Hope for Hungarians, Celtic tune-up, ploughs for Tannadice

353

Hungarian champions Ferencvaros are seed and have home advantage tonight over Sweden’s Djurgardens for the right to face Celtic in next week’s Champions League qualification second round.  Notwithstanding that, the Swedes are likely to be far more difficult opponents.

Djurgardens are 16 games into their season, whereas Ferencvaros have played only one competitive game since June.  Djurgardens also overcame stronger opposition to win their first Swedish title in 14 years than Ferencvaros faced in Hungary; there are no teams as good as Malmo in Hungary and I don’t think I have recovered from facing them five years ago tonight, so I hope home advantage favours the Hungarians.

Last night’s demolition of KR Reykjavik was far easier than I expected.  Celtic looked sharp from the off, perhaps chastised by sitting on that draw at Kilmarnock for so long, and the wave of negative publicity that subsequently came the club’s way.  KR were awful, worse than any Scottish lower-league team I can remember facing.  Though like Hamilton, they still made chances….

Still, you can only beat the team in front of you and Neil Lennon’s men did the necessary.  If Dundee United manager, Micky Mellon, was watching, he may have asked for a tractor to plough Tannadice ahead of our game there on Saturday.

  1. Love KT and always will and great that he is now adored by the Arsenal support. The fact that they continue to pinch themselves that he came for only £25m grates a lot but hopefully he has helped us blow the undervalued tag once and for all when the next KT wants to move on.

  2. Good morning, friends from a dry but very breezy East Kilbride.

I had a bit of a mare last night when posting the latest POTY positions but I’ll get the quality improved on my next update following the Dundee Utd game ;-)

  3. Good morning CQN from a sunny Costa del Moray. I for one will be sad to see Tom Rogic go but as they say life goes on.

I listened to KT last night on Open Goal and to be honest if you listen to it properly he alludes that had he stayed in Scottish football for much longer his career would have been over prematurely due to the injuries. He did say he got some pretty bad (anti) social media comments from a lot of what I would term so-called Celtic fans, my words not his.

The Arsenal set-up sounds quite good with the directors taking an interest in the players and their welfare, unlike CP I’m afraid to say. He rates Sideshow Bob as a player and more importantly as an individual who is prepared to admit his failings but is also a great motivator.

Perhaps some of the contributors to this blog and (anti) social media should listen to the interview and enlighten themselves.

  4. BIG WAVY,

Listening to the interview I think the Celtic Board thought they had won a watch at £25 million for a player who was carrying a nasty chronic injury so they took the money and ran. I reckon if KT had been fully fit and injury free we would have been looking at £40 million at least.

  5. The other good news from the KT interview is he reckons that there is such a winning mentality within the squad that he believes Celtic will win the 10. He said nobody was ever allowed to talk about 10IAR because they hadn’t done 8 or 9 but now they are comfortable about it.

  6. Was a bit windy last night in locked down Kildare (virus outbreaks in meat factories) as the end of Storm Ellen hit but really hit bad in Cork/Tipp/Limerick. 150000 hoses/businesses with power down.

Big worry was all the staycationers from other counties holidaying in campsites. Not checked the news this morning so hope everyone is OK

    Tom Rogic goals

Loved the Thistle one when he hit a volley from a ball dropping behind

Also the one in the 3-2 Ibrox game. Great goal but also I was in the Celtic club in Dublin and well steamin. Great day. My Thistle mate who was over for the rugby and about to fly home, texted home to say he was a sober and a bit scared cos he was in a pub full of angry wee Coneybhoys!

Can I ask? What is a mouth breather and why does it have bad connotations?

I think I can hazard an educated guess at the answer to the first question but please explain the answer to the second. 🤣

  10. TOSB.

Yes, I’d expect your first guess to be right too.

As to your second point, all I can suggest is you picture the average hard-of-thinking corpulent currant at rest, et voila!

Vital papers needed for the Salmond enquiry not being released. SNP top mandarin Evans stonewalling & refusing to answer crucial questions. The National Records for Scotland weekly publication of deaths in Scotland which highlight Sturgeon’s daily lie of no further Covid-related deaths, censored & moved to monthly reports from September. Aberdeen getting hammered because it’s a NO city.

== such drivel.such unionist drivel.1Do you have a problem with what a jury set out?

in true unionist style your union is what matters.no insight or memory into the last time fake socialists stayed within their unionist bedfellows financial constraints.

not one advancement of the working class.under the liar

plenty of betrayal to the socialist cause

The hopes of the poor went up the same way as the curtain burner!

    We remember their betrayal==

SNP treating the majority in Scotland with utter disdain.

===yet the majority in our elections vote for them.i don’t like it but I accept it.You don’t accept it and think your one-sided memory posts will be met with a reality of what fake socialism does on the poor

I do love how fake socialism with policy in dissarray (still waiting on Murdoch’s political writers to give nod)==

Despite all this & a bunch of phoney polls, there will be no Indyref in the next TEN years, if ever. There is no coherent economic case & SNP know it…..if there was it would be plastered on every available billboard & paid for from the extra UKGOV billions given to fight Covid

    ===sorry jhb.but I am away for a laugh

The thought that fake socialism like that that left the country with no money offering financial direction and guidance makes my morning.i truly am laughing at unionism over socialism guff.laughable.you remind me of “Tommy”who used to call George Galloway

failed voices for the working class.

you keep weaponizing covid-a joy to watch fake socialism writhe in pain at their powerlessness.maybe if they had of repealed some of the antiworking class legislation that happened under Tory rule they would have kudos.but they didn’t.with Murdoch blessing all spending was within capitalist Tory confines….and things most certainly did not get better! there was no socialist victories (only in your heid)under the liar.

  14. Players come & players go but Celtic go on forever.

We survived Henrik’s departure. we survived KT we will survive Rogic & Brooney & French Eddie, when his time comes..

WE live in the now, all I’m concerned about is this season, I want a centre half (Duffy would be my preferred choice), a Left Back & maybe Turnbull if Rogic goes.

I think it is essential we hold on to French Eddie this season, I also want Ntcham to stay.

I could live with Ajer leaving if we got top money & a replacement.

I think the team could well break up next season but I’ll worry about that next season.

Wholeheartedly agree. I think these trolls just may have an agenda :-)

  17. For those persisting in describing Tom Rogic as a “sicknote” whose wages we pay for no return or a deteriorating return, I will re-post his appearances for us:-

    2015/16- 39

    2016/17- 36

    2017/18- 42

    2018/19- 35

2019-20- 22 (in a truncated season- pro rata this would be close to 30+ again)

This is not soeone we rarely see. We should not be expecting every squad member to be matching the excessive annual appearance stats of a Calmac, Broony or goalie

  18. I heard a more plausible story re Rogic than the “heaading for semi-retirement in Qatar” rumour.

It is now being suggested that he is under consideration for a swap deal with Brighton for Shane Duffy. He would be joining two fellow Aussie internationalists there, Mooy and Ryan, and he would be pleasing his coach with a move to the EPL whch the Oz coaches are always banging on about, as being better for him.

If that was true- what is the exchange rate?

    1) Straight swap?

    2) Duffy plus money for Rogic

or 3) Rogic plus money for Duffy.

I would be looking at 2 but might accept 1

Surely not everyone who posts an alternative view to your own or others is necessarily a troll.

There’s all sorts of political guff posted on here. I’ve even known to post some myself. 🤭

  20. Still in shock over the TR story — no surprise that we are trying to sell our way to glory but still a shock to realise that TR is for the off.

Huge player who gave us lots of memories.

However there will always be the issue that he was not fully appreciated and you can double that with NL in charge.

In conttrast all the KT chat is just that — background noise.

Never got the superfan chat and after the intrigues of the summer of 2018 he was always going to go.

Biggest “riddy” for the club is that he will get better support and coaching down there and he will push on playing with better players.

You really have to ask about the standards we are working too at CP at the moment?

If your status in the dressing room is down to how little you wear on the training pitch in December then we really are in a bad place.

One issue where there may be is a link is KT’s first few months down south where there seems to have been a concerted effort to get rid of all his niggles and get him fully fit — he was on a downward slope over his last 12 months at CP.

If TR could be given similar support then I think you would see a huge improvement in his performances — the 2018 WC efforts seemed to have ruined him and we never seemed to get him back up to speed.

Oh well at least we have the memories.

Oh and KT — next time you have an interview take your ma.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion ‘re Tierney, however guaranteed if he was a foreigner he have been a money grabber who used Celtic as a stepping stone. Donut sign a 6 yr contract, say you could stay your whole career, kiss the b advertising and then do one as soon as pounds sign flash before your eyes. He earned more in a week with us than your average guy earns in a year so cane and won’t hold him up as some paragon of virtue.
