HOOPS EYE DEADLINE DAY SWOOP FOR URUGUAYAN ACE

CELTIC are on the brink of a season-long loan deal for AC Milan left-back Diego Laxalt.

Neil Lennon’s search for a new No.3 has taken him to his Europa Group H opponents as he urgently requires competition to Greg Taylor.

With the 11pm transfer deadline looming, Uruguayan international defender Laxait is now on the Hoops gaffer’s radar, according to reports in Italy.

The versatile 27-year-old is an attacking full-back who can also play as a winger or in the centre of midfield.

Lennon has been unsuccessful in his pursuit of a left-sided defender ever since blundering Boli Bolingoli was packed off on loan to Turkey.

Taylor has struggled in recent weeks and was replaced near the end of yesterday’s game against St Johnstone in Perth. With the score deadlocked at 0-0, Lennon took him off to introduce skipper Scott Brown and the players were clearly galvanised by the introduction of the combative midfielder.

Fellow-substitutes Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala struck in the fading moments at McDiarmid Park to bring in three crucial points.

Lennon has looked at Spurs’ Ryan Sessegnon and Leeds United’s Bryan Douglas, but it looks as though Laxait may be the man to solve his problem position.

Charlton’s 20-year-old Alfie Doughty remains on his radar.

It’s going to be a bust deadline day for the Celtic manager.
