the end of last season.
New Bhoy Abd Elhamed and Scotland Under-21 star Anthony Ralston are his only recongnised players for that berth at the moment and the Irishman wants another in place before the transfer window closes on September 2.
