Huge decision ahead for Neil Lennon

833

When they dispensed with Unai Emeri last weekend, Spartak Moscow brought to an end an experiment to bring sophistication to their team.  New caretaker manager, Valeriy Karpin, was manager immediately before Emeri, was also the man who appointed Emeri and stood over him as general manager of the club since moving from the dugout in the summer.

Karpin relies more on his strong, authoritative, personality than tactical innovation, which is likely to mean we face a more disciplined team in Glasgow next week that we faced in Moscow – there will be no brothel at the back.

My main concern is that the Kilmarnock/St Johnstone/Inverness tactics of defending solidly and taking their chances when going forward is perfectly suited for Karpin’s Spartak.  Against Benfica and Barcelona at home, Neil Lennon played it tight and incredibly tight respectively, which proved to be excellent decisions.  He has a huge call to make against Spartak, playing an adventurous game could leave us exposed.

This result is not to be taken for granted.

CQN Annual – perfect Christmas present

It was some comfort to see Celtic back on form last night, especially down the flanks, which were crucial in Moscow and could prove to be so again next week.  Hopefully the knocks and strains which have hampered the squad in recent weeks are beginning to fade ahead of our Christmas Cup Final.

Of course, I remember it now, it was the share I was thinking.

In total accord with the rest of your post. It still bothers me that once the decision was made for newco to leapfrog such clubs, noone wanted to know.

Thanks for the quick and detailed response.

  6. The Honest Cover-up on

    Mort,

Exactly. The New club were fast-tracked into SFL rather than go through the process of applying to regional leagues like Gretna new club had to do after their liquidation. Very important to point this out to Sevconaians who bleat about their “relegation”.

It’s not being pedantic or vindictive. It’s just being accurate and honest.

  7. Whenever Celtic lose, most on here say we were terrible. Whenever Celtic win, most on here say we were good. If we win by a few goals, especially away, then the predominant CQN view is that we were great. For me, a big, big factor in assessing our performance is on chances created. Last night was NOT a great performance and our defeats have not been terrible performances. Some balance is required but I don`t anticipate its arrival.

PS I have every confidence in us reaching the last 16. My guess is a draw for us and a defeat for Benfica.

In addition to the obvious qualities of pace and skill that Danny brought to football, there was the priceless asset of his approach to the game. He encountered all kinds of problems through injury and difficulties with his health, but nothing could prevent him from being prodigious on the field.

“Anybody who saw him at his best had the unmistakeable impression of watching a great player, probably one who had no superior anywhere in the world.”

  11. BRTH

The name of the company, “ASICS”, is an acronym of the Latin phrase anima sana in corpore sano, which translates to “Healthy Soul in a Healthy Body”,[8] which derives from Juvenal and the aphorism mens sana in corpore sano or Thales’ saying Νοῦς ὑγιὴς ἐν σώματι ὑγιεῖ.. Since 2007 there has been a larger emphasis placed on this acronym, and its translation has been truncated for advertising purposes to “Sound Mind, Sound Body”.

A Rangers fan has been handed a football ban after he was part of a group who asked a sheriff if he was a ‘f***** b******’ on a train on its way to Dundee.

Jamie Rhodie and his group also sang religious abuse and made Celtic taunts.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard that the group, who were travelling from Glasgow to Rangers’ SPL match with Dundee United in September last year, approached Hamilton based sheriff Harry Small, who was travelling with his young son.

They screamed at him “are you a f****n b******” after noticing him sitting wearing a green fleece jumper.

Rhodie was given a one year football banning order, but only after the sheriff dealing with the case checked if it would apply to Rangers’ Division Three matches.

Fiscal depute Vicky Bell told the court that Rhodie was in a group of eight to 10 Rangers fans travelling on the 9.41am train to Dundee, which was filled with OAPs and children.

She said: “A witness, who is a serving sheriff in Scotland, boarded the train at Glasgow with his young son.

“Their reserved seats were occupied with Rangers fans, but they took other seats. As the train departed the accused and his group started to sing football songs together.

“About 20 minutes into the journey they started singing sectarian songs with the words ‘We’re up to our knees in f****n blood’.

“They continued ‘f*** the Pope and the IRA’, ‘f****n b*******’, ‘no surrender to the f****** IRA scum’ and ‘Tommy Burns is a f****** skeleton’.

“The sectarian singing thereafter continued all the way to Dundee, a journey of one hour and 20 minutes.

“Between Perth and Dundee the group were constantly on their feet singing, shouting and banging their fists repeatedly on the roof of the coach.

“As the train approached Dundee some of the currently unidentified members of the group approached the Sheriff, who was wearing a green fleece jumper, and said to him ‘are you a f***** b******?’

‘Mike Ashley is believed to be in negotiations with Rangers to secure the naming rights to Ibrox.

The proposed deal would see the 113-year-old stadium renamed the Sports Direct Arena to promote Ashley’s chain of sports retail shops and showcase branding opportunities for potential investors or partners.

The big question is – will Rangers supporters hit the roof (like we did) – or will they sit and take it?

Rangers have been looking at image rights deals since Charles Green took over the club in June.

We would have thought any deal to rename Ibrox would be met with hostility by supporters, even despite the club’s current financial state, given the historical aspect of the stadium.’

‘Germany legalised bestiality (zoophilia) in 1969, except when the animal suffered “significant harm”.

But animal rights groups have campaigned for a change in the law and Hans-Michael Goldmann, the head of the parliamentary committee investigating the new amendment, told the Tageszeitung newspaper that the new legislation was intended to clarify the current legal position.

“With this explicit ban, it will be easier to impose penalties and to improve animal protection.”

A fine of up to 25,000 euros (£20,000) is proposed if someone forces an animal to commit “actions alien to the species”.

But Michael Kiok, the chairman of the pressure group Zoophile Engagement for Tolerance and Information (Zeta), said he was going to take legal action to fight the proposed changes.

“It is unthinkable that any sexual act with an animal is punished without proof that the animal has come to any harm,” he said, adding that animals are capable of showing what they do, or do not, want to do.

“We see animals as partners and not as a means of gratification. We don’t force them to do anything. Animals are much easier to understand than women,” Mr Kiok claimed.’
