Howe, Falkirk with a grievance

368

You and I have seen enough of the football business to know that even when someone verbally commits to joining Celtic, we should assume nothing.  Eddie Howe wanted his next destination to be an English Premier League city, not Glasgow.  Right now, the Bat Signal is lighting the clouds, anyone who wants to secure English football’s best young manager had better make their move over the weekend.  This is how football works, so let’s not get carried away.

If he arrives, it will be an appointment at the higher end of expectations, compare and contrast to Man City youth coaches who have never been in charge of a dressing room full of adults.  Or even Roy the Intense.

Having filtered through so many possibilities in recent weeks, I can find fault with every one of them, even Brendan Rodgers, who is clearly the best manager in British football right now, did not get a tick in the box when it came to recruitment.  We will critically assess Howe if and when he becomes Celtic manager. For now, let’s just hope we get our man.

Falkirk are atop the third tier and nurse a grievance from a year ago, when they were pipped to promotion by 0.03 of a point per game average by Raith Rovers.  Tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie has all the hallmarks of an underdog fully motivated against an inconsistent giant.  Some of us will remember a comparable freezing cold night 15 years ago when a young Falkirk striker, Anthony Stokes, scored at Celtic Park on his way to a penalty competition victory in the League Cup.  Let’s turn up prepared and hungry this time; I want the Scottish Cup.

  1. ” I think that’s one thing at Celtic that sometimes did lack, in terms of our reserves or our first team – there were kind of cliques and there wasn’t a full togetherness.”

In that that came from a player who was actually there, that is quite a damning comment.

  2. Just watched The Sound of Music and how Julie Andrews and a convent(?) of nuns beat the Nazis

  3. 1970. The lesson that should have been learned was that cliques form stronger with longevity

Reading back the words “90% done and verbal agreement” sound like the Forster saga.

Are we being used to entice a team closer to England as apparently that is his preference.

Could be usual mis reporting but to date we are being made look desperate.

Brockville on a Saturday afternoon in February brings back hellish memories

I think all our hopes were on the cup but did not turn up beat 2-0 easy

the thing that stays in my mind from that day was a certain Stuart Slater who had cost us quite a few pounds then and his complete lack of effort and bottle so much so he would have been as well standing beside me

I believe i informed him of this and several other activities he could practice elsewhere

ps i think john Collins was playing as well another under performer for us

The interview with Cameron Harper was a shocking indictment of the development structure for young players at Celtic. I’ve said on here before he would have been better playing at college level in the USA than in Scotland, where he has not been able to progress as a player. Frimpong was developed at Man City, and was fortunate there was an opening on the right side of the team when he burst onto the scene. He did not progress under Neil Lennon, despite his ability. Young players would do well to avoid Celtic with the present set-up in Scotland, it is a dead end for a footballer. Get a scholarship, and go west young man.

  9. Eddy doing his reputation, and price tag,no harm at all.Another stunning goal for France.

The huns appealing the Covid 5 suspensions, they really are shameless ….”

Is that to deflect from the fact that, once again, they had preferential treatment?

( punished AFTER they had won the League and were out of Europe).

Love them all. Big Rico Annoni – fabulous – Morten Wieghorst – cigar smokin’ Tommy Johnson – tail end of Andreas Thom’s time at Celtic, the first big player TB signed I think (and the widest thights I’ve ever seen on a footballer), Tosh, Phil O’Donnell (God rest him), Mad Stéphane Mahé….list goes on.

The phrase ‘last minute hitches’ and the fact that Peter Lawwell is still involved makes me a wee bit twitchy .
