Hopes for Viljami, Paulo and Maik

155

It wasn’t quite, but if feels like 40 days and 40 nights since we last saw Celtic, and even that game was a penance.  The Bhoys are back in town tomorrow with the visit of Hearts, who, like Celtic, have won three and lost two of their last five games.  Like Celtic, the defeats came to Hibs and Newco.  We can expect a difficult opponent.

Hearts are sixth in the table, just a point ahead of Motherwell, with three games to go before the split.  They are only two points behind Dundee United, and a probable European place next season.  The financial incentive for a club like Hearts to finish in the top six and qualify for Europe gives them a target tomorrow we can only aspire to.

Paulo Bernardo’s return to fitness is great news, although we should not expect Classic Paulo tomorrow.  Hopefully the full flavoured version will be ready for Hampden next month.  I know we are all looking forward to seeing Viljami Sinisalo make his first league appearance for Celtic.  Viljami represents all the ‘buy low and develop’ strategy we have experienced in the last 18 months.  Let’s hope he succeeds.

I would also like to see Maik Nawrocki retain his place.  He has the potential to develop into an excellent Celtic player, but that development needs to happen soon.

  1. Danny ‘bhoy’ Arzani scores x2 for Victory v Adelaide.

The A-league really is a competitive, gripping comp: salary cap ensures a relatively equal playing field.

6 point difference between the top 6 clubs at table top.

BRRB – birthday cheers to you.

  2. BRRB

I suppose for many 18,21, 40 and 60 are all `special` birthdays but , for Celtic supporters, 67 is magic so Happy Birthday.

PS The tricky bit for you is how to make it special. Go to the pub and drink Irn-Bru?

  3. heroes are forever on

Happy birthday BRRB, special birthday 67 . I turned 67 in September and call it my Lisbon year, the family got me a Celtic shirt with GRANDA 67 on it. Just put it on now heading for paradise, lets go get them Bhoy’s hail hail

    I am good thanks mate!

Was planning to go yesterday but MIL had a fall and needed company to keep an eye on her.

She is on the mend! She was 88 on Wednesday! Still has a sherry in the afternoon and a whisky in the evening.

    Hope you are good too!

  7. I saw chat last night about Henrik playing golf. I remember playing in (I think) a Celtic Pools golf day at Cathkin Braes. The KoK was in the group in front of us. As my group approached a green we could see Henrik teeing off at the next hole, a Par 3. I thought he hit a Sclaffed shot but…you can guess… a Hole in One.

  8. Quadro – salary cap – now that is real innovation financial fairplay in europe, my arse

  9. BRRB – many happy returns from the Lonestar State.

Philboy – I also got Hoople in 2 – I wonder if your first guess was the same as mine – made the second guess easy….

  10. lets all do the huddle on

    ———

I know the ship has sailed and world fitba will never go to something so egalitarian (ie a level playing field) but the salary cap kinda works in Oz league. Sure, we don’t have the superstar personalities and top, top skill levels but it’s a fairish league with heaps of goals and decent skills. Lots of young prospects coming thru too.

Nine different teams have won the pennant in 20 years – keeps it sorta interesting.

Today? 3-1 to the good ghuys !

  12. lets all do the huddle on

not sure how a salary cap could work here.

it would maybe make the league more even, but then we couldnt attract players to make us do anything in europe.

  13. i was astounded of forehead earlier as tam referred on the radio that Sir David Murray is publishing an autobiography with the catchy name of

DAVID MURRAY METTLE – TRAGEDY, COURAGE AND TITLES

    £22 BTW.

Now Tam deferred to some sycophany saying it should be a fascinating read. Stuat Cosgrove was more withering asking if there is an appetite from a certain swathe of Rnagers supporters as they righlty blame him for the clubs downfall , started withe ebts and ended up in liquidation, i would suggest he strayed from the party line of the beeb, as in dont mention the war.

However, after i thought firstly about the shear brass kneck of the fella, i wondered why now ? he does nothing without a reason, a rationale.

Does he know something about the takeover ? is he involved somehow, does he feel enough time has passed that he could return somehow saying i was duped and sorry it ever happened /

That is my gut feel, something is afoot.

  14. last nights sports reporting and daft hugh were predicting a hard game for celtic today, just because we will be “rusty” and rocking on our heels because we lost that game

    utter nonsense.

i am expecting celtic to perform today, and get back to scoring and winning ways.

    LADTH

As jackieMac said; European fitba (ie its money men) would never go for salary cap.

If Celtic ever left the Scotch league, a salary cap might help the other teams to thrive more equitably; encourage them to play younger players too rather than older English cast-offs.

As for non-dom competition, the Aussie league winners go to the Asian Champions league where bigger money teams from Japan and China etc compete.

Western Sydney and Central Coast only x2 Aus to win ACL in 20 yrs; still; that’s no bad.

  16. Saint Stivs on 29th March 2025 1:13 pm

I have now changed my mind and feel quite confident that we will win today :-))

  17. PHILCOOL,

    Mea culpa!!

Thanks for setting the record straight – btw, mon the hoops!

  18. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Watching a few minutes of Fulham Palace before heading to Celtic Park.

    6 words spring to mind.

    Sander

    Berge

    Calvin

    Bassey

    Dearie

    Me

Bewildering that money was spent on these two.

90% of professional footballers down all the leagues in England could do 90% of their job … with no discernable reduction in effectiveness.
