Arne Engels’ physical stature belies his age. Still 21, he is already a winner at Celtic and full Belgian international. 21 is the age Callum McGregor was when he made his (scoring) Celtic debut. Callum was a year older when he first moved into the middle of the park from the wing. The captain is likely to end his career as the most honoured player is our history, but we needed patience to see him grow into the player he became.
At the same age, Reo Hatate was still at university. He had made 62 appearances for Kawasaki Frontale (who get an interesting amount of column inches on CQN these days), when he moved to Celtic as a 24-year-old. Aaron Mooy went below the radar at St Mirren at 21!
Young Reo was studying at 21, we probably saw Aaron at the same age and didn’t notice him, and we watched enough of Callum at this age to know the scale of development between 21 and 24 is enormous.
I like what we’ve seen so far from Arne and have big hopes he will continue to kick on during the season ahead.

So,we are playing Russian Roulette with Antwerp over the price for Balikwisha.Might have fekin known.5 million Euros.Manager needs to sell,to buy,boy wants to come.Obviously BR wants him,we need a good winger, but no,their manager says, the bids have to be realistic.God knows what we offered.
Can’t be arsed with this now.
Taurangabhoy – cheers.
Despite my earlier stance you make a good point.
Unwanted players eventually stink the joint out (sometimes to the noticeable detriment of the mood of the overall group).
I’m minded of January 2024. Brendan took the (IMHO, brave) decision to reduce the squad to a small core who could bring it home … which they did.
Definitely not part of any strategy it was the right call in the circumstances.
Sometimes it is better to ditch quicker and take the hit.
Selling cheaper with a sell on clause is good strategy.
Tis the season to have our hopes dashed.
Plenty of time but it’s looking again like the Sheysters we have as a board are sticking to their normal mantra. Still. Sevco only have a bearded veggie in charge….no contest…

I logged in ‘big mistake’ after the Lisbon training game, should have known better.
Problem is the gap between Lowland League Celtic B and Celtic first team is cavernous, mixtures of the two aren’t Celtic spectacles and really aren’t for conducive consumption by mad Sellic supporters the world over, tests games yes, I agree. Similar complaints were made about ‘short changed’ Irish fans in the Cork game.
It was great to get another glimpse of Sean McArdle and see Tierney Hatate and Nygren, tests and judgements are for BR.
Daily Blogger Paul67 doesn’t cover Celtic friendlies tests or training games on CQN – a wise man.
Hail Hail

Test games clearly test more than the players and coaches , judging by recent reactions .
Even a ‘friendly’ is a lot less friendly than a Lennoxtown kickabout as Estrela showed . Young McCardle impressed me in his cameos at the end of last season , much less so in Portugal . That’s what tests are all about , BR maybe wanted to see how the youngster would cope in Callum’s role in a proper game .
Separate the value of the excercise from the result.
