Hoping to ‘do a Queen’s Park’ in Munich

76

I know what you’re thinking.  If Queen’s Park can interrupt a run of eight league games which saw them lose six, draw one and win one, by going to Ibrox and winning, Celtic can do the same against similar odds in Munich.

We have a Puncher’s Chance, but it is likely that we will need to look for compensations in areas other than the result tonight.  I want to see the defence repeat deploy the same endeavours they did in Bergamo when they withstood an excellent Atalanta side earlier in the campaign.

Seasoned European sides can compress a game into few chances. This attribute will be needed in August’s Champions League qualifier and again in European competition proper.  Even if they win, keep the Bayern expected goals stat down to a competitive figure. Don’t repeat the Grand Touring last seen in Dortmund.  We should not create an opening in the first five minutes; if we do, be worried.

There might be some learnings from last week.  Celtic were mostly careful when progressing the ball out from the back. On one occasion possession was lost on the edge of our box; it was not regained until Bayern were 0-2 ahead.  That was the second concession while trying to play out from the back at home in the Champions League this season, Brugge’s goal being the first.

All teams struggle when pressed high up-field, we need to learn to cope with this, or to abandon it in certain circumstances.

I would also like to see the midfield three link better.  Arne Engels was too adrift last week.  He and Reo Hatate need to always be available for a pass from the back line.  If we can do this, there will be space for Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idah and Jota (when he inevitably comes on) to exploit.  Then, we can think about ‘doing a Queen’s Park’.

Is waterworks all one word or is it spelt with a hydrant?

Philcool – nice one – you have just subjected everyone I know to that joke for a few years.

  2. Re Park`s buses.

Do Sevco have their own buses?

I would guess that the likelihood of damage inflicted by supporters of other teams might well be a factor for us and THEM.

  4. The players will learn a lot tonight

The fans will learn much about our overall strength.

As always, I dread heavy defeats in Europe.

Hoping for a mature performance and bring some pride back on the flight

    Realistically, can see 3-1

  5. The post said: “LOI Talk can exclusively report that Cork City are set to play a friendly against Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, the home of Cork GAA.

“Cork City FC owner Dermot Usher previously stated on the Rebel Army Podcast that the club were in talks to host a big summer friendly against a big UK club.

“The ‘big club’ looks to be Celtic

    No date yet

  6. TexaxTim – You’ll be welcomed with open arms in Minnesota :) Currently warmed up to -17F after a chilly -23F start to the day. However, no floods, fires, tornado’s to deal with plus a wonderful Summer climate.

Ziggy – I checked Amazon Prime and it does advertise the game, but I’m pretty sure you need a subscription to Paramount+ . They show all the Euro games on there plus a lot of SPL games and it’s only $7 or $8 a month. Well worth it.

  7. MNCelt – cheers! Also considered Chicago, as I don’t mind a cold winter.

Ziggy – Austin my favorite city in TX but the same summer weather, unfortunately.

I hope all our bhoys enjoy the game tonight and show a professional team that is improving.

  8. And that’s how quickly it can change! Milan score inside first minute from a corner!

    Brilliant, brilliant interview.

Someone asked about Brendans leadership skills in a good way the other day, not questioning does he have them, but instead asking what behaviours demonstrate his leadership.

For me, its all over that interview.

From the clearly tidied, structured mapped out , poster missions asking for qualities to be displayed, to how comfortable he is with media and fiercely intelligent responses about planning, competing, improving, whisper it, pragmatism (?) in keeping the team in the big games and allowing for an outcome.

    Superb interview.

Sprinkled with some deference to Martin, and allowing the senior person to make really insightful comments.

As to future contract, his 3 sentences on that leads me to belive, it is all about the performances now.

Establish Celtic as a champions league play off team, and maybe he doesnt go anywhere for some time yet.

Hoping for the best and Celtic can deal with the pressure.

  13. Majestic Hartson on

Really looking forward to my sons school concert tonight.

Hopefully the band keep it really tight for the first 60 minutes and then go for it for the remaining 45….

    😕

  14. CELTIC: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Schlupp, McGregor, Hatate, Engels, Kuhn, Maeda, Jota.

Subs: Sinisalo, Bain, Taylor, Scales, Idah, Yang, McCowan, Nawrocki, Kenny, Murray, Ralston, Bonnar

  16. Majestic Hartson on

    Good news Tom 👍🏻

Big shout on Schlupp. I liked the look of him last week, hopefully it works out

    Re Park`s buses.

Do Sevco have their own buses?

I would guess that the likelihood of damage inflicted by supporters of other teams might well be a factor for us and THEM.

    ‐———————-

Sevco a la Rangers had their own purpose built bus after der Hun was liquidated in 2012.

It was burned out by one Rangers FC’S creditors.

  22. Hoping for a fantastic effort from our Bhoys tonight. They know their strengths, and possible weaknesses.Nothing to fear except fear itself.

    I want BR to play,Kuhn. Maeda. Jota.Make. them wary of our pace and threat.Hatate is my worry.On form,at his best,virtually unplayable.Worth the gamble?Or Schlupp.Not an obvious choice,but strong,neat and tidy,with pace.

    BRs choice.

  23. Sionnaigh – I remember that. I think I also recall McCoist insinuating that it must have been Celtic fans that did it.

    Wrong info mate

It was an attack by fans

    On McGills bus depo

The mcgill brothers were major shareholders in new club at that time

Think they sold up not long after

S.ally famously implied it was Celtic fans

    Wrong then as always
