Hopes for Arne

310

Arne Engels’ physical stature belies his age.  Still 21, he is already a winner at Celtic and full Belgian international.  21 is the age Callum McGregor was when he made his (scoring) Celtic debut.  Callum was a year older when he first moved into the middle of the park from the wing.  The captain is likely to end his career as the most honoured player is our history, but we needed patience to see him grow into the player he became.

At the same age, Reo Hatate was still at university.  He had made 62 appearances for Kawasaki Frontale (who get an interesting amount of column inches on CQN these days), when he moved to Celtic as a 24-year-old.  Aaron Mooy went below the radar at St Mirren at 21!

Young Reo was studying at 21, we probably saw Aaron at the same age and didn’t notice him, and we watched enough of Callum at this age to know the scale of development between 21 and 24 is enormous.

I like what we’ve seen so far from Arne and have big hopes he will continue to kick on during the season ahead.

  1. In the sales of Kuhn and Kyogo, 40 goals have just left our team.

Brendan is quite right to highlight the need to replace these goals – I don’t see Yang, Osmond, or James Forrest filling this void.

I’m sure he has other targets but prioritising attack seems reasonable to me.

  2. HORSE RACING YESTERDAY…

Saturday was a bit of a let down for me Betting wise, as I only had TWO Winners at NEWMARKET.

The Two winners were at odds of 8/1 and 13/2 ( EARLY PRICES) out of the Six Races that I had selections.

I did however manage to get the YORK PLACEPOT UP, although it only paid out £23.00 for the £1.00 Stake, due to Five Favourites being placed out of the Six Races.

I had a good NEWMARKET over the Three days, with SEVEN Winners from the Trainer APPLEBY and Jockey WILLIAM BUICK combination, so I can’t complain too much.

I’m on record as being a big fan of BR and I’m nowhere near meltdown:

I just have this idea that with the riches we have onfield and off, we should sweep ‘wee teams’ aside whether in pre-season knock-abouts or in proper comps.

Good morning all. Nice wee wander around Queens Park this morning, very warm already.

    Brilliant

🤣🤣 Brilliant. Ridiculous that they’re allowed to build those giant bonfires. Then again, maybe some of the polis were helping.

Talk of the women’s tennis not zipping the ball about. I wouldn’t ike to get hit by a return from Sabalenka. Holy shit, she can hit the ball. Probably takes too many risks, always looking for a winner, which is maybe why she never made the final.

  6. I am aware that in some grand slam tournaments females make use of different balls.

Men’s balls tend to be bigger and heavier, sometimes fluffier to feel.

I’m not sure if mens balls are bigger in SW London. I do know that they are unusually green which is different to normal balls. They also feel different when squeezed. They are much more durable due to enhanced felt.

Could balls that are felt differently be the difference in the men’s and ladies game ?

    I honestly don’t know.

The worry is, how will the players react if Brendan doesn’t sign an extension…….it never works when players know that the manager is leaving

  8. Another beautiful sunny day.

We had joy we had fun, f@ cked the ‘ Rangers” 7 -1.

  9. There was a point last season when I thought a front three of Maeda, Kyogo and Kuhn would be as good as it would get. Then we had Jota, Maeda and Kuhn and I thought it was even better.

Now as the new season looms we only have Maeda left from the first choice frontline.

We also desperately need physicality in midfield.

    Clock is ticking.

  10. If Maeda doesn’t sign the contract on offer he will be sold to whoever matches the club valuation, does Celtic look to be backing BR in getting the players he wants? I agree with an earlier poster the midfield group need strengthening all too similar and each less than the best in there.

    Great questions ?

Equal pay for men and women’s tennis is an odd one at grand slams.

    57 minutes yesterday. Women’s final

3 hours plus today. Men’s final

    Similar ratios in Paris.

Only shows our goals. No bad news is bad news. I don’t think Brendan will be here next year. Neither do I think he shouldn’t be backed. Every manager leaves at some time. Players sign and are part of the squad, whoever the manager is.

  13. I feel strongly about the fact the team has not found a good enough replacement for KT, Broony , Abada and now Kyogo as we are sitting on millions which should partly be reinvested in developing the best talent and the ow over required upgrades within and around our stadium we are paying more as paying supporters for far less year on year and almost every week new merchandise garments are sent to our inboxes that cost no more than a fiver being offered at 70 quid or more.

The most important role at a FOOTBALL CLUB is the MANAGER and off it the supporters and right now as it stands we have a manager now in final year of his contract.

No word from the club with regards our signing strategy we are left to guess after hearing a sentence or two on a platform you need to pay for this shouldn’t be the Celtic Way.

Is the football club run properly any many ways no and few yes but ask yourself is there a 3 year 5 years 10 year plan in place for all the key areas and the bits that really matters.

  14. Bada Bing – I agree, at the end of last season I expected to see Maeda and maybe Reo leave this summer. Hope I am wrong.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Meada is at a peak in terms of his selling potential. Hopefully, they’re both here but our so called model will surely be tested with a bid for one or both.

    Football without fans is nothing

Sevco 1 Barnsley 1 – behind closed doors, where Celtic’s training exercises could be kept for the sake of the angry, embarrassed, and self entitled.

Then again were Sevco not behind closed doors to avoid record low attendance due to the Orange Woke?

  19. As much as I love BR,I am getting sick of this bullshit about” Working away behind the scenes” shit he keeps coming away with.We have been chasing Balikwisha since January, the boy is desperate to come.He by all accounts is perfect for us,why would BR be so keen, yet he is sitting waiting on a call while we faff about. His club want 5 million. We all know the reason he is not training with us already. The drab suits are trying to get the price down.Too much.Looking at cheaper options.Time goes by.Is £ 1.7 million our target price now..Tillio,Inamura,won’t get you to the CL.

I have been critical of the selections for the friendlies. Not the players involved, the seemingly scattered approach to selection. To me,none of it makes sense.New signings, trying to find their feet, get used to their new team mates, how they play, getting lumped in beside youngsters, they probably won’t see again.

Compare this shambles to last year in America. If the drab suits are not playing ball,FFS tell us.Dont keep spouting the same old party line.If you are intent on leaving, what does it matter,if you are not,you will carry the can for any disasters this season.Put a rocket up their arse.Or maybe your own.I know, people say,”a long time to go in the window,”Is there really.?Do not let these people spoil the legacy you should be leaving when you eventually go.They will still be there.

  20. 3 weeks today we start the defence of our title and hopefully no small cheap plastic flags on our seats for what should be a good occasion.

I feel we need a feel good factor all round and and a proper homecoming with settled signings ready for the biggest start to season in good while.

    Hail Hail

  22. BSR,

Yes the list is endless, but where we are concerned, most sadly is true.If we had no money, what can you do?

We are rolling in it,but nothing changes. The fans fret, the Suits procrastinate. The two horse race might be shrinking. We managed disaster in the 10 season.Quite easy for them to do again.

  23. I have noticed more upbeat leaders on this blog as we sign someone’s who has in their opinion potential, obviously potential to make the club money, nothing else matters to the beancounters and what this blog promotes, maybe they already know the decision of BR?

  24. Maestro,

Can you actually see this happening in 3 weeks.I mezn,REALLY prepared.

  25. Turkeybhoy I’ve said all along newbies on tour not last minute the lawyers and accountants running our club have no clear strategy or plan still !!!

  26. SS,

More like apathy from some quarters.Maybe you think I spoke” heat stroke” nonsense but instead of trying to be witty, and sadly failing, all we get from you is your normal.Slagging off people.Until, that is,when the season starts and the interminable empty seat count begins.

If you don’t agree with my posts, fair enough, but until you get a sense of humor, don’t attempt it.
