CELTIC’S Republic of Ireland Under-21 striker Jonathan Afolabi is on the brink of agreeing a season-long loan deal with Dundee.

The 20-year-old frontman, who joined the Hoops from Southampton just over a year ago, has been targeted by Dens Park boss James McPake.

Afolabi had a successful spell on loan at another Championship outfit, Dunfermline, last season and Parkhead gaffer Neil Lennon appears willing to allow him to leave on another temporary transfer to get some game-time, according to a report in the Daily Record.

The youngster is not in the first-team thought sof the the Irishman at the moment as he concentrates in finding a balance between Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala.

Leigh Griffiths is also hoping to get back into contention after making the substitutes’ bench for the 3-0 Premiership win over Hibs in Glasgow at the weekend.

The champions, though, will continue to monitor the progress of Afolabi at Dens Park if the move is pushed through ahead on Monday signing deadline.
