HOOPS TARGET RETURNS TO GREECE

CELTIC are unlikely to follow up their initial interest in Sunderland winger Charis Mavrias.

The 20-year-old Greek international looks likely to rejoin former team Panathinaikos on loan until the end of the season.

Mavrias was signed for the Wearside outfit by controversial former Celt Paolo Di Canio in 2013 during the Italian’s short stint at the club.

However, he played just 150 minutes of Premier League football last season and hasn’t featured in this campaign after being frozen out by Gus Poyet.

With three caps for the Greek senior team, as well as 37 appearances for his country at youth level, Mavrias is still highly regarded in his homeland.

His situation at Sunderland will be reviewed when he returns in the summer.

The Hoops will continue to monitor his progress, but no immediate moves are planned.
