Hope for Hungarians, Celtic tune-up, ploughs for Tannadice

353

Hungarian champions Ferencvaros are seed and have home advantage tonight over Sweden’s Djurgardens for the right to face Celtic in next week’s Champions League qualification second round.  Notwithstanding that, the Swedes are likely to be far more difficult opponents.

Djurgardens are 16 games into their season, whereas Ferencvaros have played only one competitive game since June.  Djurgardens also overcame stronger opposition to win their first Swedish title in 14 years than Ferencvaros faced in Hungary; there are no teams as good as Malmo in Hungary and I don’t think I have recovered from facing them five years ago tonight, so I hope home advantage favours the Hungarians.

Last night’s demolition of KR Reykjavik was far easier than I expected.  Celtic looked sharp from the off, perhaps chastised by sitting on that draw at Kilmarnock for so long, and the wave of negative publicity that subsequently came the club’s way.  KR were awful, worse than any Scottish lower-league team I can remember facing.  Though like Hamilton, they still made chances….

Still, you can only beat the team in front of you and Neil Lennon’s men did the necessary.  If Dundee United manager, Micky Mellon, was watching, he may have asked for a tractor to plough Tannadice ahead of our game there on Saturday.

  1. Hello bada,

As I said this is the duty of the sport science and coaching staff to ensure the player overcomes such issues. We are not selling a Ferrari for the price of scrap metal and because we don’t play him when he is fit. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet or he will never get match fit. Catch 22.

    Corky,

Expect its just a squall being sucked up by hurricane ellen’s need for air to fuel the pressure difference. If its sucking up all the way from Eire I wouldn’t like to be in the Caribbean when it lands.

  3. *CORRECTION #2!* (there’s also only 1 Elyounoussi!)

And the overall points table is now as follows –

    1st – McGregor and Taylor – 7 points

    3rd – Christie – 6 points

    4th – Edouard and Elyanoussi – 5 points

    7th – Barkas, Elhamed and Frimpong – 4 points

    10th – Ntcham – 3 points

    11th – Ajer – 1 point

12th – Ajeti, Bain, Bitton, Bolingoli, Brown, Dembele, Elhamed, Forrest, Jullien, Klimala

skewered by a big irn bar through your midriff and synchronised summer-salts, definitely a rare talent

  5. What is the true Barometer of a Leo Sayer?

Messi done his best but his team m8s were Brad Pitt.

    Fitba isnae an individuals game.

    Muller was insanely good.

    Ohmega team player.

  6. If we are fortunate enough to beat Ferencvaros, the 3rd round draw for the one leg tie would be critical, as at least 2 of the 5 potential opponents play on plastic.

Hope you had a good one.

A wee bit gutted if the Tam story is true. We don’t see his kind all that often and could still play a part for us. 4 mill seems far to cheap.

He’ll be remembered as outlined by many prior to this post.

    Friesdorfer,

Cheers, still in lockdown here in Kuwait but they are relaxing restrictions while the numbers of infections grow.

  9. Would be sorry to see Tom go the only one who can split a defence with a pass.

    Some great memories.

  10. Everyone is saying 10 is the holy grail but its really quite frightening what could happen at the end of this season. Edouard will definitely be away, Brown will be done as will Griffiths, Ntcham and Christie both want away. Elyonoussi will be too expensive. The big worry is McGregor wants to test himself somewhere else and the whole thing falls apart, as he is the next captain and the continuity for everything that dressing room stands for. Far too many dud projects of late like Bayo and Shved. I’m concerned the Board will do the 10 and then have license to sell the family silver. We need to build now.

Her brother made the fire surround, it might have come off a boat. I helped rub it down for the varnish – the colour of marmalade.

So the Wizard is for the off….thanks Tom for the good times and fantastic memories. When playing you were a fantastic footballer, but our fantastic club will survive.

I think if we get £4million for TR it’s a great bit of business I might even drive him to the…..uch you know what I mean.

    Has Shane Duffy signed yet???

  17. Where is Melbourne Mick???

  18. My friends in Celtic,

Tom Rogic was / is a magnificent talent, but if we reverse the situation; would we be happy signing Tom Rogic given his recent appearances and injury history. ?

I think £4 m is good business. Unfortunately.

    HH.

  19. £4m for TR is only good business if we reinvest it in the team.

Selling Rogic with no replacement in mind is not good business.

Good evening CQN from a lovely and sunny Garngad

Big Jimmy from previous thread – I am staying away from the pubs just now Jimmy, I know I’m a woose. Just being cautious but we will certainly meet up again in the future if you are still up for it. Thanks for the offer.

    ……………

I understand you wishing to be a bit cautious, but what I will say is that my Local Pub and the staff are doing a great job every day with all the cleaning etc, and trying to observe all the restrictions etc ?

What none of understand is ” Why NO Music from the Juke Box and/or the Radio as its the STAFF who control the volume, and their are hand wipes available at the Juke Box to use after pressing buttons” ?

Wee Sturgeon has got the “Music” situation all wrong…and Ive known plenty of people who tend to speak loudly whether theres music on or not ?

We all understand why there is no LIVE Music…but NO Radio and/or Juke Box…gies a break Sturgeon !

  21. IF Big Tam is for the Off…I will be very sad indeed ?

his powerful and/or placement shooting have been great, and his ability to “GLIDE” past players on a pitch sometimes reminded me of Zinedine Zindan.

I am NOT saying that Big Tam is on a par with ZZ….but BOTH of these Guys appeared to “Glide” across the pitch…Majestic, Magical…and a Joy to watch !

The Huns were terrified of Big Tam in full flow…as were other opponents.

    HH

  22. The only “Gliding” that Ive ever done was on the dance floor…or making my way gracefully to a Bar !

    Easy Peasy !

    LOL

My “Gliding” across dance floors is a distant memory.

  23. I haven’t heard Kieran Tierney’s interview but all BBC Scotland thought fit to highlight was his criticism of the Celtic support for abusing him for joining Arsenal. How much of the interview did that take up?

  24. northeast ghirl on

Read some of his comments also, big bad Peter frogmarched him to the plane and he was forced by Celtic to sign a lucrative contract with the Arsenal. We’ve had foreign players with more loyalty TR being just one of many. No time for these so called Celtic fans who think traitor has been hard done to. Good luck to him in London but hope he never darkens Celtic Park’s door again.

    KT did well for us.

He worked hard and he learned.

    He lived the dream.

Then he left and earned us a packet.

One of his kind every five years would do me nicely.

IMO, he owes us nothing and will always be welcome at CP.

    Hail hail

    Keep The Faith

  26. If james Forrest wants to improve suddenly and immensely, all he has to do is accept an offer to go to Qatar.

  27. Kieran Tierney was a smashing player and, as far as I could gather, a smashing bloke. I have zero problems with his deciding to go to Arsenal and set himself up, financially, for life.

  28. I hoped Kieran would be a Bhoy for life, I have no problems with him moving on and would welcome

    him back anytime.

The ‘burn the witch’ brigade ‘ would turn on their grannies to get noticed.

  29. Vital papers needed for the Salmond enquiry not being released. SNP top mandarin Evans stonewalling & refusing to answer crucial questions. The National Records for Scotland weekly publication of deaths in Scotland which highlight Sturgeon’s daily lie of no further Covid-related deaths, censored & moved to monthly reports from September. Aberdeen getting hammered because it’s a NO city.

SNP treating the majority in Scotland with utter disdain.

Despite all this & a bunch of phoney polls, there will be no Indyref in the next TEN years, if ever. There is no coherent economic case & SNP know it…..if there was it would be plastered on every available billboard & paid for from the extra UKGOV billions given to fight Covid.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————

That’s one way of looking at it. You could also argue that Ntcham and Eddie together would bring in a huge amount of money, McGregor and Christie leaving is just speculation and Elyanoussi still hasn’t convinced me despite some decent performances.

We have a young keeper on a decent contract, two young full-backs and two centre-backs on long contracts, a new £5m striker to settle in and most importanly a rival who have put all their eggs into the basket of stopping the ten.

If we win the league and do need a rebuild, we’ll be in a healthy position to do it. Rangers would need a rebuild ona very tight budget with a new manager.
