Hopefully the Low trickledown will not reach Glasgow

391

With the announcement that Joachim Low will leave Germany after the Euros, you can prepare yourself for months of speculation about the position of Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool job, with trickledown references to Steven Gerrard.  I want Gerrard to stay in Glasgow.

This is not about getting back into the water after a shark bite.  Gerrard has won one trophy of the eight he has competed for in Scotland, reaching one final in five cup competitions, which he lost to 10 men.  His only success would have been achieved with the same squad by either of his two predecessors against Celtic and Aberdeen teams that imploded so completely both lost their managers.  Gerrard is a bottler who has not been under pressure since Hamilton visited Ibrox a year ago (a game he also lost).

More importantly, Newco will have him under the kind of contract that earned Celtic £9m when Brendan Rodgers left for Leicester.  They need that kind of money and more to make up some of the chasm between their current financial position and fulfilling Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.

I would rather they needed to sell an additional £9m of playing talent than cashed in on a manager with a track record that would have him taxied to the airport at Celtic.  Celtic’s problems this season are CELTIC’s problems, not the challenge from across the city.  If we are worried about a one-in-eight manager it’s time to pick up a different sport.

HH to you also hi Squire

SD.The Bigot/Blue Pound is the two in the bush which our custodians have gambled our core support-income on.

AT – Sorry SD what exactly does that mean? i wisnae good at riddles:-)

SDThey have gambled that we will put up with their antics of keeping that mob alive as a means of ensuring the maintenance of the business model.

AT.How did Celtic keep ‘that mob alive’?

the inverse being they owe us their recreation?

SDOf course when the top tier gets closed behind both goals after we lose 20k STs this summer then they’ve backed a loser

well if we flick back to top tier being shut just pre BR the business model wasnt working, crowds dropped off, however

the business model was recaliberated and that changed.you agree with that am sure.

  2. In another few days the trashing of George Sq will be wiped from history. It never happened, just like the sacking of Manchester and other cities, Barry and Allan’s lifetime ban, liquidation and the covid breaches etc etc.

Your thoughts actually chime with that of Mr Park of Sevco fame……in his statement to the ‘wee fish’ today he asks why they have yet to receive a response to an email sent in December asking why Sevco were name checked when she was being asked to respond to the gatherings by Celtic fans at Celtic Park at that time.

So whilst we do not agree always with our Sevco brethern, they definitely like to mount a stout defence of their club both publicly and privately. Wonder how many times Peter Lawell wrote same to her.

I drive past the greggs at George square every day. I can’t stop to take a picture but they have a new sign on their wall from Sunday in blue spray paint.

  5. I was sent this piece by a friend earlier today .

It mirrored my views on our last 10 seasons.

I was, mercifully, off work yesterday but found myself writing a near 5000 word essay comparing the 2 9-I-A-R eras. Verbose as ever I think only the last paragraph is much cop. It reads:

I am obviously glad that Celtic won 9 league titles in a row for the second time in my lifetime- there were some genuinely happy times in there. If you set the bar low, as Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond largely did, then you will consider those 9 years to be amongst the best in Celtic’s history. If all you want to do in life is to be better than Rangers then they were a roaring success even if, by aiming so low, you end up not being as good as them.  But if like me you grew up when Celtic measured themselves against the best Europe had to offer- which included Rangers at times- then these last nine years were a time when all Celtic mostly did was beat teams they should beat 9 times out of ten at the very least anyway. People still talk about matches where we beat Europe’s best teams more than 50 years after they were played-but how many games from the last 9 years will still be being talked about in 2071? One.

Operation Short Head is the determination of our board to keep the product interesting by attempting to do just enough and – to use the horse racing analogy – win by a short head.

I think it’s commonly agreed that the financial advantage we have had over the past 10 years has been such that we should have kicked on and set our standards higher with regard to Europe

Winning the SPL by 30 points every season is bad for our business model and certainly bad for our absentee EPL fanboy landlord who sees us and the G51 mob joining the EPL as a happy couple.

  10. Great statement from Celtic Twitter account.

But why not make a real statement to the press.

    Not my intention at all.

Sevco statements go on longer than the Rubaiyat, always blame someone else and always look for a square go.

It really is a joke. At our expense

After the George Sq. debacle,we need to ensure our fans are well away from any situation which would implicate them in a similar scenario.

I have read the possibility of the Derby game being cancelled, perhaps our Board, having been outsmarted all year, should try and take the initiative by pushing the Safety/Covid angle back to the Govt. and SPFL on the basis that recent situations are seen not to be controllable by Police and as such in the interests of Safety of our Premises, staff and supporters we do not want the game to go ahead. Keep your 3 points.

That would create a bit of fun with the TV Contracts, but for such a laudable reason who would oppose.

We should stop playing as if we have any friends here,we dont.

  16. Why do we hire buses from Park?

It is all cosy business and a;other example of the Board being adrift from the fans.

  17. To me that’s when you know that no one in our hierarchy have the appetite for a fight.

You could walk all over sevco’s Covid response for the whole season.

Obviously if you canny tell them the died in 2012 and it’s your 1st title you’re a shitebag.😂 no seriously there is no one in our board up to the challenge.
