Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”
With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them. I’m not buying that either. He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone. If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here. It is the former, surely?
Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May. Like all these decisions, it was a gamble. Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.
So where has this left us? The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned. You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park. The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!
Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

You can guarantee that the next candidate will be more pliable and open to John Kennedy sticking around.
I’m with on most of what you say Paul, but there was no scope to “gamble” after the season we’ve watched, let alone wait 3 months to see if it pays off. After prevaricating over the removal of Neil Lennon, decisive action was required.
Really poor management.
Blantyre Tim – Only good news this weekend
Congratulations to you both.

Any huge club which lets the managerial situation gets to this stage after 3 months without a permanent manager in place has serious problems at board level.
Unless all the members of the board involved in this embarrassment resign then the club as a whole will continue to be ruled over in a Lawwellesque fashion.
Latest crash test dummies are Favre and Vieira……

Multi-Million pound businesses don’t appoint their pal in the showers without looking at better candidates.
Have you not been watching?
FFS somebody go and put a padlock on Steve Clarke’s shower door ……QUICK!!
Howe probably couldnt agree with Liewell as Howe did not want the 5 ginger bottles and a 10p mix up as part of the deal.
This has Liewell all over it as well.
We should have told any future manager to sign or walk months ago.

The first comment I posted on cqn was that bankers and accountants don’t make good business leaders. Desmond Whyte, Fergus and Lawwell are chartered accountants. Brian Quinn is a banker. These professions are by training, consevative, with a small c. Don’t take chances. Be careful. Be cautious. Don’t speculate. Accumulate. Save for a rainy day. Don’t spend £5 when you can spend £1. Sell big and buy cheap.
No more accountants and bankers running our club. Please.
Bada – I would take Favre in a heart beat.
D :)
I wish I could say I was shocked that the Howe deal has reportedly collapsed at the last hour.
Such is the way we’re run. We need a boardroom clear out and we need Desmond to be removed from any influence over how we are run.
They’re idiots. If anyone was in any doubt after Lennon’s appointment in the showers, all doubt can now be removed. We’re run by clowns.
There was nothing agreed with Eddie Howe .
No package etc.etc
The club is ina bigger shambles than most people think .
Do we think the supporters are the only people they fail to communicate with.
God forbid it’s Steve Clarke

TGD calls the shots, no one else.
SUTTON1888 on 28TH MAY 2021 4:16 PM
I’ve said it a million times before and I will say it again-there is no solution to Celtic’s problems that involves anyone there just now.
SUTTON 1888, said exactly that on a few occasions. Those that caused the problems should absolutely NOT be trusted to solve them, so we can hardly be surprised at these events. Feckin’ chancers the lot of them.
BB
Vieira, has he coached?
I was told 3 weeks ago through a source who has a patchy record of reliability that Celtic was in talks with Chris Wilder.
If true, plan B could happen quickly.
LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE on 28TH MAY 2021 4:19 PM
Congratulations to BLANTYRE TIM and his good lady who celebrate 27 years married today!

would either of them be interested in managing a disfunctional football club?
—————————–
I would prefer Mrs BT for that job …..congratulations you two .
Chris Wilder?
Gets funnier by the minute.
As was mentioned on the last blog MON was not the first choice neither was WTT or Dr Jo, the former stopped the lyin cheatin thievin 10 and gave us our wee talisman while the latter turned him intae a world class striker and gave us Lubo.
Time tae stop greetin and grow up lhads, nae guarantee Fast Eddy would have made it up in bigotry land.
My questions are:
1. Why Howe? His CV is pretty average.
2. If Howe, why wait this long? It’s not like Pep or Klopp where you’d wait for ever, Howe is the level of coach where you offer the job and if he doesn’t say yes quickly you move onto the next C tier coach (there’s plenty of them out there).
The budget will be what can be afforded, not what is needed, or what a prospective manager demands. That is the Celtic way. If what is affordable and what is needed are in sync – things can happen.
For example – at the beginning of this season we needed to keep the winning squad intact and strengthen to achieve 10iar. No transfers out were sanctioned and £20m was made a available for transfers in, even though we were in the middle of Covid. What was deemed to be needed and what was affordable fell into line.
No one, but no one, could have known that the players would ‘down tools’ and 10iar would be surrendered.
As I said in an earlier post – the budget would be determined by how much could be raised from player sales – by definition that figure can only be determined over time during the window.
Celtic will not incur substantial debt, nor does it have a queue of rich fans will to plough in £millions in return for shares.
Finally, anyone who thinks that recent events did not play a part in EH’s and/or his backroom staff’s decision is living in ‘cloud cuckoo land’
I think I’m in a minority of 1 but I’m not buying the ‘this is all Celtic’s fault’
HJ – Wider been out of work for weeks why not get him in weeks ago.
D :)
Are some supporters genuinely laying this at the feet of Howe ?
Howe owes us nothing.
Our Board have sat for months and now look to rush an appointment that the whole world knows was at least second choice 5 or 6 weeks from CL qualifiers.
I so fed up with the shower that run our Club. They’d be chased in any other industry where it not for Desmond, the man whose brain is indirectly proportional to the size of his ego.
Oh it’s all Celtic’s fault for letting Howe dictate to us.
D :)
Maybe PL’s house getting torched convinced Howe & his family to say FUCK THAT!!!!!
The problem for the next manager is that he will be seen as a second choice and this will be brought up all the time. He is undermined before he is even in the building.
I’ll repeat something I alluded to a few weeks ago – Celtic do not have a ‘board’.
The CEO runs the club on behalf of the owner. The Chairman and 3 NEDs are there to fulfil a legal obligation required to be a PLC. They have no say in decision making or how the club is run.

I agree it isn’t. Anyone who was available during the season hasn’t been in football recently.
The Glesga violence scuppered it big time. They don’t want to put their families at risk. Quite rightly.
Huns won……. again :(
Congratulations BT, hope you both have a lovely day, por cierto
Are we going all Ronny D again now , some cheap, unknown European coach.
Said on here months ago that we should be sounding out Paulo Fonseca. To sit on a single target this long is ridiculous and typical of the shambles of a club we have become.
Now its the countries fault………….FFS.
We’ve needed a manager for 6 months, this lies 100% with our useless board.
Wonder how many season tickets have been sold?
You have to laugh, after all.
Seriously; why we’d be surprised or wound up by any developments I dunno!
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional – it’s up to us innit!
BRIAN F – I would take Ange Postecoglu for a proper rebuild, but he’d crack it wi the Scotch meeja after 10mins.
HRVATSKI – I’d take Chris, Billy or Gene Wilder at this minute. Serious; Chris could be good.
These professions are by training, conservative, with a small c. Weird then they made such a capital C of a straightforward recruitment situation then innit?
Keep The Faith or don’t – a choice to all of us. HH
BLANTYRETIM
Happy Anniversary to you and your good lady 🎉🍾🎉🍾
They are more than a board. They are the owners. Nothing has changed. TGD will meet someone on a golf course and the appointment will be made.
Suck it up.
PS. Got my 2nd vaccine today had to go to mingavie. Then 2 hours to get home via great Western road then down Paisley road west. The amount of Hun establishments with loads of drinkers ignoring rules is shocking. So nothing change there either.
Nothing beats a good moan though 🤣😂
