HOOPS HEAD FOR FIXTURE CHAOS

CELTIC are on a collision course for festive fixture chaos.

The SFA are preparing to give the green light to completing the 2019/20 Scottish Cup before the end of the year.

Scotland’s governing football body have drawn up provisional dates for the Hoops’ semi-final date with Aberdeen – originally scheduled for Easter Sunday and postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic – and Hibs v Hearts will be crammed into an already packed December schedule, according to a report in the Daily Record.

That could leave the holders having to fit in as many as TEN games – including two potential European ties – into a four-week stretch ahead of a January 2 clash at Ibrox.

The SFA are believed to be ready to confirm the plan at Tuesday’s AGM.

It is understood the Hampden hierarchy want last season’s Cup run-in completed before launching this season’s first round matches later the same month.

The early rounds are normally played out over August and September, but that schedule has been ripped up because of the lockdown restrictions.

As the fixture list currently stands, the Parkhead side will have only one free midweek in December if they qualify for the group stage of either the Champions League or Europa League.

But that date, in the third week of the month, would be wiped out a league match has to be switched for their semi final clash with the Dons. And if they reach a fourth successive Cup Final another top flight game would have to be rearranged.
