Arne Engels’ physical stature belies his age. Still 21, he is already a winner at Celtic and full Belgian international. 21 is the age Callum McGregor was when he made his (scoring) Celtic debut. Callum was a year older when he first moved into the middle of the park from the wing. The captain is likely to end his career as the most honoured player is our history, but we needed patience to see him grow into the player he became.
At the same age, Reo Hatate was still at university. He had made 62 appearances for Kawasaki Frontale (who get an interesting amount of column inches on CQN these days), when he moved to Celtic as a 24-year-old. Aaron Mooy went below the radar at St Mirren at 21!
Young Reo was studying at 21, we probably saw Aaron at the same age and didn’t notice him, and we watched enough of Callum at this age to know the scale of development between 21 and 24 is enormous.
I like what we’ve seen so far from Arne and have big hopes he will continue to kick on during the season ahead.

Off subject I know, but I do enjoy the tennis, but abhor the elitism and rank snobbery at Wimbers, makes me vomit, royal box my arse.
KING LUBO, Mrs Emeraldbee just saw that post and immediately said “Are you posting under another moniker?”
No great interest in tennis, but started watching today’s final with open mind. Honestly had no ‘favourite’, but within about 15/20 minutes had decided I wanted Sinner to win, based solely on the vomit coming from the commentary team. And when I saw Alcatraz (joke!) bowing to the illustrious Kate after the match (and Sinner declined that privilege) I knew I had made to right choice.
BTW, both the finalists had parents who held fairly baisc jobs and had no silver spoon to ladle into their offspring. And we wonder why Britain (sorry, All England) don’t produce world class tennis players when the pool of players is so limited by class and wealth?

Im on hols just now and someone sent me a link from a sevco transfer page….so I’ve spent the last 30 mins reading it…..ffs I have never laughed as much in years.
They don’t realise the following…
They owe Dessers old club at least a couple of million so they can’t afford to sell him at his value which is 500k euros…..but also they need to give Dessers the shortfall on his wages which will be around 1.5m pounds…so they need around £4m just to free up his wage.
Danillio is probs about £6m in negative equity.
Igamine is worth about £2m on a punt..
He honestly might be good in a few years but probably won’t be….nobody is buying him.
Asking is too wee and too slow and passes the ball at half the speed Callum MacGregor and Hatate and Engels do.
Tav at 40 years old is STILL their best player.
Proper
Davies
Dowall
Ridvan
Matondo
McAulsand
Young guy King ( 10k a week)
The above 7 alone is over £10m just to pay them off.
Add Daniloo and Dessrs and you’re overall £20m just to rid of junk.
Clubs that these guys would get a game for do not pay transfer fees or pay £10k a week.
ATEAM INTRO……
GOT A SHiTEY OR INJURED PLAYER ON TOO MUCH MONEY?
NEED TO GET RID?
NEED A CLUB WHO WILL PAY MILLIONS FOR HIM IN INSTALMENTS TO KID THEIR FANS ON THEY AREN’T SKINT?
THEN YOU BETTER CALL ….RANGERS FC.
Honestly, if you have time, read it, its feminine hysterical.

Good night all. You are a fractious rabble. But you are not hun.
Has Modric signed yet?

Jobo said he signed for EK this morning.
Fantastic tactics by Chelsea manager.
One thing this game showed,if you have quick wide players, good distribution from the keeper is a wee bugger for defenders ,one on one.Chelsea ripped them apart up both wings first half.

Keir Stamer is quoted in the Jewish News on 14 February 2020 saying “I said it loud and clear, and meant it, that I support Zionism without qualification” and stated on LBC before the general election that Israel had the right to “withhold power and water from Gaza” so why is anyone surprised when the consequences of this support for Zionist war crimes are playing out before our eyes? If you don’t like genocide then don’t vote for political parties that advocate and support it.

Let’s just give up on religion: Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist or Scientologist: who gives a monkey? When you somehow rationalise the killing of young people for your religious goals , you should know you are on the wrong side of history. Where are the religious leaders when atrocities are being committed in the name of their religion; no-where, silent and duplicitous. If you want to fight over the colour of your skin ( why would you ?) or your political beliefs ( blah blah blah) then fill your boots, but religion, I tend to agree with Karl Marx, in an non-political way !
Norwich in for Yang
Bale getting asked if Chelsea players will be tired next season…he got tired doing a photo shoot
Bada
We should hold out for 9 million quid.
Re Yang to Norwich, I really wonder what they value Yang (an often peripheral figure in matches) at …?
9m would be nice GGH, but surely we’d take 3 ?
Meanwhile in Australia…
Australia’s special envoy for anti-semitism has just released a report that promises to weaponise anti-semitism and punish and defund Unis and arts orgs that she and her cronies deem to have a whiff of what they choose to define as hostile acts or language (incl freedom of speech demonstrations).
Meanwhile hypocritically, her husband has been outed as a donor to a far-right Org renowned for its anti-muslim rhetoric and content. Some neck eh ??

the mentality of the “we’re not far right”…
there was another wee cycle thru glasgow yesterday in support of the palestinians
https://x.com/ggectee/status/1944122005609230493/video/1
incident no1 – half way up sauchiehall street
you guy, quite big, runs alongside, shouting about “darkies”. old man and woman confront him. He smacks the old guy flush in the face. some of jump off our bikes. Confront him. he starts shouting about his old man being in the british army, then says sorry for punching the old guy.
incident no 2 – bucks bar – west george street-ish – some folk sitting on the benches outside. young tall bloke out of his seat shouting “f*ck Palestine”, as he sits down shouts “Fenian b*stards”.
incident no 3 – union street – young guy screaming “go home” – i askd him where – hes says “exactly, this is Scotland”
incident no 4 – 4 corners – drunk in hun top with can in hand – trying to move the guy who was stopping traffic for the cyclists.
no reason, no rational, no clue as to what the protest was. Immigration, Palestine, Celtic – its all the same to them. A deep deep hatred of anything not like them but they’re just normal people – not far right.
there were other choice comments on the route too but plenty of support and hand clapping I might add.
Quadrophenian
RE Yang : I’d be interested in how the negotiations progressed but you’re probably right about £3 million.
However I’d like to think that since they were looking for silly money for a third or fourth choice striker we should start with a cheeky opening gambit.
It worked for them.

i took the bait a few times but the missus and a more reasonable guy then me reminded me it was a peaceful protest, and there were families wi wee weans on the cycle, let the polis deal with it etc etc. they were right, I was wrong. harc to swallow tho.
typos !
Yang= £2.5m plus 30%.
Palma=:2.5m plus 30%
I don’t want or expect an answer ( I post in isolation and don’t want a persona or to make make friends) but I genuinely would like to know this……If you could go back in time one year…would you sign Adam Idah for £9m?
My answer…..you’re fekin right I would.
This guy will be Larssonesque.
spikeysauldman on 14th July 2025 12:23 am
fair do,s
tippy tappy . chelsea.
LAXALT we would be doing well to get that for either Yang or Palma. Both had plenty of chances to show they could step up. Cash in whatever we can recover and get some new wingers in asap preferably before the CL qualifier.

Good Morning Celts…
Quadrophenian @ 7:34 am,
“I’m on record as being a big fan of BR and I’m nowhere near meltdown:
I just have this idea that with the riches we have onfield and off, we should sweep ‘wee teams’ aside whether in pre-season knock-abouts or in proper comps.”
BSR @ 1:38 pm,
“Football without fans is nothing
Sevco 1 Barnsley 1 – behind closed doors, where Celtic’s training exercises could be kept for the sake of the angry, embarrassed, and self entitled.
Yes, it was interesting listening to Celtic TV’s take on these games.
They said Celtic were looking at them NOT as Friendlies but rather Test Games.
In that context, many “fringe players” and new signings were given the opportunity to show what they can do.
Now, you could say many never shone, and it’s a tough environment when you are just given two or three halves of football to show…
If you can make the huge step up from Celtic B
You have the necessary attributes to develop or can come into first team contention from the start of the season…
A big ask, but that is where it is playing for Celtic these days, intensity and pressure is key, can you handle it?
Not many will make it but surely they must be given the opportunity.
Out of all the players given that chance how many have actually shown what it takes to make the step up?
Also for the Manager, recruitment team and football staff a chance to understand what quality they have and at what stage of development players are at.
To go to the Board and say, we want a quality strike, we want more physicality in defence with a top CH, we need a top quality midfielder.
Now the Board get a tough time, but we have a development path, we have a recruitment model, they need to see that’s been used – out of the mega Clubs or the rich leagues, no Board is throwing money at managers to sign UCL ready players
Why would the Board be forking out for potential UCL players, when opportunities aren’t given to players in our own system or prospects we have signed?
Also why would these prospects come to Celtic, why would development players stay at Celtic if they didn’t see a path to the first team?
These “bounce” games afford many opportunities to the staff and players; as well as improving fitness and tactical prowess and awareness.
If the Club, staff and players are going to get slagged to death over these games then they’ll go back to being behind closed doors and we won’t get a look at these “fringe” players.
Yes, we have to be ready for a UCL-Q but the whole first team aren’t even back yet.
You would feel Sporting Lisbon is when we begin to be serious and our first real test of season is upon us, my feeling is we’ll see a marked step up.
In the meantime, give the bhoys a break.
Hail Hail
Good morning CQN.
Hopefully we get another batch of summer towards end July.
Interesting post yesterday re our transfer business to date.
Think it was 9 out, 6 in.
Decks being cleared.
Taurangabhoy – I hear you but … we’ve got good players well coached.
You can fail to make the step up to the first 11 at Celtic and still be very valuable to another club.
Top EPL clubs are routinely selling fringe players for 8 figures.
https://www.tiktok.com/@marianela.bird/video/7514729966815218966?_r=1&_t=ZN-8y0TnbZwrZq
Id sell Yang without much hesitation. That would leave Palma, Holm, Kwon & Tilio to be moved on.
2023 should be a warning against filling our squad with £2 million punts.
CHAIRBHOY on 14TH JULY 2025 5:57 AM
Great to see the penny has finally dropped.
If your thinking reflects Brendan’s it’s a significant moment.
Saddened to read of the passing of OLDTIM.
RIP, Sir!
I see the usual scaremongering … this time around around Jota’s injury.
What Brendan actually said
“It’s going to be in to next year.”
Which could be 2nd January 2026 … or 30th December.
“Next season” says the impish shock Jock.
With the usual “get your finger out and sign some one” suffix.
Yawn.
Guy got injured in spring.
Standard recovery time is 9 months.
Do the math.
He’s out of European group stages. Never in doubt. He won’t even make the squad.
He’ll start to come back in,likely, early spring 2026.
I expect him to give us a boost in the run in, with a solid preseason and push on to follow.
If we dont lose Maeda – IMHO, still two more forward players still to arrive.
If Yang leaves? A third will likely come in.

BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL I think that Celtic have maximised the “coached” return for fringe players very successfully over the last few years. Watching Yang in the shop window in the games he has played against basic opposition hasn’t set the Heather on fire and I can’t see how he will excite any big money players. Palma is a show pony who flatters to deceive. Getting between £2-3 Million for them would still be good business and would free up the spots to go for some quality or another potential. If we keep 9th unearthing Khuns and Jota’s we will be on this merry go round every transfer window. Hoping we can keep Maeda on a long term contract. Still a fair few incom8ngs over the next few weeks. Hail Hail.
