‘HOOPS WILL RESPECT ALLOA,’ RODGERS

BRENDAN RODGERS was delighted with Celtic as they eased their way to a League Cup quarter-final tie against Alloa at Parkhead next month.
They walloped Motherwell 5-0 and even Fir Park boss Mark McGhee was forced to admit his keeper Craig Samson was the man who kept it to five.
But Rodgers was adamant his players will not treat their Division One opponents lightly when they come to the east end of Glasgow.tom-rogic-celtic-scotland_3761838
Alloa knocked out Premiership Inverness Caley Thistle to reach the last 16 and the Hoops gaffer said: “Any draw at home is welcome, of course.
“But we have to make sure we make the most of that advantage and, naturally, we will respect Alloa as our next opponents. They are in this round of the competition on merit.”
On tonight’s five-goal mauling of ‘Well, Rodgers added: “I thought we were very good. We scored five goals and we could have had more.”
The League Cup/BetFred Cup quarter-final draw in full: CELTIC v Alloa, Morton v Dundee United, Aberdeen v St Johnstone, “Rangers” (2012) v Queen of the South. The ties are due on September 20/21/22.
