Howe pantomime ends, what now

1566

Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”

With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them.  I’m not buying that either.  He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone.  If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here.  It is the former, surely?

Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May.  Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.  Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.

So where has this left us?  The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned.  You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park.  The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

    Now its the countries fault………….FFS.

We’ve needed a manager for 6 months, this lies 100% with our useless board.

Wonder how many season tickets have been sold?

    ——————-

    Which countries are those?

Clearly unpoliced aggression has made national news. Howe & Co have no interest in putting themselves in the firing line. They have made the right decision ……… for them.

  2. If Celtic were pursuing a single candidate, then hell mend every one of them.

Incompetent doesn’t begin to describe it.

Panic? I bloody hope they are.

All fans, even Turkeybhoy, needs to admit we are a shambles. This managerial search has turned to farce

  3. There is millions and millions of pounds at stake on next years title. Your biggest rivals who you’ve severely wounded this season, look as though they mean business and will bring in a very competent man to turn things around and restructure the club. So how do they go about dissuading him to take up this appointment, money won’t do it, so, what else? por cierto

What would it take for P67 to write a critical piece on this Board one has to wonder.

Anyhoo, they’ve fecked it again, as they generally do.

The appointment of Howe would not have restored trust in the Board (that’s irredeemably broken despite the best efforts of their pets and plants on here), but it would have been a powerful unifying force for the fans.

Instead we’ll have some poor sap playing the last minute stand-in role of Ronny Deila and a very angry and disconnected fan base.

What a mess for the ages.

You have to conclude that these suits are just not up to it. Time for a clear out.

Maybe PL’s house getting torched convinced Howe & his family to say FUCK THAT!!!!!

    ———-

You’re correct – that and George Square MUST have entered the heads of EH, his backroom team & their families. Why would anyone come up to Scotland to earn a living when they don’t have to?

Could that mean that our next manager will be someone with nothing to lose?

So you have an inside line to Howe?

Maybe you could have shared your incredible insight before today?

  7. “Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.”

Incorrect, it was a mistake. Another one. A mistake which has been pointed out on these pages every single day.

    Believe what you like.

    There are none so blind…….

If you have even a clue about who it is and can’t give us a clue – then who are you writing this fan blog for sir ?

Course, mibby that’s not a sure thing at this stage. Number 2 has just increased his negotiating hand quite dramatically I reckon.

Hope for the best is what I’m doing.

HJ – Wider been out of work for weeks why not get him in weeks ago.

    ———————–

Don’t ask me! I expect EH was number one choice and he kept us on the hook. If his team was not going to move to Glasgow, I think he should have known this weeks ago but only my thoughts with no inside information.

I am disappointed but we must move on.

Another crystal ball expert. What are the lottery numbers this weekend?

  11. but but !! turkeybhoy told us it’s eddie Howe , repeatedly 😂😂😂, ! however it is , will be at best second choice, probably tenth , absolute shambles as usual

  12. I’ve emerged from two days of an intense work related situation to this article. Haven’t seen any news. Howe not coming then? Plan b arriving early next week.

And lockdown? Really have missed something there. And the DUP were going loco last nightgown?

    Going to read the news.

Hope Howe goes on to have a successful time at Crystal Hove Bromwhich Geordie United City FC or wherever he goes

  13. TURKEYBHOY was right! It was Eddie Howe, but now, for various reasons, he doesn’t want to come, por cierto.

  14. Your loss Howe. All the best in bubble land.

What are Johnny Hayes’ management plans?

Wullie McStay was good at commentating this season – he may be decent.

    Is Kennedy near the showers?

    headscratchingcsc

  15. Is it Celtic couldn’t get his backroom team, strange if we waited so long for Bournemouth to get papped out of play offs or as some saying they didn’t fancy it and have strung us along. Either way as I said before need to get a good, well placed coach/manager in pronto

  16. Hopefully no season books sold toll Desmond goes…no chance of qualifying for CL. Or even Europa cup …no chance of winning league so might as well get something positive out of the situation

  17. I don’t know for sure but I cannot help but think recent goings on in Glasgow will have had an impact on the suggested back room team coming to Glasgow. These guys have no affiliation to Glasgow, would you want to put your family and kids into this environment? Lets not kid ourselves they will all have seen the news.

Also question to P67 and you must have known this – did the board purposely issue the ST renewal statement on Wednesday knowing that this news was coming? That is extremely poor form. If the “new guy” is not from the EPL circus put us out of our misery and name him, you cant do any worse than the crap we have had to put up with over the past 3 months. What’s the big secret or do you need Peters permission?

  18. Uncle Jimmy – I tend to agree. We shouldn’t be gambling in any case. Make the offer, give a reasonable length of time for candidate to accept or not. If not, move on and repeat.

Howe should have been given an earlier deadline.

  19. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Hhmm – that’s disappointing.

Nothing inherently inept about not getting your preferred candidate of course …

… but the length of time his rejection has taken reflects very badly on our board’s approach.

I don’t know the facts so will temper my criticism slightly.

But … (reverts to a favourite mantra)

    “It’s all about the outcome”

Neil left more than 3 months ago.

Our pre-season training camp starts in 38 days ….

    ….. and we don’t have a manager.

    🤔

  20. There are a number of good candidates who’d have jumped at the chance of being the Celtic manager. Yet we hang around on a guy who has been out of a job for a year. This board are incompetent beyond belief. Get them TF.

Paul’s just guessing like the rest of us, he’s always vague to cover his back.

  22. Was happy to see the end of the season, but seems the club are determined to continue the comedy show into the new season.

As we have all seen this season the board’s lack of panic or react does not mean they are in control more a reflection of their arrogance.

Dont fancy paying top dollar to watch a second rate manager manage a second rate team on a third rate stream.

  23. So after months of negotiations between Hiwe and Celtic.

He has now just discovered that the guys that he wanted as backroom staff, don’t want to come. Could he not have sounded them out months ago.

Chris Wilder. Your having a laugh.

Better with Kennedy. Wait a minute I’ve taken that too far.

They are more than a board. They are the owners. Nothing has changed. TGD will meet someone on a golf course and the appointment will be made.

which golf club…….i could get mysel up there wearin’ a clown suit, do a shite on the 18th and maybe impress and get the job and feck it up for less.

    The cheapness could attract them.

  25. By the time the backroom staff, which were wanted by EH and could then commit to coming, various demonstrations and unprecedented attacks had occurred. Who in their right mind would bring their young families to live in an environment like that, who?? por cierto.

We live and operate in Glasgow. Those scenes were shocking but not unprecedented. I cannot repeat enough times that if we left this to chance – and it looks like we did, as shocking as that seems – then we got what we deserved and every bit of criticism and mockery that comes our way.

  28. I think everything was going fine until those events occurred, JAMES, por cierto.
