Hottest ticket in management lurches in the wrong direction

831

Right now our former captain, Paul Lambert, is one of the hottest tickets in football management so it’s no surprised that Norwich City have been unable to hold onto him.  Inside three years he transformed the club from one that lost 1-7 to Colchester United (then managed by Paul) to one of the most improved teams in Europe, earning two consecutive promotions and a mid-table finish in the FA Premier League.

If Lambert ended up at Liverpool, or even Chelsea, you would not have been surprised.  Instead, he’s set to go to Aston Villa.  During their Martin O’Neill era Villa splurged cash they ultimately realised they couldn’t afford.  Martin walked out days before the start of the season in August 2010.  Since then they pitched Gerard Houllier at the job before poaching Alex McLeish from relegated city rivals Birmingham.

In short, Villa looks like a club without the vision to build stable progress.  Unlike Norwich, who seem to know exactly what they are doing.  They even coped with the loss of Neil Doncaster, who left the club a few months before the arrival of Lambert.

Norwich City is the better job.

I’m on Radio Scotland with Jim Spence around 16:15 today, talking about social media and football, square sliced, the price of milk and lawn care.

There are many churches which view the Pope as the Antichrist. They also maintain that Catholicism isn’t even Christian.

It’s only what I’ve read, and I can well imagine it. The same source said there were Protestants in the Norman Conks, again for purely territorial reasons.

I assume, given your certainty on the matter, that you possess a full membership list specifying religious adherence, in which case I must defer.

When asked what they think o religion

They’ll say “Aw religions aw right”

I remember on TV a long time ago people being interviewed in the street being asked if the were Christian to which a young man responded “naw am a Catholic”

btw – we have a mass on tuesday morning to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee (i live in england) – however one of our parishioners of Irish descent had s few words with the parish priest after mass – the response by the PP was along the lines that we should be praying for her conversion.

If I didn’t have a strong Celtic soul I’d despair. Where is the world going, where have we been? ‘They’ say it’s the same for every generation, but we seem to have reached a new level in hatred for ‘the other’,and keep on perfecting nastier ways of killing each other.

The more people on the planet, the worse we behave to each other.

Every corner,no matter how remote, seems beset with strife.

And the arrogant aristo/toff/bankster/gangster clique at the apex of the heap of beans get worse and worse, greedier and greedier.

The tipping point is surely imminent.

  25. With regards to the Norman Concs, no idea if there were Protestants in it, what I do know, because my Papa grew up there and his Da was one (a brute of a man apparently, who could only communicate with his fists), was that ‘Little’ Norman Street was the small end of the street broken by a big road crossing over it and it was a no go area for the Orange Walk, well apart from one year. My Papa used to tell me how his Da heard the OO got permission that year to march down ‘Little’Norman Street. So a big cast iron pot was placed in the middle of the room, all the table scraps, bed pans etc were emptied into it for the week leading up to the day of the walk………There was a riot that day and my great grandfather only escaped by knocking out a policeman and wearing his uniform to make good his exit!

I was around the Cumbie in the late 70 early 80s and the fights with the Derry (and Tongs) continued- mainly around the “shows” annual stint at Fleshers Haugh. The animosity continued mainly on religious lines though the Cumbie had a few prominent non catholics in their ranks- a mixture of geography and religion on one side, and god knows what on the other

  30. The way I see it, the Jubilee- with the various street parties & pageants-is nothing more than a mixture of blind enthusiasm and an excuse for grouping. Enthusiasts of all types will try and sustain a certain raw impulse (normally for an emotional stimulus they can’t find in everyday ‘normal’ relations) by generating a heightened state of excitement. It is a phenomenon with very little duration. But by means of grouping, its life expectancy can be increased, through mutual reinforcement of the enthusiasts original raw impulse. People group all the time for various reasons. There is nothing pernicious in that itself. We are social creatures after all. But it is the ideological baggage that comes with collective celebrations like the jubilee that is pernicious. I am not a Unionist. I come from a Catholic background. I believe in Democracy. The Royal family does not represent anything I believe in. To me they are an anachronism no longer relevant to the modern world. I find it mind boggling when so-called intelligent people who possess an education, lose all moral lucidity, and become angst ridden when you challenge their views on Aristocracy/Royalty- it is schizoid to believe in democracy and equality whilst exalting the inhprivilege of royalty.cannot prop up a primitive/uncivilized blood biased weltanschauung that indulges economic parasites who are accidentally (serendipity for those who enjoy the luxury of such munity) born into such easement.
