Howe and premature news

265

I read a lot of confidence that the appointment of Eddie Howe is a done deal, all a matter of getting Bournemouth’s play-off games out of the way to allow the appointment of his backroom staff.  If only the world worked this way.

Managerial appointments have commercial consequences.  If Celtic had a manager contracted, the stock market would be informed at an early opportunity.  Negotiations are no one else’s business but it is inappropriate to keep commercially sensitive information like this from the market.

Eddie may have shaken hands, spent an hour with the media team for a planned reveal, but a contract?  Sorry.  You will know very soon after that is signed.  Until then, it is a draft document.

It also makes no sense waiting on the availability of backroom staff before announcing the manager, who could easily tell the media, “I’m working on the backroom team and will let you know when there is news.”

His former Bournemouth assistants will either join him in his next job, stay where they are, or go elsewhere.  Eddie will take another job, with or without them.  This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.

There is also the dirty little subject.  Imagine for a moment the pressure inside every business unit at Celtic Park.  The finance team will have nervous twitches looking at statements and forecasts.  Those in the retail department will be battering their F5 keys and calling everyone in the business hoping for information.  Ticketing have their busiest two month’s work to cram into an ever-decreasing window.  The Foundation and the many who depend on it for support and assistance – jeez – they need our help more than anyone.  “Just.  Do.  It.” will be the message from every department head.

An entire enterprise is waiting on one statement to allow it to trade normally.  Do you really think Celtic are so chilled about money would sit on news that forgoes this cash?  Really?

You and I have seen a lot of the football business.  We know that if a talent is good enough, he is incentivised to keep his options open until the last possible moment.  This scenario, I buy.  Anyway, have a nice Thursday!

  4. Martinez and maloney Dear god we are a million miles away from enticing guys like that . I’m gonna say if Howe doesn’t show up I won’t be to bothered ,I would imagine there s better than him out there ,but if he is all that we can get 100% support he will get from me . I think we are becoming a laughing stock with regards this will he won’t he nonsense , but it’s a bit familiar with the way we do business , dilly dally until we loose out , after all we still have in the building the king of the cock up so it shouldn’t be a surprise to any of us . What’s this new Coe needing shadowed by lawell for if McKay can’t do better than him again god help us . ( Can anyone remember if lawell was shadowed when he took over ) . We will never get rid of him he will never leave the gravy train .

  5. Blurred lines between being a supporter or a consumer. I didn’t like the product I bought last year so give me added value or money back. Dear oh dear, it’s Celtic FC not John Lewis. The season ticket revenue is the heartbeat of the club. Sad to see such entitlement and disconnection from reality. 4 years ago we won an invincible treble, how was that for value for money. Had we won the 10 not one person would ask for a penny back or extra value. It’s a non argument, there will be no partial refund or extra value and neither there should be.

Definitely true. Got e mail today from Celtic pools saying same.

A scandal. Scottish Government and the state stormtroopers should be making sure there is no danger to public safety by stopping the klan from gathering rather than closing businesses for the day.

So my luck, she goes to the racecourse and i don’t speak to her . Last race RAYMOND 16/1 thank you very much trained by KEITH himself.

It reminded me of the story of the Driver who was Towing a Horse Box, and he was maybe driving a bit too fast and eventually the Police stopped him to check him out etc.

The Police told the Driver to open up the Horse Box.

On opening the horse Box, the Police see that it is EMPTY .

The Cops ask the Driver…” Your driving a bit fast …and do you know that your Horse Box is empty, so why the hurry” ?

Driver replies…” I am taking the NON Runners to the Track” !

    ————-

Who has been offered a refund?

Regards economic hard times, are you referring to this season or next season’s season tickets? For 20/21 season tickets were sold on the basis that there was a possibility of not entering the stadium. The are hundreds and thousands of Celtic supporters who can well afford to support the club making demands because the team performed poorly. Demanding success. It’s no different from buying something from a store and taking it back because you don’t like it. It’s a byproduct of years of success. We didn’t win the league this year because another team was better. So write it off and go again next season. That’s how football works and how it always will.

  13. Its now 78 days since Neil Lennon left Celtic.

I don’t think those of us who are unhappy with our lack of a new management team are being unreasonable.

Certainly, Celtic40me critised those who demanded an ‘immediate’ appointment.

I would have been happy with a 5 week recruitment process.

It’s now unlikely that any incoming team will be able to meet face to face with those whose contracts are up. Many will be flying home in the next week.

We shouldn’t accept this level of incompetence.

We have become spectacularly adept at making excuses as to why we have no management team in place. I’m unsure quite when and why this behaviour started. I expect more of it today.

  14. Good morning CQN

The are hundreds and thousands of Celtic supporters who can well afford to support the club

What an arrogant statement, you are clearly privileged in these uncertain economic times, others less so, furlough scheme starts to end July, families have serious concerns around future employment and IMO buying an overpriced season ticket for a shambles of a club with the football dept having no leadership at all, even the interim manager is in the dark as to any future plans, the corporate board continue to treat its customer base with contempt banking on emotional bonds continuing to show loyalty, whilst they maintain their status and remuneration

Who has been offered a refund?

Corporate all got offered refunds, check your facts

Added value was offered but not delivered, what we got was a poor TV service which buffered badly on occasion, we could have watched many of these games on other subscription channels, £600 = poor TV service, football dept disintegrated, poor corporate governance which is continuing

Having a go at those at the bottom demanding they buy their season tickets, deary me

    aff oot

  15. I would echo what Paul67 posted on 4th May

“A team filled with a high number of loaners and players entering the final year of their contracts with intentions of moving to England is not an ideal squad for the new manager to inherit. There is, however, benefit to him walking into a morale-depleted Lennoxtown than starting after 15 May, when players leave for their summer conversations with their agents”

  16. Oh I forgot

Congratulations to the community around Kenmore street, we are all immigrants

  17. Re the DoF _

Fergal will not commit until Eddy commits, but he won’t commit until the backroom team at Bournemouth commit, but they can’t commit until Bournemouth’s season finishes.

    In a nutshell.

    Good morning CQN

    ———

Maybe you need to check facts and play the ball rather than the man.

You deliberately missed out parts of my post to take it out of context.

Check my facts? I asked a question, that’s what I’m doing!

Shambles of a club? 4 consecutive trebles not good enough for you. New CEO appointed and manager to follow.

Club can do better yes, but had we done 10 neither you or any else would demand extra value. Faithful through and through but only when we get the results we want. That’s arrogant.

  19. The zoom call yesterday seems to have had its challenges.

DMcK diplomatic skills were given a full run out …

Impressed by the skill level and dedication of the current staff in place.

Need to learn from international best practice to take us to the next level.

Reading between the lines — we try hard but we are shockingly bad.

CP is full of local worthies who cannot get a job elsewhere / or can’t be bothered to look.

    Fans with clipboards / laptops.

Regarding the season ticket situation — rock and a hard place come to mind.

If we refund this season or discount next then that is money out the door that we cannot spend on the pitch.

Tough call — nearly 60% of the season ticket holders took the 2019/20 refund that was offered.

Looking like this was a bigger number than they were expecting.

Also the amateur hour CL qualifying campaign comes into play.

It is the difference between some sort of payback and the current scrabble for cash.

The season ticket holders are in a cleft stick.

Pay up or the playing squad gets it …

    Blazing Saddles time at CP.

DMcK — A bit heavy on the business techno babble but he gets it that we are a very poorly organised and run club.

Also he seems to have pushed the point that picking a manager is critical.

It is not the place for emotional visits to shower rooms or locking your drawer when it is full of CVs.

First job — take the microphone off BW.

  20. onenightinlisbon on

So if we are “customers” and not supporters then we as “customers” should demand the best possible “product” – time to turn the tables on these sharp suited ***** in the board room.

  21. LR67 @ 7.41

The phrase “over emotional pis*” comes to mind after reading your post.

What comes first — the quality of football on the park or a financial sop to the season ticket holders?

It does grate that we have spaffed money up against the wall on PL’s bonus and agent friendly buys and loan deals.

However we gave the board the power / money and they have wasted it.

They have been doing this for all the time that PL got his grubby hands on the transfer budget.

Waste vs stupidity vs self serving — discuss.

If we don’t bring in the money then can we complain if we sell dear and buy very cheap?

    Huge rebuild required.

We — the support — are to blame in that we let the board get away with it.

We have had three years warning of this failure.

Too many got hung up on SPL pot hunting and the rot got worse.

  22. Refunds for the season 20/21 — free pie seats and hospitality for the food and drink they did not consume.

The club did not have to supply the food so they were in the money as things stood.

So they have to refund some of the ticket price back to the ticket holders.

Not sure about the actual numbers.

  23. Feeling melanchonic this morning, thinking of the years that are slipping by.

A very good friend and well known figure in Scottish cycling found out yesterday he has 6-9 months to live.

Only last month we were out cycling together around the mountains here on the Costa Blanca.

He was the picture of health, strong as a bull, clean living.

Cancer of the liver, stage IV, beyond treatment and until a month ago didn’t even know he was ill.

So sad to hear the sad news, makes you think.

  26. Go tell the Spartim on

The history books will show we won nothing this season, didn’t even make it to a final and I’ve not even looked how far behind we are TFOD, plc solution, give us your cash and move on, we’re working on things, blah de blah de blah, we’ve got a new CEO who sadly is being mentored by the departing one.

This is a question not a statement, has anyone at any level at Celtic Park, training ground, Barrowfield, taken a temporary pay cut, like many clubs employees across Europe have done? For instance has PL? I’d like to think so
