Hugely important League Cup tie

873

We have had games which were hugely important to the club, and to our new manager, some which were ‘must win’ games, which were ultimately lost, but tomorrow’s League Cup tie against Hearts is a must win game for different reasons.

A year ago we lost in this competition to one of the worst teams to win at Celtic Park in the last half century, possibly longer, but thus Hearts side are a Premiership team in all but name and come with the weight of their history behind them to fell Scottish football’s last superpower.

I’ve seen Hearts win at Celtic Park before, there is one particular painful memory as they taunted us while drawing, but Ronny and his new recruits should know, this game ranks above all league matches in order of importance.

I’m sure Ronny and Jonny would both love this tournament to be the start of their dynasty.

Deniabhoy- it wasn’t impossible in 1942, when we were fighting a war of survival, the outcome of which was very much in the balance.

I am now blissfully semi-retired after 35 years in the ole frontline in Scotland[ apart from 6 months in the west Midlands].

The NHS still does a lot of things well but the World has changed so much in the past seventy odd years that it is struggling to keep up.

Jamegang- I’m up for that. It may take more than one pint. Are you goin’ to BMCUWP’s Octoberfest?

Don’t be silly the NHS is safe with the union,I mean they have to get prepared for all the young working class men coming back from Syria missing limbs and mentally scarred.

Yet again the labour party agreeing to take us into a war in the middle east,an absolute disgrace. There is not a shred of integrity left in that whole organisation. But never mind Ernie will spend the next few days asking everyone to predict when the NHS will implode if you can’t give him an exact date and time he will believe he has won the argument and that after all is what really matters.

“You get what you frigin well voted for and hell mend you all that voted NO. Whatever comes your way is deserved. 100% deserved. However badly affected you are I will not shed a tear for you. I will however sympathise with every single person who voted YES who is affected by the Tsunami of Red Coat, Tory Economic love bombs that will see more and more of our countries innocent people forced into poverty. I hold each and every No voter responsible to a personal level for what is coming. Hope you can sleep at night.”

Charming, so much for democracy, unity and moving forward.

What about the 25% of people in Glasgow eligible to vote who did not, do they also fall into your hatred and vindictiveness.

Hopefully our elected representatives will represent all and not be so petty minded.

It was posted earlier that children read this blog, they also participate.

  9. As a bit of a leftie it pains me to say I’m beginning to believe the NHS days are numbered. Huge budget deficits look impossible to plug without a major tax restructuring. I don’t think that will happen so sooner or later, free at the point of delivery will slowly be adjusted until ultimately you have a privately run health system.

  11. All joking/choking aside, we can’t financially cope with the long term conditions which – medically – we’re now much better at coping with.

Lungs. We cannae fix them. But we can slow the decline and alleviate the symptoms. Not enough to keep folk working and paying taxes. But enough to keep you alive for longer at home with expensive meds that often don’t get used!

We’re breaking ourselves more and more expensively than we can fix.

That’s got nowt to do with any referendum.

  12. In recent seasons I have to admit to not being particularly bothered by the League Cup.

Losing to Morton last year hardly raised my blood pressure by a point or two.

For some reason that is most definitely NOT the case this season and defeat tonight would be very difficult to take.

In fact i dont even want to contemplate that.

Ronny, get that team motivated, solid and ATTACKING. We are at home playing a team from a lower league. WIN!

Not too much to ask is it??

I’m surprised at that question. Have you let your membership lapse?

  18. John Collins last trophy win was the 2007 League Cup, Scott Brown lifted the cup that day.

Celtic went out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage to John Hughes Falkirk who won on penalties at Celtic Park after a 1-1 draw.

Celtic had taken the lead in extra time through Zurawski with Falkirk equalising a minute later with a goal from a young Anthony Stokes.

    ======================================================

From what I saw during the referendum a huge amount of the NO posters on display were Labour says NO.

I would guess that a fairly hefty lump of the NO (and yes) vote are Labour supporters, I think Labours demise is being exaggerated by pissed off yes voters.

That it needs leadership and direction is a given. Yesterdays speach by Milliband was an excellent start.

  22. ernie lynch – Geez.

Now I understand why they kept Lenin on public display for so long – to make sure he didn’t reanimate as a zombie. (thumbsup)

  23. The membership of the Communist Party has suffered greatly due to cut backs in the number of Art Advisors that Queen Betty is allowed to employ these days.

The price of drink in Oxbridge colleges also now means there are fewer alcoholics graduating and joining MI5 and KGB with their diplomas.

Also Stalin made it quite unfashionable to be a hard line Stalinist.

I think we might need a Communist Boy Band from West Cork, managed by Louis Walsh, to revive their strength.

  24. bawsman – My wife is a furrinir, God bless her, and she loves Ed Miliband.

“Look! He’s on TV again!”, she’ll say, her soft brown eyes shining with excitement.

    “Who?”, says I.

    “Mr. Bean!” (thumbsup)

  25. We know that 45% voted Yes.

A proportion of that number will be either SNP members or supporters and will clealry continue to support the party. Some will be members of other parties and most will likely return to supporting them.

But some will have been anti Tory voters who felt that independence was the best way of getting rid of them. What are they likely to do come a general election? Will they back the SNP? In recent years the SNP receives a far lower share of the vote in Westminster elections – 20% in 2010. The question being asked is about the government of the UK and a lot of voters see the SNP as irrelevant in that situation.

I agree the demise of New Labour in Scotland has been exaggerated on the emotion of last week’s result.

But I do think they will have lost some of their traditional voters.I reckon many have been disillusioned with New Labour for some time and have just been waiting on an excuse.

Sadly, New Labour does not represent the majority of people throughout the UK who are looking for representation to better their lot.
