Huge game amid many distractions

328

Brendan Rodgers’ comments about Moussa Dembele, “It’s something you have to deal with”, suggests it is likely we will be without him tonight, meaning we go into one of the biggest games of the season without (currently) our best striker.

As it stands right now, it is likely, but not certain, that Moussa will leave this week.  For a start, those delicate muscles would need to pass a fitness test.  One week ago, Celtic expected the player to remain at the club until January, when they believed his value would be no less than it was then.  That possibility remains, and it should be noted, Moussa has behaved professionally.

The situation is far from ideal.  Only yesterday, I wrote about the need to concentrate on the important job to be done tonight.  Under any reasonable circumstances, we should see Suduva out of the competition comfortably, but this is football and we both know anything can happen if one team is even 10% off peak form.

The Europa League is a poor relation to the Champions League but it remains hugely important, not least of all in attracting one or two players, who will want European as well as domestic exposure. I don’t know how motivated the squad are, but they should be at peak preparedness; tonight is significantly the most important game of the week.

One positive is that Leigh Griffiths was made for days like these.  He has the experience and aptitude to lead the line.

Let’s get this job done.

I am surprised at the negativity by some on CQN about the possible signing of Mulumbu on a free transfer last season he was one of Killies best players bossing the midfield. Now if we get hm in on a free in my opinion he will be a good signing he will strengthen or midfield and protect our defence as well with his experience he can help coach our youngsters. One of the best players I have seen in a Celtic Jersey cost us next to nothing his name Lubo Moravcic so lets give Mulumbu a chance. H.H.

  2. BBC live score headlines “Ufi draw level against ten man rangers.” They scored in the 32nd minute, More-or-less was sent off in the 38th minute.

I’m not. Pretty consistent. I’m thinking Paul67 / Peter Lawell stole their libido….

He’s 20 years old, he’s had 38 career appearances (19 before he joined, 19 since), before writing him off maybe we should let him go out on loan for a season or two, then see how he develops

  6. Had a feeling the Ruskies might buy the ref. By all accounts it was harsh but Morelos is undoubtedly a clown.

  7. Could whoever it was remind me of bars in Villamoura to catch the Celtic game on Sunday? Thanks. HH

  8. I am well aware things are not of the brilliant nature just now. My problem though is that most of the remarks are pure speculation. After all , does any one on here have the ear of Brendan or Peter Lawell, honestly.

So what is the point of I think this and I think that, when all you’re doing is feeding the mSM and the other anti Celtic clowns.

So until the transfer window “slams shut” I will wait and see.

Regards Moussa, I like the guy very much but when you check out his injury record, we are well rid providing we find a suitable replacement, that is the $50000 question.

4 – 0 to the good guys tonight.

Both yellows merited ( and even the EBT BBC agrees).

Youssouf Mulumbu to sign for Celtic on two-year deal.

Celtic will land former West Brom star Youssouf Mulumbu on a two-year deal – and the signings won’t stop there.

The Scottish champions beat off competition from Swansea and Bordeaux as well as a number of other clubs to capture the former Premier League midfielder.

Mulumbu starred for Kilmarnock last season after joining the Rugby Park side in November as a free agent.

He even scored against Celtic in February as Killie stunned Brendan Rodgers’ men at Rugby Park.

Mulumbu, 31, will be Rodgers’ fifth signing of the summer if he passes a medical following the £9m deal for Odsonne Edouard, Daniel Arzani on loan, Scott Bain from Dundee and the return of Emilio Izaguirre.

And it’s understood more is to come.

Agree with a lot of what you say , Brendan has nt strengthened the defence since he came in and it was glaringly obvious that we have had a long term problem in this area since Ronnie left. For me our problems go back to last season , we were a pale shadow of the team we were under Brendans first season but we won a double treble and think that papered over a few cracks with the hierarchy and a lot of fans . Agree about the Boyata situation , by not signing a new deal it was obvious he wanted to leave , he is the best CH on our books so it should have been the number one priority to replace him . Whether Brendan tried and was let down by PL and chums I dont know . I fear we have now ” broke” Jack Hendry as he was meant to be one for the future but lately he looks as if its all too much for him. Think we need to focus get a positive result in next 2 games then PL and his chums need to have a serious sit down with Brendan and sort this clusterf@@K . We should never be in such an amateurish position we find ourselves in again . My gut feeling tells me PL has no real ambitions for Celtic on the playing field other than being top dogs at home and that Brendan will be gone at the end of the season . Yes we will get our hotel and Museum and will be spoon fed all the PR that goes with it but maybe this is as good as it gets

  13. Good the Huns are having to play a full half with 10 men. Lets do the business tonight , turn them over on Sunday and then punt Lawwell on Monday.

This has been a disgraceful few months by those who run our club. They have been determined to close the gap on The Rangers ever since the treble was done. It seems to me that they think there’s more money in the long term in an SPFL which we don’t win comfortably. For them, ten in a row must be prevented at all costs.

And they are asking us to accept our only new signings are Pau Chautelle, Elf E. Balance and sod it I can’t contrive one for “new lights”.

I foresee many more Saturdays and Sundays on the golf course for myself.

PL and anyone else responsible must go.

  16. Has the Mulombo thing got beyond the stage of a rumour.

From what I saw of him last year, he would be a decent signing.

We can pick holes in the circumstance and timing of the signing all day. If he joins the squad he will be worth points for us.
