Huge decision ahead for Neil Lennon

833

When they dispensed with Unai Emeri last weekend, Spartak Moscow brought to an end an experiment to bring sophistication to their team.  New caretaker manager, Valeriy Karpin, was manager immediately before Emeri, was also the man who appointed Emeri and stood over him as general manager of the club since moving from the dugout in the summer.

Karpin relies more on his strong, authoritative, personality than tactical innovation, which is likely to mean we face a more disciplined team in Glasgow next week that we faced in Moscow – there will be no brothel at the back.

My main concern is that the Kilmarnock/St Johnstone/Inverness tactics of defending solidly and taking their chances when going forward is perfectly suited for Karpin’s Spartak.  Against Benfica and Barcelona at home, Neil Lennon played it tight and incredibly tight respectively, which proved to be excellent decisions.  He has a huge call to make against Spartak, playing an adventurous game could leave us exposed.

This result is not to be taken for granted.

CQN Annual – perfect Christmas present

It was some comfort to see Celtic back on form last night, especially down the flanks, which were crucial in Moscow and could prove to be so again next week.  Hopefully the knocks and strains which have hampered the squad in recent weeks are beginning to fade ahead of our Christmas Cup Final.

  1. Are the current Celtic team one that revels in the big occasion? methinks both away victories against Aberdeen and last night against Hearts with the hype, packed stadium and the TV cameras present, also the form shown in Europe with the exception of the blip against Benfica, is evidence that Neil’s Bhoys revel in the big occasion.

Celtic went into the recent game against Barca with the shock news that Brown, Forrest and Hooper were out injured and overcame such a massive setback in unbelievable style. Not only winning but also securing European football into New Year. This will be a huge cushion going into the Spartak match another massive occasion for the Hoops and the fans. There is no doubt that Neil and the team will be high on adrenalin come next Wednesday night.

Its more likely he left a space to enable him seeing the ball struck.

A few keepers feel that if you don’t see ball being struck you already at a disadvantage.

  6. Re. Fans.

Spartak fans caused riots at the stadium in Lisbon. Few tens Spartak fans were arrested. Today, court in Lisbon sentenced 30 Spartak fans for 1 600 euros fine each and two years ban from all stadiums in Portugal. I wonder if they are going to sing in Glasgow ” Wake up our country, our family”?

It’s funny the SPL league has to be reconstructed/ binned even though the general concencus amongst the fans is that this is the most exciting season for years.

    No banned

    They don’t qualify :o)

Beat me to that bud! The Sevco can’t play in Europe for 3 years because they are a new club who do not meet the criteria. They have no financial history. Or any other kind of history for that matter. :-)))

    Rascar..,

    Good enough for me,

Of course a Celtic supporter is allowed an opinion on what Celtic supporters sing, but IMO should not be using that opinion to justify or support censorship, n that’s what I’m reading.

    Canamalar,

Not what I said, I said that the fans should sing Irish folk tunes not political ones, they dont sing Scottish ones so why Irish only, especially when Scotland pushes for independance?

All the rebel tunes at games are 90% DRUNKEN GIRUY’s! Nothing political behind the motivation.

At no time did I mention cencorships!

  11. NatKnow - "We welcome the paper-chase..." on

Many folk songs are political. Scottish or Irish.

    Evening Bhoys ,

Just in from the graft and read back on todays events on CQN’

Particularly enjoyed ASonOfDan 14:25 informing us of the zombies on

train verbally abusing a man whom was accompanied by his young son.

The “reasoning” behind these sevconians barrage (the man was

accused of being a “F*****n B*****d) was that he had the” temerity” to

wear a green fleece jumper !! Unfortunately for the said zombies the

chap whos religion and parentage was being questioned was a serving

Sheriff :0). One of the offenders has received a one year ban from

attending all scottish football grounds -although hardly a punishment

if your team is Sevco !!!

Just made me ponder about all the huns that I have encountered over

the years , both in the work place and social circles . I cannot seem to

recall any of them wearing an item of clothing in the colour green !!

This is their neanderthal mindset which sets us worlds apart

    from them.
